Prompt 8
While on an adventure through the 'picturebooks' hashtag, i was surprised to stumble upon Harper Collins tumblr. I've referenced this publisher more times than i can count, and being a tumblr veteran.. okay i have four, i cannot be stopped, I honestly had no idea that publishers had tumblers!
http://harpercollins.tumblr.com/ An exciting walk through literature history, Harper Collins regularly posts nostalgic quotes, news, and images of classic Authors, like snippets through time.
New texts are also recommended, I was however so excited i had to reblog an image taken of an author i have aforementioned! (J.R.R Tolkien) with C.S Lewis. The things you find through hashtagging! Thankyou for an enjoyable blogging experience! What wonderful connections we can make :)

Classroom displays - Literacy The last time i made a classroom display was on my last placement, The display was photographs of ‘then and now’ with varying contexts of the topic, from a unripe, to ripe, to rotten banana, to photographs of the local town black and white from 100 years ago, to 50 years ago, to now, ect. These were strung up one on top of the other to create a literal vision of how things change.I have made two posters, well one is a poster and the other is a sort of more fun classroom display to assist reading. The video above should assist explanation of these :). (also uploaded as a reply*)

Prompt 1 When i was in Year 5, my teacher read to us ‘Lord of the Rings’. It quickly became one of my favourite texts and remains so today, inspiring me to go on to read many J.R.R Tolkien texts. This fantasy novel sparked my imagination, and shortly after i wrote my own fantasy piece that became a finalist in the Nestle ‘write around Australia’ competition (2001) in which 20 finalists out of 1000 schools in Victoria met at a young writers convention and were awarded Nestle prizes. In the grand final i was disqualified, as my bless her thought she was helping the night before submission by spell checking when i’d gone to bed, which put me over the very strict work count. This didn’t stop my passion for literacy, reading, writing and i continued on to high school with a passion for literacy that was unlocked by that particular teacher, who inspired me to want to become a teacher myself one day. If i had the opportunity to thank her i would because she made a difference in my life in the way i hope to for my students when i’m teaching my own class. During my last practicum i experienced the pure joy that is having small children (Grade 4) read to you, it is a wonderful experience for them learning, and as a teacher to begin to see improvements in their fluency, accuracy, comprehension and expansion of vocabulary. I have a daughter, she is 16 months old and already loves books, I read with her often. After she got over the phase of ‘eating’ at her cardboard books, she often passes me one, sits in my lap and points at the pictures while babbling. One day in the future i look forward to sharing with her my favourite literary adventures. (Pictured is my daughter Melody enjoying a book)
