Tomorrow is Another Day
[Chapter 6]
Summary: Wei Wuxian is bitten by a werewolf and battles with his new identity followed by his fears. Lan Wangji and the rest of his friends come to his aid.
———————————————————————————
The wind rustled through the trees, breaking off leaves that followed the wind. The setting sun, just beyond the horizon, painted the library pavilion a soft gold, reflecting off the cultivators who sat together at a single desk.
Wei Wuxian slumped over with a heaving sigh, the book crinkling beneath his upper torso. Lan Wangji glanced toward his lover with a questioning gaze.
“At this rate, we’ll never find any information.” Wei Wixian whined, turning his head to look toward Lan Wangji.
“Patience, Wei Ying. We will find something.”
“But what if we don't? What if I'm stuck with this-this curse?” A frown painted Wei Wuxian’s face.
Lan Wangji sighed softly before gently moving Wei Wuxian’s bangs behind his ear to get a better look at those piercing silver eyes that contrasted with his own. His heart always raced when they shared long instances of contact, whether it was physical or just eye contact.
“Will love Wei Ying regardless.” He answered.
Wei Wuxian’s face turned bright red, and he quickly sat up before gripping his chest dramatically.
“Aiyah, Lan Zhan! You must warn me before saying such sweet things, my heart won't be able to take it.” Wei Wuxian whined.
Lan Wangji gave a huff of laughter and shook his head slightly at Wei Wuxian’s antics.
The last half a month has been busy. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji spent most of their time in the library searching through books and scrolls, but so far have come up with nothing, and if they were trading kisses and small touches, that was between them. Wen Qing has been in the healer's pavilion, most likely sharing insights into her medical theories and a way to repay the Lans' kindness for their help.
Lan Xichen has been overloaded with duties, from what Wei Wuxian knew from Lan Wangji, the Jin were being difficult on trade agreements due to their heir’s upcoming wedding to Jiang Yanli. Though Lan Wangji always seems to add that Lan Xichen seems to brighten every time he gains a letter from Nie Mingjue, the Nie clan leader.
Lan Qiren focuses on classes, and just this morning, he confirmed the completion of the room where Wei Wuxian will undergo his transformation, which is scheduled to happen in just a few more days.
From what Wei Wuxian gathered, only a select few were to stay and watch. It consisted of Lan Xichen, Wen Qing, Lan Qiren, and Lan Wangji. After Wen Qing had explained Wei Wuxian’s first transformation, they seemed to think she was helpful if anything were to go wrong.
Their original plan was to see if there was a way to awaken Wei Wuxian’s subconscious during the wolf’s rampage. That was where Lan Wangji or Wen Qing came in; those two had a better bond with Wei Wuxian than the others.
As for the two lovebirds, Lan Wangji has yet to tell his uncle and brother about his new relationship with Wei Wuxian, though they have nearly been caught many times. Wei Wuxian just jokes and says it will be easier to tell them rather than allow them to walk in on them making out. Lan Wangji only sighs.
The days passed, and soon the dreaded day had arrived. The sun was slowly setting. Two people could be seen sitting among a field of bunnies.
Lan Wangji had his arm wrapped around Wei Wuxian’s waist as Wei Wuxian leaned against his lover, his head placed on Lan Wangji’s shoulder. He heaved a sigh that caught Lan Wangji’s attention.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
“Yeah, just… nervous. I just hope that whatever you guys have in mind will work.” Wei Wuxian muttered, “If I ended up hurting you or the others, I’ll never forgive myself.”
“If that happens, it will be because you were not yourself.” Lan Wangji turned his gaze toward his lover, “Do not blame yourself.”
Wei Wuxian could only nod and cuddle closer into Lan Wangji, his arms wrapping around his chest as he breathed in that sandalwood scent. Even now, that smell eased Wei Wuxian’s fears.
When it was time, Lan Xichen, accompanied by Lan Qiren and Wen Qing, appeared in the field to fetch the two. With that, they headed toward a secluded spot in the hills of Cloud Recesses. A large building stood out against the other buildings in Cloud Recesses.
The group entered, revealing a large room with beams holding up the roof. In reality, it was almost identical to the Mingshi, a place where they would usually summon spirits, but this was mildly different. It was wider, had more space, and instead of an array littering the floor, it was chains.
Wei Wuxian flinched at that; even now, his fear was barely subsiding. Lan Wangji looked over toward him with a reassuring gaze and gently laced their fingers together. Wei Wuxian glanced over and gave a smile.
“Now,” Lan Qiren began, startling the two, “Let us get ready. Wei Wuxian, in the middle, that way we will be able to get ready.”
Wei Wuxian nodded and unlaced his fingers from his lover, making his way over to the middle. When Lan Qiren stared, Wei Wuxian carefully got on his knees.
Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji, and Wen Qing began to apply the chains around Wei Wuxian’s body, adding shackles to his wrists and ankles like before.
“Is the sword necessary?” Wei Wuxian asked, glancing toward the side.
“It's more of a precaution, no need to worry, Wei-Gongzi. It is unlikely that we would have to use them.” Lan Xichen smiled.
“Yeah, alright.”
The sun continued to fall, bringing about nightfall. Casual banter made its way through the group. It mainly was Wei Wuxian challenging Lan Qiren on specific topics of cultivation and talismans. Lan Wangji stood near Wei Wuxian, occasionally chatting with his lover. Wen Qing and Lan Xichen didn't say much, just stayed to the side, butting in when they had something to say.
The full moon continued to move up into the sky, and at its peak. The light that reflected from the moon beamed into the open windows of the building, casting a soft glow on the group.
With a grunt of pain, Wei Wuxian lowered his upper torso closer to the ground. Lan Wangji frowned towards his lover before moving away and standing near his brother.
The chains rattled harshly as Wei Wuxian spun his body around, the sound of bones creaking mixing with the reverberation that echoed off the walls. Lan Wangji could only watch with a frown; he hated seeing Wei Wuxian in pain.
During the war, Lan Wangji chased after Wei Wuxian, trying to get him to see reason but it only served to piss off Wei Wuxian even further. So, he’s taken great care not to bring it up this past month.
After the longest time, the wolf lifted its head and gazed toward the group in front of it. It only seemed to stare.
“Wei Wuxian.” Wen Qing spoke before moving forward slowly.
She was quickly moved back as the wolf snapped its jaw toward her with a sickening growl. The chains were pulling and rattling against the wall. When Wen Qing moved, it set him off, and he threw his body around, trying to break the chains that bound him.
“It seems to hold him. Shall we get on with it?” Lan Qiren spoke, a hand pressed against his lower back while the other stroked his goatee.
“Mn, I believe we shall. Wen-guniang, perhaps you should try first?” Lan Xichen smiled.
Wen Qing only sighed and bowed her head. She made her way over toward the big black mass, far enough away for it not to reach her. The wolf growled violently and snapped his body forward.
“Wei Wuxian!” Wen Qing called, “Come on.”
She continued, speaking to him about specific memories, but they were limited to days on the burial mounds, which were filled with mostly unhappy memories. So in the end, she stepped back.
“Lan-er-gongzi, your turn.” She turned toward Lan Wangji, who nodded.
Lan Wangji sighed before stepping forward. He knelt, which caused the wolf to follow. The growling seemed to lessen, but Wei Wuxian’s teeth were still bared.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji called gently. “I am here.”
Wei Wuxian growled harder and scraped his claws against the building's floor, his body shot forward as he snapped his jaws.
Lan Wangji moved a bit closer and held eye contact with Wei Wuxian; The wolf began to settle ever so slightly, and the growl wavered.
“Wei Ying, It is okay. You are alright.” Lan Wangji murmured before moving closer.
“Wangji-” Lan Qiren spoke before being cut off by Lan Xichen’s head shake.
“Trust him, Shufu. Wangji wouldn't do anything that he deemed unnecessary.” Lan Xichen whispered.
Lan Qiren sighed and nodded his head carefully before taking in the scene before him. Lan Wangji, ever so carefully, continued to make his way toward Wei Wuxian, scraping his knees against the floor in unlan-like behavior.
Wei Wuxian huffed as he watched Lan Wangji move closer. The wolf growled lowly, bringing his body toward the ground.
“Wei Ying, I am here. Wake up.” Lan Wangji murmured.
The Lan was much closer now, and if anything were to set Wei Wuxian off, he’d be harmed almost instantly, so with that fact, everyone only watched and held their breath.
Lan Wangji brought up his hand slowly, a way for Wei Wuxian to know. Over the past month, Wei Wuxian had told Lan Wangji how amazing he smelled, which always made Lan Wangji blush.
Wei Wuxian’s growl began to fade before he glanced toward the hand and its owner. His breathing labored as he moved forward slightly and sniffed the hand. The rush of sandalwood invaded Wei Wuxian’s nose, causing a small whimper to reverberate from the back of his throat.
Wei Wuxian looked up toward Lan Wangji before moving forward and rubbing up against the arm the hand was attached to. At that, everyone visibly sighed and exhaled harshly.
“Wei Ying?” Lan Wangji tilted his head slightly.
The wolf looked up and continued to move into Lan Wangji’s space, the chains restricting most of his movement. When it got caught, Wei Wuxian growled harshly and snapped his jaws toward the chain with a sickening clang that made everyone jump.
“Wei Ying, Wei Ying, it is okay. Calm down, we will free you, but you must stop.” Lan Wangji compromised.
Hearing his lover's voice, Wei Wuxian stopped and turned toward him. His ears pinned back as he lowered himself to the ground with a whine. Lan Wangji huffed and ran his fingers through the black fur. Wei Wuxian visibly became happier, his ears stood up, and his tail wagged against the harsh floor.
“Shall we, uhm-” Lan Xichen cleared his throat, “Shall we free him?”
Lan Qiren closed his eyes as he began to think, his hand still stroking his goatee, before nodding toward his nephew. Both Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen started to work on removing the chains from Wei Wuxian’s body.
“Wangji, stay with Wei-gongzi while Shufu, Wen-guniang, and I talk.” Lan Xichen spoke.
Lan Wangji nodded and watched as the three moved off to the side to have their conversation. A soft whine brought his attention back toward Wei Wuxian.
“Wei Ying.”
Wei Wuxian bounded over on all fours and wrapped his body around his lover. His tail continuously smacked against the ground in his happier state as his tongue fell to the side of his mouth. Lan Wangji indulged in his significant other's state and gently ran his fingers through Wei Wuxian’s fur.
The wolf lowered its head onto Lan Wangji’s lap and closed its eyes before giving a heaving sigh. When the three returned, it startled Wei Wuxian enough for him to growl, but Lan Wangji promptly shut it down.
“Wangji, you don't mind allowing Wei-gongzi to stay with you for the night, would you?” Lan Xichen chuckled.
“He can stay with me.” Lan Wangji replied.
Lan Xichen chuckled before bowing his head and leaving with his uncle trailing behind him with incoherent muttering. Wen Qing nodded toward the two before leaving for her guest quarters.
“Come, Wei Ying. It is late.” Lan Wangji says as he stands.
Wei Wuxian whines at the loss of contact before standing as well. The wolf was truly a sight to behold, much taller than Lan Wangji, who only reached the wolf’s chest.
Lan Wangji turned away and started walking out. Wei Wuxian huffed before following on all fours, his tail still wagging furiously.
The two reached the Jingshi, Lan Wangji’s private living quarters. Lan Wangji stepped up and opened the door before walking in with the wolf still trailing closely behind him.
Lan Wangji went about his routine as he would've at his typically scheduled bedtime. And before long, Lan Wangji climbed into bed and brought the covers over himself. Wei Wuxian’s body shook with anticipation, and he began to whine.
“Come, Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji said.
The Lan patted the empty area on the side of his bed. Wei Wuxian’s whining promptly stopped before the wolf climbed over Lan Wangji and lay down on the opposite side of the bed. Wei Wuxian huffed and placed his head on Lan Wangji’s chest and purred when his lover put his hand on the top of his head.
“Goodnight, Wei Ying.”
Lan Wangji sent a wave of spiritual energy, and the candles were snuffed out. The only source of light being the full moon.

Tomorrow is Another Day
[Chapter 5]
Summary: Wei Wuxian is bitten by a werewolf and battles with his new identity followed by his fears. Lan Wangji and the rest of his friends come to his aid.
———————————————————————————
“You have everything you need?” Wen Qing says, leaning against the cave entrance.
Wei Wuxian grabbed a couple of talismans and parchment; it was mostly to satiate his boredom while he stayed in Gusu, since the idea of breaking their rules didn't appeal to him the same way it did when he studied back when he was fifteen.
“I… believe so. Gods, I don't want to go.” Wei Wuxian pouted.
“Nothing you can do about it now.” Wen Wing shrugged before turning and leaving Wei Wuxian alone.
Wei Wuxian exhaled before making his way out of his cave. The sun was blinding, temporarily blinding him before he made out the scene before him. The Wen remnants stood in a group, turned toward Wei Wuxian.
“Come back safe, alright?” Granny proposed with a gentle smile.
Wei Wuxian smiled solemnly before a blur came barreling toward him, straight into his legs, hugging them tightly.
“Xian-gege! Get better soon!” A-Yuan chimed with a toothy smile.
Wei Wixian chuckled before lifting A-Yuan into a tight hug.
“I promise, I’ll come back all better!” He promised.
A-Yuan nodded thoughtfully before being set down and running toward Granny. The other Wen remnants wished Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing a safe journey to Gusu. Wen Ning promises to watch over the others and will alert them if needed. With that, Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing leave the burial mounds and head toward Gusu.
-
It’s been a relative day or two, they took well-needed rest in inns or camped out if necessary. Wei Wuxian came up with many excuses to stop, but Wen Qing made a point that if they didn't reach Gusu before the full moon, Wei Wuxian might harm others. So he relented and upon the horizon, the beautiful mountains of Cloud Recesses stood before them.
The duo stood near the gates.
“Do we really ha-”
“Yes, Wei Wuxian. We’ve been over this many times.” Wen Qing groaned.
Wen Qing steps forward up to the gates of Cloud Recesses. The two disciples guarding the gates stood in utter shock upon seeing the fearsome Yiling Patriarch and a Wen. Wei Wuxian stepped forward and crossed his arms over his chest with a huff and piercing gaze.
One of the disciples turned to the other and whispered an order before running off into the mountain. Most likely to retrieve their clan leader and grandmaster.
“Pl-Please wait he-here while my fr-friend fetches the cl-clan leader.” The disciples bowed respectively, clearly shaken by the two in front of him.
Wen Qing only nodded, her hands held in front of her against her stomach in a sophisticated manner. Wei Wuxian only huffed once more and looked around.
It wasn't long before three figures were shown walking towards the gate. One of whom was the clan leader, Lan Xichen. Another being the grandmaster, Lan Qiren, and the last being the disciple who had run off.
“Lan-zongzhu, Lan-xiansheng.” Wei Wuxian politely bowed toward the two alongside Wen Qing.
“Wei Wuxian! You have a lot of nerve showing up here!” Lan Qiren exclaimed, his face turning red with anger.
“Shufu, please. Allow me to handle this.” Lan Xichen mutters to his uncle, who only huffs in reply.
Lan Xichen, with a kind smile, steps forward toward the two. He bowed his head before bringing it back up to look toward the duo.
“Wei-gongzi, what brings you to Cloud Recesses?” Lan Xichen asks.
Wei Wuxian looked at Wen Qing, who stared back and shook her head minutely toward him. He then turned back toward the crowd and glanced between the two disciples.
“Zongzhu, I am in need of help, but it’s best that we speak in private as it is…” Wei Wuxian sighed, “delicate matter.”
“Delicate matter,” Lan Qiren scoffed.
“Mn, I’ll allow it. Do follow me, let us go to the Hanshi.” Lan Xichen smiled softly before gesturing with his hand and walking off.
Wei Wuxian sighed and followed with Wen Qing closely, trailing behind. Lan Qiren only scoffed and followed, his hand placed on his lower back while the other stayed pressed against his stomach.
When the group reached the Hanshi, Lan Xichen sat at the desk with Lan Qiren standing behind him. His smile never seemed to fade; that was a difference between the twin jades of Lan - one was stoic and cold, and the other was warm and friendly. Yet, Wei Wuxian only felt a connection to one.
“Do speak, if this matter is truly delicate. I wish to request my brother's presence here, if that's alright with you.” Lan Xichen entreated.
Wei Wuxian hesitated; both of them stood in front of the desk as they looked ahead at the clan leader. Wei Wuxian looked toward Wen Qing, who only sighed.
“I believe that is the best option.” Wen Qing spoke with the utmost formality.
Lan Xichen nodded and called for a disciple to summon his brother, the smile never leaving his face. The disciple nodded and went, and not even minutes later, the stoic and cold Hanguang-jun stepped into the Hanshi.
When his eyes fell upon Wei Wuxian, his brows furrowed ever so slightly. “Wei Ying.” He muttered.
“Hi, Lan Zhan..” Wei Wuxian murmured.
“Get on with it, Wei Wuxian.” Lan Qiren snapped, his eyes narrowing.
“Yeah, yeah okay.” Wei Wuxian sighed and continued. “A few months ago, I went off into the woods a bit away from the burial mounds to test theories on certain arrays and talismans. It was only supposed to attract lower-level resentment beings, but-”
Wen Qing sighed before looking down. Wei Wuxian hesitated, then continued just as quickly.
“But it attracted something else. A yaogui, and not just any old yaogui, it was an ancient creature. One that was looking to pass on his lineage to its next best bet, me.” Wei Wuxian struggled.
Wen Qing sighed and continued for him.
“Long story short, this yaogui had bitten him rather harshly on the arm, and over the few months that it’s healed, he has gained heightened senses, better hearing, smell, and other things. The big takeaway from this is that he has transformed twice into this creature, it looks like a wolf, but it isn't a typical wolf.”
The others appeared shocked as they listened on. This whole story sounded ridiculous, like a made-up tale to keep kids out of the woods. It almost reminded Wei Wuxian of the time he had heard parents using his name to deter naughty children from doing terrible things; it worked, so he didn't complain.
Wen Qing continued, “The first full moon, we didn't know anything was wrong until we ran into Wei Wuxian’s cave after a terrible scream. There, Wen Ning and I saw a giant wolf, but Wei Wuxian was nowhere to be found. The second, he was thankfully chained, and we witnessed the transformation ourselves.”
Lan Qiren only stroked his beard, closing his eyes. Lan Xichen looked down in disbelief; the smile had long since faded to match his racing mind. Lan Wangji stood there, his hand pressed against his lower back, the other hand gripping tightly onto his sword, his knuckles appearing white.
“If this is the case, why come to us?” Lan Xichen questioned.
“Gusu Lan is well known for their wide variety of knowledge, whether it’s forbidden or not. We were hoping that perhaps you could provide some insight into Wei Wuxian’s condition.” Wen Qing explained.
Lan Xichen nodded solemnly before turning toward his uncle.
“Shufu, I know how you feel about Wei-gongzi, but perhaps we could see if we have anything.” Lan Xichen asked.
Lan Qiren’s eyes opened slowly before he sighed and began to think.
“You are the clan leader, Xichen. It is not up to me on what you do, but I fear it is in your best interest to help Wei Wuxian.” Lan Qiren countered.
Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened before looking toward the Grandmaster. He couldn't believe his ears. The man who hated him was willing to provide help. Lan Xichen gave a smile before turning to Lan Wangji.
“Wangji, perhaps you can look in the forbidden section. Bring the books on curses up, and you and Wei-gongzi could look through them.” Lan Xichen smiled.
“Mn.” Lan Wangji bowed before leaving the Hanshi.
Wei Wuxian’s eyes narrowed for a moment as he watched Lan Wangji leave before turning to the others with a questioning gaze.
“Ah, Wei-gongzi, no need to worry. I unfortunately have clan leader duties to attend to at the moment, and Shufu has classes.” He looked toward Wen Qing, “Wen-guniang, perhaps you could help in the medical pavilion. If you are needed, I'm sure Wei Wuxian will find you.”
Wen Qing sighed and nodded. She knew precisely what Lan Xichen was doing, trying to get Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji alone, which would give them a chance to talk about their problems. At Wen Qing’s nod, Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened, and he sputtered before Wen Qing glared holes into Wei Wuxian, who slumped slightly and grumbled.
“Now, the likelihood of finding out about such a curse quickly is limited. And this month's full moon isn't until the last few days of this month, it is with a terrible conscience that I set up a room in a secluded spot in Cloud Recesses to get ready for your transformation, it will also give us a chance to see this curse up close.” Lan Xichen explained, his hands clasped together as he sat forward.
Wei Wuxian nodded solemnly, and Wen Qing followed quickly after.
“We thank you for your hospitality, Lan-zongzhu.” Wen Qing said.
“No need, Wen-guniang. Wei-gongzi, I'm sure Wangji is awaiting your arrival in the Library Pavilion; you should head there.” Lan Xichen smiled.
Wei Wuxian sighed and bid them goodbye with a formal bow and left the Hanshi toward the Library Pavilion.
Upon arrival, he looked through the open door to the library to see Lan Wangji at a desk, sitting properly as he sifted through an open book in front of him. The light reflected off his back through an open window just behind Lan Wangji; he truly looked like a divine being.
Wei Wuxian spent a good, long minute admiring the view of the peerless Hanguang-jun before sauntering in and taking a nearby desk. Lan Wangji glanced up for a mere second before looking back down. Wei Wuxian glanced toward Lan Wangji as he grabbed a nearby book from the towering pile.
They spent a good chunk of the hour sifting through the books, which mostly consisted of things on resentful beings, divine gods, or curses. Wei Wuxian hated the silence, especially when he is with Lan Wangji. He missed the good times when he would seek Lan Wangji out and irritate him just to get a reaction.
“Hey, Lan Zhan. You believe me, don't you?” Wei Wuxian asked, glancing up.
Wei Wuxian didn't expect a reply, but out of the three Lans, Lan Wangji didn't seem shocked. When Lan Wangji spoke, Wei Wuxian was surprised.
“I know Wei Ying would not lie about this, especially Wen-guniang.” Lan Wangji said, his tone docile.
“Aiyah, you sure have a lot of faith in me.” Wei Wuxian teased with a lift of his eyebrows.
Lan Wangji didn't say anything, turning a page in the book he was currently reading. Wei Wuxian fidgeted, unsure of how to continue. When they were younger, Wei Wuxian was less likely to get embarrassed, and he always knew what to say. However, even now, he isn't so sure.
“Haha, I uh… I'm in Gusu! Haha, after all the times I said no to you, I'm finally here.” Wei Wuxian joked. “But, you can't lock me away now since I'm a willing person!”
Lan Wangji looked up at that, his brows furrowed minutely, unseen by any other party than Wei Wuxian.
“Never wanted to lock Wei Ying away, only wanted to help.” Lan Wangji said softly.
Wei Wuxian's eyes widened, “Wait, really!?” Lan Wangji nodded, “All this time, I thought you hated me.”
“No, never hate, but concerned for Wei Ying’s health and mind.” Lan Wangji explained.
At this very moment, Wei Wuxian’s heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. All this time, all this miscommunication could have been fixed if Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian had talked like civilized people.
“Come,” Wei Wuxian’s racing thoughts were put on hold as Lan Wangji stood, “wish to show you something.”
Lan Wangji walked out of the Library with Wei Wuxian trailing behind him. The Lan disciples eyed the two cultivators before quickly walking off with their eyes downturned.
Before long, Wei Wuxian stood in the back hills of Cloud Recesses, and there was a small horde of rabbits ranging from white to black. It was an astonishing sight to see, but then it clicked.
“You, you kept them?” Wei Wuxian asked, turning his gaze toward Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji walked over to a black bunny and knelt, gently picking it up from its spot before standing up.
“Mn.” He answered.
Wei Wuxian was flabbergasted. The cold Lan-er-gongzi had kept the bunnies that Wei Wuxian had gifted him during his time in Cloud Recesses. His heart was racing, and so were his thoughts.
Wei Wuxian walked over to Lan Wangji and gently rubbed between the bunny's ears with a soft chuckle.
“Thought having pets was forbidden in Cloud Recesses.” Wei Wuxian smirked.
“Not pets, they live here, so they are wild.” Lan Wangji countered, which only made Wei Wuxian laugh.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji both look up from glancing down at the bunny. Their eyes connect, silver meeting gold. Being this close, Wei Wuxian was able to truly appreciate Lan Wangji's face, with its chiseled jaw, piercing eyes, the soft pink blush on the tips of his ears, and his beautiful pink lips, which were pressed into a straight line in line with Lan Wangji’s expression.
He missed him. Wei Wuxian missed Lan Wangji so much that he realized it just now, after not seeing him for the longest time. Wei Wuxian missed the tinted pink blush on the tip of Lan Wangji’s ear when he was embarrassed, his minute expressions from a shifting frown to furrowed brows. Wei Wuxian missed Lan Wangji saying “shameless” or “ridiculous”. Overall, he missed everything about Lan Wangji, and now that he has learned the truth, it breaks something inside of him, perhaps in a good way.
They stared at each other for the longest time, Wei Wuxian drinking in every detail of Lan Wangji’s face while Lan Wangji was mentally panicking, but also drinking in Wei Wuxian’s face. The bunny gently squirmed before hopping out of Lan Wangji’s hold.
That gave Wei Wuxian a moment to close the distance between the two and bring their lips together. Lan Wangji’s eyes widened as his heart began to beat rapidly against his chest.
Wei Wuxian quickly backed off, bringing his hand to his mouth.
“I-I’m sorry! It’s okay if you don't feel the same!” Wei Wuxian frantically said, his wrists flicking, “Just pretend it ne-”
Wei Wuxian was quickly cut off as Lan Wangji lunged forward and brought Wei Wuxian in a searing kiss. Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened before he pressed himself forward, wrapping his arms around Lan Wangji’s neck and closing his eyes.
Lan Wangji pressed himself forward, wrapping his arms around Wei Wuxian’s waist. Lan Wangji gently licked Wei Wuxian’s lips which caused Wei Wuxian’s mouth the fall agape, and soon both of their tongues were fighting for dominance. Wei Wuxian moaned in between their mouths and continued pressing on.
When they began to lose their breath, they parted, but not before Lan Wangji gently nipped at the bottom of Wei Wuxian’s lip; that little action allowed realization to dawn on Wei Wuxian.
“Oh… oh, it was you! You were the one to kiss me during the Phoenix mountain hunt!” Wei Wuxian exclaimed.
Lan Wangji plastered on a minute, guilty look as he looked at Wei Wuxian with a soft gaze.
“I knew I was wrong, very wrong at the time.” Lan Wangji countered.
Wei Wuxian only chuckled and placed a peck on the corner of Lan Wangji’s lips.
“You best take responsibility, Hanguang-jun! You took my first kiss!” Wei Wuxian teased with a tilted smile.
“Mn, mark your words.”

Tomorrow is Another Day
[Chapter 4]
Summary: Wei Wuxian is bitten by a werewolf and battles with his new identity followed by his fears. Lan Wangji and the rest of his friends come to his aid.
———————————————————————————
Upon waking up, Wei Wuxian felt sore in all the worst places. His back ached, and his legs felt numb; he felt like an invisible weight of rocks was crushing him.
When his eyes finally adjusted to the light filtering through the cave, the first thing he noticed was Wen Qing and Wen Ning, sitting and watching him like a bird eyeing a dead carcass. Wei Wuxian’s eyes narrowed for a moment as confusion set in.
“Uhh… Hi?” He began in a confused tone, matching his expression. “What, uhh, is going on? Why-”
“What do you remember from last night?” Wen Qing interrupted with a sour tone.
Now, Wei Wuxian was ten times more confused. Wen Ning looked frightened, but not toward Wei Wuxian; it was more about what he had remembered.
“I… don't remember much.” Wei Wuxian spoke truthfully.
The only thing Wei Wuxian remembered was his hand burning and then almost nothing. He guessed that it was most likely nothing, and due to exhaustion, he just decided to sleep until the next morning. This wasn't an odd occurrence; most nights, Wei Wuxian wouldn't remember due to fatigue from the resentment or just exhaustion.
“Truly? You remember nothing?” Wen Qing pushed, crossing her arms over her chest, “What do you remember?”
“Oh, uhm… I remember going to work and trying out a few theories I had on talismans and arrays, but then my hand began to hurt, and nothing happened. My guess is I just went to bed…” Wei Wuxian hesitated, “Why? What’s happened?”
Wen Qing sighed heavily, rubbing her eyes. Wen Ning fidgeted with his hands as he looked toward the cave floor. Now, Wei Wuxian was as confused as ever.
“We heard you scream last night,” Wen Qing began, “When we arrived, you were nowhere to be found except for a pile of tattered robes and… a wolf.”
Wei Wuxian quickly sat up, which was a terrible idea, as he slumped forward with a groan. Wen Ning hurried over and gently helped him sit up.
“Wait, wait, wait, what!? But that's- how?” Wei Wuxian stuttered.
His mind was running a million miles a second; such a thing wasn't possible, but the evidence was overwhelming, especially since his most trusted friends had seen it.
“I don't know, Wei Wuxian. I truly don't, I'm just as confused as you.” Wen Qing looked down, “There could be a few possibilities. A while ago, while I was still under Wen Rouhan’s eye, I read a manuscript detailing various yaogui, some of which dated back as far as a thousand years. None of them stood out except one, the wolf yaogui, an ancient one that failed to reach divinity and became the only one of its kind… with its ability to pass its lineage through a single bite.”
“Wait!” Wei Wuxian interrupted, “Are you saying that the thing that bit me… was that same yaogui.”
Wen Qing nodded, “I’m not completely clear on the facts, Wei Wuxian, but the evidence points toward this. It most likely saw you as a potential being that could carry the lineage.”
“There is no way to cure it?”
“I don't know, it’s been a long time since I've gotten the chance to reread it, and the likelihood of finding it again is minimal unless we go to a… certain place.” Wen Qing hesitated for a moment.
“Yes, yes! What place do you have in mind!? If it’s a curse, I'm sure it can be broken!” Wei Wuxian exclaimed, his legs dangling from the side of his stone bed, despite the pain.
“Cloud Rece-”
“Nope, no way, not happening.” He interrupted with the cross of his arms and lowered his head.
“Wei Wuxian, if you truly want this curse to disappear, Gusu Lan is your best bet. They have a wider range of knowledge. Should I remind you about their forbidden section?” Wen Qing huffed angrily.
“Shall I remind you that I am the most hated man in the cultivation world!?” Wei Wuxian muttered.
“But Lan-er-gongzi may be willing to help you, and if he is willing to help you, so is Lan-zongzhu.” Wen Qing countered.
“Lan Zhan wouldn't help me,” He muttered with lowered eyes, “He hates me.”
Wen Qing groans, “Wei Wuxian, he doesn't hate you, you’d figure that out if you’d talk to him.”
“I’m not going to Gusu, you can't make me.” Wei Wuxian pouted.
Wen Qing was truly on her last limb, especially with someone as stubborn as Wei Wuxian, especially when it came to his well-being. She sighed, rubbing her eyes, and began to think. When she had an idea, she shared it with the others.
“Next month, during the full moon. We’ll chain you, and once you're transformed, I’ll examine you. If I can't find a way to help you, then we'll go to Gusu. No questions asked.” Wen Qing compromised.
Wei Wuxian beamed and quickly nodded his head, but stopped just as fast with a groan. His body still felt like a ton of bricks.
“Haha… of course Qing-Jie! I'm sure you’ll be able to help.” He said enthusiastically.
Wen Qing sighed and turned toward Wen Ning. Wen Ning looked back toward his sister, saw the order in her eyes, and promptly left the cave to inform the others of Wei Wuxian’s well-being, but also to see how breakfast was being prepped.
“So,” Wei Wuxian drawled, “What now?”
“You are going to tell me everything, from what I can remember, the victim's body changes to adhere to the curse.” Wen Qing snapped.
Wei Wuxian groaned and slumped forward, the stinging pain spreading around his body. He began to account for it when he noticed it started. The first few days were rough; the sounds that surrounded the Burial Mound became too overwhelming for Wei Wuxian’s sensitive ears, and then it was the smells. It smelled like rotting corpses. The only place he had found solace was inside his cave, but even the blood pool that resided there gave off a putrid smell that made Wei Wuxian gag.
Don't get him wrong, during the Sunshot Campaign, corpses surrounded him, and they did give off a terrible smell, but now it was overwhelmingly bad, something he wasn't entirely used to, like it had been upped a hundred percent.
Wen Qing listened to Wei Wuxian explain his predicament, and she grew angrier with every second that passed, not at the curse but at Wei Wuxian. The icing on the cake was when Wei Wuxian went on to explain last month's full moon and how it was most likely the cause of the pain he had felt that night.
“Wei Wuxian!” She snapped, “Why didn't you tell me!? Or A-Ning!?”
Wei Wuxian shrank in on himself, “I didn't think it was a big deal! Truly! I thought it would've been a one-time thing, especially with all these new senses of smell and hearing!” He defended.
Wen Qing sighed loudly, rubbing her eyes until she looked over and noticed Wen Ning.
“Breakfast?” She asked.
Wen Ning nodded, and she nodded back. Wen Qing glared at Wei Wuxian before walking toward the exit of the cave.
“I’ll have A-Ning bring you breakfast. You’re clearly in no state to be moving.” She huffed.
“Thank you, Qing-jie! You are truly the best!” Wei Wuxian beamed, which made Wen Qing sigh.
The duo left, leaving Wei Wuxian with his thoughts. This, what it was, it frightened him beyond repair now. He would do anything to make sure nobody found out, but he knew it wouldn't be that easy.
His mind wandered to Lan Wangji, beautiful and righteous Lan Wangji. Wei Wuxian dreaded the idea of seeing him again; he didn't want to show up and prove that he was weak, even with his cultivation path. He prayed that Wen Qing would find a way.
-
The days passed by rather quickly, and the Wen remnants were working hard to produce radishes and other assortments of food to sell or to eat. Wen Qing has been working overtime trying to find a solution for the upcoming full moon. Wen Ning stayed by her side, offering support and his limited knowledge.
Wei Wuxian’s body stopped being sore after a day's rest, and he was back to hopping around, doing what he usually did, from helping harvest the crops to testing his latest theories and inventions. To anyone outside, he looked the same, still acted the same, still laughed the same, but the Wen siblings saw something more profound: fear.
Despite their worry, they couldn't say or do much for him besides find a way to deal with the curse, which was proving futile.
It was now the day of the full moon. Wei Wuxian carried A-Yuan on his shoulders as they trekked up the hill. They had come back from selling radishes.
Wei Wuxian always insisted that A-Yuan come along, since buyers and merchants couldn't deny a little boy anything. On that particular day, they thankfully came back with no radishes, having sold out, and a coin purse from their sale.
Wei Wuxian gently handed A-Yuan over to Granny Wen and bid the two goodnight.
The Wen remnants expressed their concern, especially little A-Yuan, but Wen Qing lowered their fear with calm explanations. Nowadays, the burial mounds are a tad quieter, only being broken by the squeals of a small child having fun with his Xian-gege.
Wei Wuxian entered his cave to find Wen Qing standing to one side with his arms crossed, and Wen Ning holding the chains connected to the wall. Wei Wuxian chuckled at that and made his way over.
“Getting revenge?” Wei Wuxian teased.
Wen Ning’s eyes widened, and he quickly shook his head, “Of-Of course not, Wei-gongzi! Th-This is ju-”
“I know, no need to worry, Wen Ning.” Wei Wuxian chuckled.
Wen Ning relaxed minutely before wrapping the chains around Wei Wuxian’s body and attaching the shackles to his wrists, ankles, and neck.
“Ugh, these are uncomfortable.” Wei Wuxian joked.
Wen Qing groaned and walked over toward the nearest chain. She pulled on it, jerking Wei Wuxian forward.
“Hey!” He exclaimed.
“I’m only making sure, can't have you harming anyone.” Wen Qing huffed.
Wei Wuxian only grumbled to himself as he slowly got down onto his knees.
The trio waited and waited, and finally the sun moved and the moon lifted, casting rays of soft light into the cave straight onto them. Wen Ning fidgeted, standing nearby in case of needed support, and Wen Qing watched intently.
“You’re staring al-” Wei Wuxian slumped forward with a groan, “Gods, that hurts! It hurts… a lot!”
Wen Qing didn't move, only watched with intent as Wei Wuxian’s body contorted and changed. It was gruesome to see his spine becoming apparent, his bones growing and snapping into unnatural places. His hands and feet growing, his fingernails growing into sharpened claws, and all in all, Wei Wuxian gritted his teeth and made occasional pants as his body contorted.
His face grew, breaking and growing into a canine maw, his eyes glowing, and soft, pointy ears growing on the top of his head. A bone with fresh skin slowly protruded from his tailbone, long and lanky, covered by the black fur that covered his body. Truly a sight to see.
When it was over, his robes lay in tatters, and a giant black mass of fur and slobber pulled against the chains with loud crashes and a snapping sound.
It was no normal-looking wolf, Wen Qing knew that for sure. A wolf didn't stand on two feet, nor was it as big as this creature in front of her. Wen Ning watched with a saddened expression, fidgeting with his hands but staying on high alert for any sign that the chains might break.
The wolf snapped its jaw forward toward Wen Qing, who didn't move a muscle, even if her brother did, even if it was subtle. She continued to watch its behavior. Wei Wuxian was no longer in there, like he was asleep for the night, making way for this thing.
“Wei Wuxian!” Wen Qing called, but all she got was the snapping of jaws and loud growling.
“Jiejie… he, is he?” Wen Ning muttered.
Wen Wing nodded with a low sigh, “If I can't get to him, then I can't assess him and this curse. Wei Wuxian isn't himself, or rather, he’s asleep inside his mind.”
Wen Ning nodded minutely, flinching at the sound of the wolf howling low and rough into the night.
When it stopped, Wen Ning turned toward Wen Qing.
“Are- Are you bringing him to-to Cloud Recesses?” Wen Ning asks.
Wen Qing nodded softly, “Mn, it’s our best bet. I'll go with him. A-Ning, you’ll need to stay here and watch over things while I go with him.”
“Of course, Jiejie.”
They sat near each other as they watched Wei Wuxian growl and huff. The night passed in that fashion until the next morning, when Wen Qing fell asleep at one point. Wen Ning kept watching in case of problems, but everything went smoothly.
Wei Wuxian came to, wrapped in a blanket, with the chains discarded on the ground.
“Qing-jie?” He muttered, looking up with clouded eyes toward Wen Qing.
Wen Wing sighed, crossing her arms over her chest, and looked at him with profound resignation.
“We are going to Gusu.” She snapped, “Unless you wish to harm someone or do this every full moon, you’ll have to cooperate.”
Wei Wuxian frowned. He knew what he had to do, but having to go to Gusu for help irked him.
“Yeah, alright. Let’s go to Gusu.” Wei Wuxian sighed deeply.
And in a few days, Wen Qing and Wei Wuxian head to Gusu for information, and, likely, help.

Tomorrow is Another Day
[Chapter 3]
Summary: Wei Wuxian is bitten by a werewolf and battles with his new identity followed by his fears. Lan Wangji and the rest of his friends come to his aid.
_________________________________________________
Wen Qing was arranging a few of her limited supplies that she had recently picked up from the market in Yiling. Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning had recently gone down to sell a few radishes and other vegetables and only came back with a few medicinal herbs from their pay.
There was a soft knock on the door signalling the arrival of her most loyal patient. She sighed heavily.
“Come in.” Wen Qing called out.
The door to the tilted hut revealed the one and only, Wei Wuxian. Who sheepishly entered, closing the door behind him and making his way to an old stool.
“How is your wound? Any discomfort?” Wen Qing asks with a tilt of her head.
“Nope! Everything is just fine.” Wei Wuxian smiled, “Why? Are you worried about me?” He teased.
Wen Qing narrowed her eyes before making her way over toward her most troublesome patient. Lifting his sleeve to reveal bandages, in the past month it seemed to have gotten better. A normal cultivator would've healed within the first few weeks but given Wei Wuxian’s predicament, it would heal but would scar over.
She begins to unravel the bandages, revealing a gnarly-looking bite, the pus and redness had long since faded, but the bite was still evident. A definitive canine bite, whether from a normal wolf or a yaogui.
After hearing Wen Ning’s account on the events, Wen Qing had figured out that whatever had attacked Wei Wuxian was no normal animal. Certain animals tended to stand clear, especially if humans were involved. This was most definitely a yaogui but without the proper equipment, Wen Qing wasn't able to get the full extent of the wound so later it was decided to keep a watch on Wei Wuxian.
“It looks better, nothing out of the ordinary, then?” Wen Qing pushed.
“No, I told you. I'm fine, good as new!” Wei Wuxian scratched out his arms with a beaming smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.
It’s been a full month since that night of pain, since it hasn't happened, Wei Wuxian believed himself to be in the clear but it frightened him. The full moon was approaching and he wasn't entirely sure if it was a one time thing or an everytime thing.
“Fine, just get out of here. I see you enough as it is.” Wen Qing sighed with a flick of her wrist.
Wei Wuxian laughed and got up from the chair, making his way to the door. “I’m fine, Qing-Jie! No need to worry.”
“I hope so.” And with that, he left the hut, leaving Wen Qing alone.
-
It’s been a few days since the checkup. Wen Ning and a few other Wen remnants, after being asked by Wen Qing, kept an eye on Wei Wuxian.
They didn't find anything odd besides the fact that he appeared more sensitive to loud noises or stronger smells. A-Yuan also appeared to notice, asking “Is Xian-gege alright?” or “Is he sick,” but nothing more. After explanations from the few Wens, he stopped asking.
Wen Ning, on the other hand, noticed a few small things. Wei Wuxian craved a bit more meat than he's letting on, he acts off in certain settings and his temper seemed a bit more delicate. He’s gone to his sister to inquire about his findings but Wen Qing brushes it off with a few excuses of it being his chosen cultivation but on the off hand, she’s also becoming concerned.
And one night, the night of the fullest moon, she has every right to be.
-
Wei Wuxian, after bidding the others goodnight, heads back to his own living space in the cave. A cave that was conveniently named ‘The Demon Subduing Cave’.
He lit a talisman and lit a few of the remaining candles. A few of them, the wax had already long since ran out.
Wei Wuxian stretched out his body and sat at the stone desk, grabbing ink and a brush. He began to work on a modified array on past projects that hadn't worked out quite the way he wanted. He would've worked on his compass but it was rather late and he didn't wish to work his brain too hard figuring it out.
The moon reached its peak, allowing rays of soft, bluish-white fill the cave. Wei Wuxian continued to work until his hand ached and it burned.
He quickly dropped the brush with a grimace and held his hand, looking at it as if it somehow had burned him, but he found nothing.
As the moon continued to rise, the pain spread from his hand to his entire body. He groaned and quickly stood up from his desk, clenching his stomach. It felt like throwing up, like being crushed by boulders, like being thrown back into the burial mounds and mending his broken body.
Wei Wuxian stumbled back, his body shifting in unnatural ways. Now, his bones truly were breaking and mending together, but not in the way it was supposed to be, not the anatomy of a human. His skin began to break apart as he fell to his knees, the skin breaking to reveal black fur coating his body.
This hurt, it hurt so much worse than anything he’d felt before. His face began to morph, his jaw snapping and growing in length to became the snout of the thing he dreaded the most. His body grew, his feet, hands, back, legs, everything in his body was snapping and growing.
He screamed in pain, alerting everyone, from the Wen remnants to the smallest of critters that lived in the burial mounds.
Wen Qing and Wen Ning rush into the cave, but Wei Wuxian is no longer to be found. Instead, a monster, who stood on two legs and growled threateningl,y stared at them with piercing silver eyes. Tattered robes lay strewn around the beast.
“Wei-Gongzi!” Wen Ning exclaimed in fear.
“A-Ning! Secure him!” Wen Qing shouted, “Now!” She said as Wen Ning hesitated.
The wolf lunged toward Wen Qing, who quickly dodged and backed up as far as she could. Wen Ning, ran to the corner of the cave, grabbing the same chains they had used to subdue him in when he had no awareness.
The wolf continued to lunge for the seemingly easier target, growling threateningly with his tail lashing out in anger. Wen Ning hesitated, before jumping into action.
Wen Qing backed up as far as she could, grabbing three needles from her sleeve and hiding them. Wen Ning only needed to subdue him with the chains, she could handle the rest by knocking him out cold.
Wen Ning was able to bring down the wolf, or rather, secure him long enough for Wen Qing to stick three needles into a point that knocked the wolf out cold.
The creature’s eyes rolled in the back of its head, and it stumbled forward before collapsing on the harsh floor of the cave. Both Wen Qing and Wen Ning, seemingly out of breath.
“Th-That was..?” Wen Ning muttered.
“Yeah, that was Wei Wuxian…”

Tomorrow is Another Day
[Chapter 2]
Summary: Wei Wuxian is bitten by a werewolf and battles with his new identity followed by his fears. Lan Wangji and the rest of his friends come to his aid.
———————————————————————————
Wei Wuxian wakes abruptly as the rising sun gives way into the cave he has come to familiarize himself with as home.
Throughout the night, his skin ached, and his ears rang but despite that, he felt well-rested. That night wasn't the worst he's been through but its up there, most nights he barely sleeps, more focused on his work. He only sleeps when he is threatened by Wen Qing’s needles.
As he sits up on his stone bed, his eyes adjust to the blinding light of the sun filtering into the cave. His skin still aches, but it hurts less so. A soft drop echoed throughout the cave, startling Wei Wuxian.
His head turns and looks toward the blood pool near the back of the cave, yet nothing seems to be dripping into the red liquid. Wei Wuxian is confused but gets up from his bed anyway to start the day.
After exiting his cave, stretching his arms up and bending his back, a soft patter of feet can be heard seemingly miles away. Wei Wuxian can hear him before even seeing him? How is that possible?
A small figure comes around the corner and crashes right into Wei Wuxian’s legs with a soft oomph.
“Xian-gege!” A-Yuan exclaims, looking up at him with a toothy grin.
“Good Morning, my little radish. Have you come to wake me?” Wei Wuxian smiled.
A-Yuan nods his head enthusiastically and makes a gesture with his arms.
“Up, up, please,” A-Yuan asks, his doe eyes rather hard to resist.
Wei Wuxian chuckled, “Alright, alright.”
Wei Wuxian stretches down and picks up his little radish and bounces him a bit, the smile still plastered on his face.
“Qing-Jiejie says it's time for breakfast! And asked me to come get you!” A-Yuan smiled, his arms tight around his Xian-gege’s neck.
“Haha! Alright, come on.” Wei Wuxian chuckled, still carrying the small boy.
Before even entering the opening to the larger building of the burial mounds, Wei Wuxian could smell the food that’s been prepared by the Wen remnants, it was radish soup. Anything of luxury didn't come easy and even now Wei Wuxian wished for something more than just radishes but knew that was asking for too much.
“Mmh, it seems we’re having radish soup again, eh, A-Yuan?” Wei Wuxian grumbled.
A-Yuan chuckled before patting Wei Wuxian’s cheek. “How did Xian-gege know?”
“I can smell it from here, can't you?” His tone went a bit higher in a playful tone he usually used for A-Yuan.
“Mmm, no,” A-Yuan said thoughtfully.
Wei Wuxian was a bit taken aback, he chopped it up to A-Yuan playing a prank on him but perhaps he was not. Wei Wuxian didn't wish to jump to conclusions, especially with a little boy around A-Yuan’s age.
“Alright, alright, let's go before Qing-Jie comes to find us herself.” Wei Wuxian chuckles.
They enter the large rugged building, and there sat three different tables with five or more stools, masterly crafted by an uncle who specialized in crafting furniture. Each Wen remnant claimed a stool, only two were open for Wei Wuxian and A-Yuan.
The duo sat on their respective chairs, Wen Qing side-eying Wei Wuxian every chance she got, mostly to make sure he was eating but also to take a peak at his complexion for any hint of a fever.
“Qing-Jie, am I so handsome that you have to look at me all the time?” Wei Wuxian drawled with a smirk.
Wen Qing, already used to Wei Wuxian's teasing, only scoffed and gestured toward the food.
“No, now eat your food before it gets cold. You look worse for wear.” She grimaced.
“Aiyah, can't you just be nice to me!? I've been injured by a ravenous beast, have some pity! Also radishes, again. Why not potatoes?!” Wei Wuxian pouted, crossing his arms over his chest like a child.
“You know why, now eat.” Wen Qing gestured with her head with a sour expression.
Wei Wuxian relented and began to shove radish soup into his mouth with a giggling A-Yuan in the background, followed by Wen Ning’s small laughter.
-
As the day continued on, Wei Wuxian noticed certain things. One, A-Yuan was not kidding about not being able to smell the food from that far, apparently no person could. His sense of smell had heightened along with his hearing.
Wei Wuxian could hear the soft tapping of crow claws against a dried corpse or dirt. He could hear the whispers of the Wen’s as they worked through the field, he could hear things or people before even seeing them, it almost frightened him yet he didn't bother saying anything, especially to Wen Qing, he didn't feel a reason too.
And so the month dragged on like that, some days would be fine while others drove him up the wall. During those days, he sequestered himself inside of his cave and didn't come out until dinner. To the others, this wasn't odd but Wen Qing and Wen Ning knew better.
The sun began to set, bringing way for the moon. The Wen remnants head for their huts for sleep, the lanterns that lit their way gently simmering as the wind picked up.
Wei Wuxian stayed awake, his body ached, everything did. As the moon reached its peak, his body weighed tons. It ached almost as much as the moment he had decided to give up his golden core for Jiang Cheng.
The night passed with him tossing and turning, silently crying as it felt like bugs were crawling underneath his skin, as his bones ached, but nothing happened besides that.
So the next morning, Wei Wuxian continued on with his day as if nothing had ever happened.

Tomorrow is Another Day
[Chapter 1]
Summary: Wei Wuxian is bitten by a werewolf and battles with his new identity followed by his fears. Lan Wangji and the rest of his friends come to his aid.
(Note: Originally published on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/64752346/chapters/166382761 )
———————————————————————————
A soft light emanated through the decrepit hill and dead trees, signaling the falling sun. The remnants, after finishing their dinner for the night, head for their huts and small tents for a night's rest, all but two stay awake. Wei Wuxian rushes around through the cave, Wen Ning standing to the side, fidgeting with his hands as he watches carefully.
After a few seconds, Wei Wuxian exclaims and lifts a few rugged parchment paper with writing.
“Found it!”
Along with the parchment paper, talisman paper was also among it, holding scribbles and odd writings.
Wei Wuxian pockets the supplies into the sleeves of his robes and begins to look around for his flute, the ghost flute, Chengqing. Despite its frightening appearance, Wei Wuxian doesn't use it much, but mostly for experimenting as he is now.
“We-Wei-Gongzi, why mu-must we test this at night? Aren't yo-you worried?” Wen Ning whispered.
Wei Wuxian turned toward Wen Ning with a beaming smile and youthful eyes. He walks over and puts his arm around Wen Ning’s shoulder, the way he used to with Jiang Wanyin. Mostly in a calming manner, or so he hopes.
“No need to worry, I feel it would work much better at night, especially with the moon’s light.” Wei Wuxian smirked.
Wei Wuxian unhooks his arm from around the fierce corpse and begins towards the exit of the cave. He looks back at his friend and gestures with his head. A soft exhale can be heard from Wen Ning, despite not having the need to breathe.
After the trio exits the cave that's deeper in the burial mounds, they trek their way through the dirt and around their radish farm, much to Wei Wuxian’s dismay that they’re not potatoes, since by Wen Qing’s diagnosis, they would not grow well in the dead soil of the burial mounds, how unfair!
They make their way down the hill, exiting the wards that the old Yiling Patriarch himself had made, Wen Ning trailing behind Wei Wuxian, with the addition of a few other fierce corpses that weren't allowed to be nothing more than mindless zombies with rising resentment.
With the full moon at its highest, the light beaming from the planet in the sky made it almost seem like the day hadn't left. Wei Wuxian always enjoyed the moon at its fullest, he’d sit at the top of a building in lotus pier and listened as the gentle waves hit the docks.
During that time, he was still young and naive, and the fear of war hadn't hardened his face and mind. But all good things must come to an end, but even now, he can still enjoy the moon, and his newfound family enjoys it just as much as he does. Little A-Yuan always enjoyed the stories of constellations that Wei Wuxian had learned from his Shijie.
Wei Wuxian, Wen Ning, and his fierce corpses make it to a much greener area of trees that sat near the border of the Burial Mounds, much further from the village of Yiling.
“Alright,” Wei Wuxian clapped his hands, “I’ll draw this array. Wen Ning, be sure to watch the surroundings, just in case.”
Wen Ning bowed his head and whispered to the others before they moved into a formation.
The point of this array was to draw out different beings of resentment and track how they react, but also with the added protection of a shield. Much like his spirit-attraction flag. The certain symbols that are etched into the array were to add a shield, or rather a ward, when attracting higher resentment beings and due to the fact Wei Wuxian is no longer able to carry a sword, he needs to take precautions.
After the completion of the array, Wei Wuxian nods toward Wen Ning, who nods back in affirmation, a sign for Wei Wuxian to begin. Slowly, Wei Wuxian takes out his dizi and steps into the array, lifting up his dizi, he begins to play a mellow tune which picks up into a much louder and rougher sound, in order to reach farther targets.
The array sings and slowly begins to emanate a soft red glow that contrasts with Wei Wuxian’s own red eyes. The resentment swirls and screams as the tune begins to pick up the pace.
For a while nothing happens, just soft rustling in the trees that turns out to be birds and branches cracking, only to be small critters snapping them for their homes. It really irked Wei Wuxian and brought in a deep-seated disappointment in his stomach.
That was until the bushes nearby rustled and soft glowing eyes pierced right through Wei Wuxian’s very soul. The low growl it emanated was enough to scare Wei Wuxian into dropping his flute, he knew what that sound was.
Many years on the street made him imperative to that sound, little Wei Ying fighting for scraps by dogs that were just as hungry but more fierce in their hunger, that was until Jiang-Shushu had found him and brought him back but tonight wasn't about reminiscing about the past.
Wei Wuxian, in his fear-mingled state, began to run. He only had one goal, to get far away as possible.
“Wei-Gongzi!!” Wen Ning shouted after him.
The fierce corpse didn't see the creature, nor hear it, mostly focusing on his own surrounding area.
A fast blur of black passed right by Wen Ning and that's once it clicked for the fierce corpse, now his only job was to protect the man who had given him another choice in life despite it being an unorthodox way of cultivating.
-
Wei Wuxian ran as fast as his legs would carry him, but it wasn't enough; this monster was chasing him, it was much faster and stronger than the fearsome Yiling Patriarch. He wanted his Shijie, he wanted Jiang Cheng, he wanted anyone to chase away the slobbering beast, but no one did.
The creature pinned him down, forcing him to hit the ground with his back, hopefully in this case, he’ll have a fighting chance. With its piercing red eyes, it snapped it’s maw right toward Wei Wuxian’s face.
Wei Wuxian reacted quickly, with widened eyes, he brought his arm up and watched as the beast's maw clamped down on his arm, breaking flesh and splattering blood.
In that moment, he truly thought this was how it was going to end, being mauled by his worst fear.
A low growl vibrated through the night, distracting the creature for a few mere moments before being swiped away by a fierce corpse, Wen Ning.
The fierce corpse wrestled with the creature before finally wrapping his arm around its neck and snapping it was a satisfying crunch that echoed through the trees.
Wen Ning drops the corpse of the beast and hurries toward Wei Wuxian. His arms lifted just slightly, but not quite touching Wei Wuxian.
“We-Wei-Gongzi!” Wen Ning exclaims, “Ar-Are you alright!?”
Wei Wuxian slowly looked into the eyes of his friend and gave a forced smile.
“I’m- I’m alright, Wen Ning. Thank you.” Wei Wuxian muttered.
“Oh! No-No need to thank me. Are you injured?” Wen Ning frantically asks.
Wei Wuxian took a moment, looking down at his arm before sighing and standing up with the assistance of Wen Ning. A few of the fierce corpses that came with them began to show up as well.
“That damned thing bit me. Aiyah, Wen Qing is gonna be angry, she’s going to chew me out for doing something reckless… again!” Wei Wuxian grumbled.
Wen Ning only nodded before gently grabbing Wei Wuxian non-injured arm and bringing him in the direction of the Burial Mounds.
-
Wen Qing stood near the entrance that led into their farm of mostly Radishes and whatever vegetables they could grow in dead soil. The moment she spotted Wei Wuxian and her brother, she scowled.
“Ah! Wen Qing, How nice of you to greet us.” Wei Wuxian with a mock bow.
“Quiet,” She snapped before looking toward Wen Ning, “What happened? Spare no details.”
And who was Wen Ning to inquire his sister's wrath? As Wen Ning began to recount the incident that injured Wei Wuxian, the ghost cultivator only muttered to himself, occasionally interrupting by saying “I’m fine” or “It’s no big deal,” but Wen Qing didn't pay attention to him.
With a loud sigh, she rubbed her temples. “A-Ning, bring Wei Wuxian to the cave. I'll gather my supplies and meet you there.”
Before Wei Wuxian could object, Wen Qing snapped her gaze toward him with narrowed eyes. “And don't think for a second you are getting out of this.”
Wei Wuxian placed his hand against his chest in mock hurt. “You wound me, do you truly think so low of me?” He said sarcastically.
“Yes.” Wen Qing says before stalking off toward her hut.
When Wen Qing arrived at the entrance of the cave, she saw Wei Wuxian sitting on his slab of stone he called a bed, with little blankets and sheets, with not even a pillow.
The cave looked, well it looked like a cave with the added addition of strewn-out paper and talismans, a basin with water that must've been filled up by Wen Ning, and with a stone desk with a run-down stool.
Wen Qing approached the duo, Wen Ning fidgeting with his hands and Wei Wuxian sitting on his bed in only his inner robe. She mentally sighed and began addressing his wound him occasionally hissing at the contact of medicine and the bandage.
“If you start to feel ill, tell me or A-Ning. Though you should be fine, it didn't look infected.” Wen Qing huffed.
“Thank you, Qing-jie. What would I do without you?” Wei Wuxian drawled out with a pout.
“Die.” She scoffed. Wei Wuxian mocked hurt once more and leaned back. “Alright, enough, it's late enough as it is, and you need rest.”
Wei Wuxian protested, saying he had talismans or arrays to attend too but was shot down, so he relented and slowly laid on his bed, feeling the roughness of the rock against his skin.
“Go-Goodnight, We-Wei-Gongzi.” Wen Ning bowed before placing Chengqing on the stone desk and leaving with his sister.
