CONNECTING ART TO YOUR WORLD
If I had to pick a color scheme for my life it would be pinkish or redish in hue. I love the colors of the sunset and highly saturated colors. I do not have a story as to why I would pick these colors, but as a kid I was always taken to see the sunset and learned to love it. Now these colors with high intensity just speak to me!

PHOTOJOURNALISM
PHOTO 1:
This photo is a great example of photojournalism. This photo takes place in Kabul, Afghanistan in March. Najiba holds her nephew, Shabir, who's sister was killed in a bomb blast. The bomb was set off in a peaceful part of Kabul, when they were walking to school in the early morning. This photo clearly shows the viewer the sense of mourning the two were in, especially with Najiba with her hand on her forehead.
PHOTO 2:
Another example of photojournalism shows two women in a detention center in Surman, Libya. Refugees in these detentions face hardship. Often times they are malnourished, physically and sexually abused. This photo clearly shows the story through one picture. You can see on the faces of the women they seem defeated. Captured in the photo you can see one woman weeping in fear while the other is acting like the support system to hold them together.
What motivates the choice of black and white color is the photo being taken. When we take a photo in black and white or change the photo after I think it is important to incorporate when we have an important photo, especially in photo journalism. When we have an important photo taking away the color allows the viewer to not be distracted and fully examine the photo for what it is. The choice is effective, having color or having no color does change the way we view the photo.

Im going to apologize in advance I am not in any way shape or form an artist. But this self portrait does represent me. This drawing is supposed to be a side view of me and in my head it is filled with all the things I like, bright colors, music, sunsets, and the ocean. there is also a peace sign because I think of myself as a very peaceful person. and the outer portion outside my head is supposed to be my hair, it was supposed to look like a braid.

Writing a Self Portrait
Hello, my name is Samantha Pondillo and I am 19 years old. I align with the female gender. My ethnicity is Italian ancestry, as I am the third generation here in America. Some things I like to do for fun is going to the beach to watch sunsets, I like to read, and garden. I am not a member of any organized group unless you count study groups for school! I am currently a server at a local Italian restaurant here in Bradenton, but just for now! I am a potential nursing student at SCF. Something that makes me uniquely me is hopefulness. Some say I am always happy and smiling. I have a very positive outlook in life, and I see the good in everything.

this art piece has a funny story, about two years ago my dad and I moved out. We were looking at this beautiful house when we finally got a showing to see the inside. Instantly when we walk in the house it looks like the previous owner might’ve been a circus leader. The house was staged with all these bright colors, orange walls, and blue couch. my dad said, ”OK we’ll take the house” but we did not know they left a few things behind. They left behind this mixed media mosaic. I never saw it when we were at the showing, but I fell in love and wouldn’t let my dad get rid of it. Now it hangs in one of the brightest rooms in the house. The piece is made up of small perfectly painted and cut stones, glass, and tiles on a painted wooden base. this piece serves elegance in our very plain house that we moved into. As I said, it is in the brightest room in the house, when the sun is shining on it, it reminds me of spring. I think this piece is very beautiful, I love that it is not symmetrical. The sunflower in the upper right is not identical to the sunflower on the left and I think this shows creativity of the artist.

Shahzia Sikander 1997 Hood's Red Rider #2. Vegetable color, dry pigment, water color, tea on hand-prepared Wasli paper, 10 1/8" x 7 1/8"
2. FACT 1: Shahzia Sikander, the artist, was raised in Lahore (Pakistan's 2nd largest country), Pakistan then moved to the United States in 1993.
FACT 2: Sikander earned her B.F.A in 1991 from the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore, where she received rigorous training from Bashir Ahmad.
FACT 3: Sikander works across a variety of mediums consisting of drawing, painting, print making, animation, installation, and performance and video.
FACT 4: Most of Sikanders work addresses and concerns women's role's in society.
FACT 5: Sikander specializes in Indian and Persian miniature painting.
After learning a little bit about Shahzia Sikander and the 1997 Hood's Red Rider 2, my perspective of the painting has shifted. At first glance it looked like there was a lot going on. With there being a lot of color in the painting I assumed it was not a depressive piece. Also a first glance I could tell there was a LOT more to the meaning but It was hard to decode. After learning more about her and her work, I was correct, the piece has much more meaning. In the painting she introduces the idea that in European fairytales there is gender bias, which was a part of her childhood. With this work she confronts the ideology of women. Now I can see the deeper message being portrayed.
