Happy Inktober 2023 to those who celebrate!
I'm obsessed with their facial expression. Might become a character in my seasonal retail concept story.

Starting to find inspiration in facial expressions...
I'd like to start a new illustration for an 18x24 linocut. Filling all of that space with subjects that feel worthy of it is challenging, so I might need to spend more time in the sketching phase than I'm used to.

"The Follower", 8"x10" linocut print. I had drawn the illustration onto this block five years ago and just recently gathered the courage to carve it-- and I think I did the original justice.

Thanks for the detailed reply!
I haven't studied etching myself, but printers I know will combine acrylic monotypes or watercolor before/after the print and I always think it looks good. You should try markers, too! And maybe watercolor pencils to compliment the etching style?
Good to know about the price of copper plate. I've wished for a way to reconstitute all of my linoleum scraps in the same way, if you ever decide on the furnace for your plates let me know how that goes!
In my opinion, printmaking relies heavily on tradition for proper teaching of the concepts and methods involved, but it is so versatile that everyone should experiment with new combinations of media and subject. That's how we keep this art alive!
Hey, I just found your work-- awesome stuff. I'm a linocut printmaker and a big fan of Transformers, but I've never paired the two and you bring such a cool style to the franchise.
Your Megatron etching-- how did you add the color? Is that a monotype underneath, of painted afterward, maybe?
Hi and thanks!
Underneath is an intaglio printing and colors is watercolor.
I wanted to use linocut for coloring becouse I thought lynolium should be cheaper then metal (which was a wrong thinking, copper at least really does not cost more then good lynolium or rubber, plus could be two sided but I'm moving, and I'm not sure how it's going to be in the future) and I didn't know how to do aquatint for that before. Back than I even thought to buy small metal melting furnace for easily fusible metals to cheaper all of that but metals have different alloys, i'm not really dig into that and manufacturers rarely write what kind of alloy metal has, and that's all affects the final result.
Plus, I live in a flat and going to live in a flat.
In a short may be not in this life :").
Besides letterpress printing has different texture then etching does, there needs to be very careful thinking in composition and a lot of experience in both to bind the two properly.
But watercolor looks good with etching I guess markers would look great with linocut, I'm not sure what a community of local traditionalists will say, watercolor in etching is a classic markers is not, lol, though I've seen these grandpas only from afar.
Sorry for adding this reply, I just thought it won't be superfluous if I answer: YEEEES.
It's always fun to experiment even on the stage of covering the paint and erasing it, the result always differ in a way that only printmaking does and that's cool.

We’re back with another update!
We’ve gotten a number of new prints available up on the shop today, including this deer skull and lotus piece of mine. This illustration took a somewhat unreasonable amount of time for me to finish up, but now it’s done and ready for sale!
The deer is considered an animal with a spirit of gentleness and softness, a messenger, etc. across many cultures. It is often a symbol of peace, purity, and harmony. The deer is a beautiful creature and I’m often inspired by seeing deer out and about in my area. I consider it a muse animal.
Also, where I grew up, we had many whitetail deer that would walk around the neighborhood and eat our gardens. Each time I’ve seen them I’m inspired and feel I am headed the right direction with my life.
This print is up on the shop now! Available in FOUR different sizes.
I have a few prints to upload tonight, so stay tuned for more line illustrations!

Here we go with part 2 of tonight’s update!
We’ve gotten a number of new prints available up on the shop today, including this robin skull piece of mine. This illustration was one of the first I made as I started thinking about opening a print shop, and now it’s ready for sale!
Robins are pretty sweet birds. We keep a bird feeder outside our back kitchen window, and it’s always a joy to see the Robins when they are back from their migration South in the Spring. We had a pair of Robins living in a bush in our backyard last year which was lots of fun.
This print is up on the shop now! Available in TWO different sizes.
I have a few prints to upload tonight, so stay tuned for more line illustrations!

Here we go with part 3 of tonight’s update!
We’ve gotten a number of new prints available up on the shop today, including this Shark Ray piece of mine. This illustration was one of the first I made as I started thinking about opening a print shop, and now it’s ready for sale!
Shark Rays (Rhina Ancylostoma) are a rare species that live in tropical coastal waters in the Western Indo-Pacific. They are neither sharks nor rays, but they are awfully beautiful.

Time again for another Friday update!
We have been falling behind in posting our artwork recently, and for that we apologize. However! We have a selection almost ready to go that we should be able to get up in the coming days, starting with this piece from K.
Hadrosaurids (or duck-billed dinosaurs) are the motivation behind this new illustration piece! They were active herbivores in the Upper Cretaceous Period. The species were facultative bipeds, with the young walking on two legs, while the adults mostly walked on four. Their jaws are designed for grinding plants, with multiple rows of teeth.
This print is up on the shop now! Available in FOUR different sizes, and SEVEN color choices!
I have a few more prints to scan and upload within the next few days, so stay tuned for more line illustrations coming your way!

A new illustration begins with a chipping sparrow. Inktober has me focused on the balance between black and white space.

It’s a Friday update!
Joining our selection is another linocut print from my college portfolio. “The Recorders” is a scene depicting robots created to explore and document human remains after people have left the Earth, so that one day our history may be preserved upon our return. I’ve been building this story for the past few years and hope give it new life in an upcoming graphic novel. Prints of its early development are now available through our shop link below.
With the spirit of Inktober in the air, I’m developing new linoleum prints centered around nature and the animal kingdom. I’ve discovered birch trees lend well to the black-and-white graphic. We’ll see whether or not printing with a rolling pin is possible by the end of the month.

Today has been a productive day. Along with K’s intricate designs, we’re beginning to add linocut illustrations to our online inventory. Our linoleum blocks are carved and pressed the old-fashioned way, giving each print a unique and timeless look.
You can find “Skywatcher” and our most recent listings through the shop’s link below.
Keep an eye out for updates later this week!

Alright! So we finally have some of my own work upon the shop.
My art style is pretty different from Eric’s work. My illustrations are very geometric, focusing more on abstract pattern than subject detail. Each of my pieces tend to take a log time to complete because of the minuteness of my line work, so I have a lot of half-finished projects I’m hoping to get some soon to post on the shop.
Come on by and see what we have to offer on our shop! Currently, Eric has three beautiful pieces up, and I have these two pieces for sale.
More to come soon!

I'm proud to announce our Etsy shop is up and running! More of my artwork will be available as prints in the coming week.

September 26, 2017
We are finally up and running!
At the moment, we only have two of Eric’s illustrations up for sale through the shop. We have other work completed, but the postings are pending until we have a chance to work out some more of the logistics and photo work for the original linocut prints we intend to sell. We also still need to check the printing of K’s work so that we can start the photo work and know if there will be any hitches in the printing.
However! We are very excited to have the shop up at all, and while it is small at the moment, we will surely be able to have the other pieces ready to post by Friday!
So, stop by the shop and check out what we have up for now, and check back to see what we will have up on Friday!

Soon, my illustrations will be available as prints for purchase on Etsy! The latest tests for ink and paper quality yield copies that are just as clear and vibrant as the originals. All good signs as we're working quickly to open the shop next week.
