The time has come once again for me to sacrifice my sanity for tiny baby hermit crabs

Land hermit crabs, like you see in pet stores and in boardwalk shops, are all wild caught. Every single one. In the rare situation that they are well cared for enough to feel comfortable spawning in captivity, the babies are incredibly sensitive and fragile.

I’ve been working with HermitHouse the last 3 years under the guidance of Mary Akers and her team to try to raise my dad’s hermit crab’s babies. These guys are 2 days old in this video, and are 9 days old as of today! They’re doing really well this year and I’m hopeful!

I’d also like to use this opportunity to tag @mossworm as I know they like little shrimpy lookin guys and deserve to look at something nice after fighting the good fight against iDigBio’s AI chatbot sludge. June's Pal of the Month is the Large Blue, a butterfly from Europe with the distinction of being carnivorous as a caterpillar! It was declared extinct in Great Britain in 1979, but a successful reintroduction program has helped their numbers reestablish!

Really happy with how much my art has improved even just over the last few years. Not to say the left ones are bad, but the right ones just feel right.

I haven’t had too much to share from my new pet sitting job, mostly because they’re all pretty normal dogs and cats with the expected amount of goofiness, depending on whether the owners are good or not.

But today I got to experience the Piss Table, which is, as I hope the name implies, a table with pee pads around the center post so the dog can piss on it.

Certainly goes to the top of the list of most unexpected things I’ve seen in people‘s houses

May's Pal of the Month is the Pea Puffer! As the world's smallest puffer, the pea puffer feels most comfortable in groups! They are native to India but are popular pet fish (but be warned! They need specialized care!)

April's Pal of the Month is the Pig-nose Turtle! It is a freshwater turtle with flippers more similar to their saltwater relatives! Their distinctive pig-nose lets them breath from underwater while fully submerged, like a snorkel!

February's Pal of the Month is the Blanket Octopus! Blanket Octopus exhibits one of the most extreme examples of sexual dimorphism: females reach sizes nearly ten times larger than the males! Females use their blanket for intimidation while males and younger females may use detached tentacles of the venomous Portuguese Man o' War as weapons.
