Deze week hebben we een cursus over leider- en ondernemerschap gevolgd. Er zijn verschillende sprekers hun eigen verhaal komen vertellen over wat het ondernemen betekend, hoe ze hun eigen bedrijf hebben opgestart en wat tips zijn voor jonge en beginnende ondernemers. Ze hebben ook laten zien dat het niet altijd goed kan gaan, maar dat het met ups en downs is, dat je kan leren uit je fouten en dat je vooral moet blijven gaan voor je dromen en doelen. Dat je ook zeker niet moet twijfelen om een bedrijfje op te starten maar dat je gewoon moet beginnen.

Elke spreker was anders maar toch waren alle verhalen die ik gehoord heb allemaal heel interessant en ik kan toch ook wel zeggen dat ze inspirerend waren.

Met dat de cursus gisteren is afgelopen, is het vandaag ook ineens onze laatste stagedag. Ik kan maar niet stoppen met te zeggen hoe snel die 3 weken wel niet zijn gegaan! Ik heb van alle momenten één voor één heel hard genoten en ik ben er zeker van dat ik deze ervaring nooit ga vergeten. 3 weken en een hele grote ervaring verder stappen we morgen terug op het vliegtuig richting ons Belgenlandje.

Week 2, what a week!

Working, eating, visiting some beaches and admiring some street art, we did it all!

I started my week at work with the inventory, as you might have already seen in my previous blog. I followed along with Iveta for some meetings and I continued analysing the UA. After work we made dinner and had some drinks on our terrace, really cozy.

In the weekend we visited different beaches. And when I say some, I mean a lot, we visited: Baby Beach, Mangel Halto, Boca Catalina Beach, Tres Trapi and Grapefield Beach in just one weekend. Before we did that, we went to the store to get a snorkel because we heard that you can see beautiful fishes here in Aruba and that is absolutely true!

In San Nicolas you can see street art, so we thought that it would be nice to walk around. During our walk, we didn’t only see art work and paintings. We were almost done with our walk, when suddenly some goats were wandering around in the bushes. We walked further and just a couple of minutes later we see the goats again, running down the street.

The food we had this weekend was amazing, Saturday night we went to an Italian restaurant and I had penne with mozzarella and tomato sauce, I really enjoyed it! On Sunday night we went back to the Zeerovers and once again, it was amazing! Just like the food, the view couldn’t be any better!

This week I’ve been checking the inventory together with Cheryl. This has really been something for me because I’m walking around te whole time, going from classrooms to offices and from offices to aula’s. It’s a great way to explore the University and work at the same time! The time flies by when we’re doing the inventory, we’ve done it for about 1-3 hours a day this week and it always just feels like 30 minutes!

Week 1 in Aruba! Here you have a little overview :)

As you can see we’ve already done lots of fun things in just one week. With 2 weeks left I’m really curious about what we’re going to do more. A lot of beautiful places keep surprising us every day!

It’s all about the balance

Today I started my day by reading de Annual Report 2021 of the UA and talking with Iveta about what they do at the Finance department.

After work we went to SurfSide to have some food and drinks, the pizza we had was as lovely as our evening. We watched the sunset and even saw some planes landing. (The landing strip was right behind us)

Hier ben ik weer!

Deze middag zijn we naar Oranjestad gewandeld om iets te zoeken om te eten, veel kleurtjes in Oranjestad zoals je op de foto’s kan zien. Na de middag is het tijd om verder te werken en ook wat tijd te steken in mijn GP.

Welcome in Aruba!

We have been here for 4 days so I thought that it was time for my first blog in Aruba.

Our first couple of days have been a lot of fun! We have been to different beaches, we walked all the way to the top of the Hooiberg and today was our first day at work.

Here at the University of Aruba Sueyenne taught me how the accounting works here and they also ran me through the accounting and financial system. They get a booking done in a little minute with the system!

Blue Village, the place where we will be staying. I think it’s something you can compare with Sunparks back home in Belgium. The temperatures in Aruba can go from 20 degrees up to 40 degrees, so I think that the swimming pool wil come in very handy.

Hello there

It’s almost there, our Arubian adventure wil start in about a week from now and I’m very exited! I will be there for an internship, which I will do in the University of Aruba. I’m looking forward to getting to know al the people over there and learn some new things. 

On my blog you guys will see work related things as well as the things we do after work-hours or in the week-end.
