This blog is built upon and relies heavily on the myth of Freyja-as-Gullveig and her role in the war between two tribes of gods, as recorded in Völuspá (I’ll be using the Bellows translation).
The war I remember, the first in the world, When the gods with spears had smitten Gollveig, And in the hall of Hor had burned her, Three times burned, and three times born, Oft and again, yet ever she lives. Heith they named her who sought their home The wide-seeing witch, in magic wise; Minds she bewitched that were moved by her magic, To evil women a joy she was.
Now, I also heavily relate this story to that of Mythal and Flemeth, both regarding the three deaths (Mythal’s, Flemeth’s at the hands of the Hero, and again with Solas.). There’s also a correlation in the reputation Flemeth and her daughters have throughout Thedas.
Beyond that, there’s a recurring theme of duality in this world, and so I write Ashavise as Mythal’s “evil” counterpart.
In Asha’s case (or Filduine, as her name was then), the first “death” (which are actually times she was/felt heavily wronged) is the loss of her children in the war they waged, the one which led to their rise to power. She disappeared for centuries after, grieving, and along the way came to blame the gods specifically for her loss.
The second, concurrent to the first, is the exile of Miolvun’s mother, and Miraen’s subsequent mistreatment. It was a long time ago that we discussed them, but I still think they were close friends
I also hold that while Elvhenan grew, she formed not necessarily close bonds, but alliances with others who were alienated from the new power structure. Whether or not these individuals were part of the group exiled after the war, I’m leaving purposely vague.
The third, then, is also vague, and based on a line from this codex: I AM GELDAURAN, AND I REFUSE THOSE WHO WOULD EXERT WILL UPON ME.
I headcanon that the gods, or someone loyal to them, attempted to bring Geldauran into their service, or otherwise attempted to bind him, and by doing so, overextended their reach. Whatever the specifics, it cemented her desire to see them crushed, along with everything they had touched, and that includes the people serving them.

Do you believe there is anything Asha could or would do to redeem herself? Is there a scenario in which she might feel such redemption is necessary, and would she pursue it?
@theshirallen
Do you believe there is anything Asha could or would do to redeem herself?
Not as things stand. Her story, as I’ve developed it, has her betrayed by the Evanuris three times, in different ways. Her grief is the driving force behind nearly everything she does.
The first is the loss of her children in the war they waged, the one which led to their rise to power. She disappeared for centuries after, grieving, and along the way came to blame the gods specifically for her loss.
The second, concurrent to the first, is the exile of Miolvun’s mother. It was a long time ago that we discussed them, but I still hold they were close friends.
I hc that the gods, or someone loyal to them, attempted to bring Geldauran into their service, or otherwise attempted to bind him, and by doing so, overextended their reach. Whatever the specifics, it cemented her desire to see them crushed, along with everything they had touched, and that includes the people serving them.
So, to the next question:
Is there a scenario in which she might feel such redemption is necessary, and would she pursue it?
I think any such scenario would likely involve reconnecting with Mio, who’s one of the only people she knew before the war (even if they were a child). But the specifics of that, if you’re interested (I certainly am), would have to be discussed.

HAMILTON : AN AMERICAN MUSICAL → STARTERS
❛ he was longing for something to be a part of. ❜
❛ and the world is gonna know your name. ❜
❛ there’s a million things i haven’t done, but just you wait. ❜
❛ you never learned to take your time. ❜
❛ talk less…smile more. ❜
❛ who’s the best? c’est moi! ❜
❛ the plan is to fan this spark into a flame. ❜
❛ i’m not throwing away my shot. ❜
❛ i may not live to see our glory, but i will gladly join the fight ! ❜
❛ they’ll tell the story of tonight. ❜
❛ shh, i know, i know. ❜
❛ tomorrow there’ll be more of us. ❜
❛ i’m looking for a mind at work. ❜
❛ look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. ❜
❛ oh my god. tear this dude apart. ❜
❛ i will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love… ❜
❛ dying is easy, young man… living is harder. ❜
❛ then you walked in and my heart went ‘boom’! ❜
❛ you look at me and suddenly i’m helpless. ❜
❛ i am so into you. ❜
❛ i’m just saying if you really loved me, you would share him. ❜
❛ love doesn’t discriminate from the sinners and the saints. ❜
❛ i’m willing to wait for it. ❜
❛ i am the one thing in life i can control. ❜
❛ call me son one more time —…. ❜
❛ i don’t pretend to know the challenges you’re facing. ❜
❛ that would be enough. ❜
❛ and we could be enough. ❜
❛ let me a part of the narrative in the story they will write one day. ❜
❛ you have no control : who lives, who dies, who tells your story. ❜
❛ history has its eyes on you. ❜
❛ awesome. wow. ❜
❛ i’ll make the world safe and sound for you. ❜
❛ why do you assume you’re the smartest in the room? ❜
❛ what’d i miss? ❜
❛ run away with us for the summer. ❜
❛ take a break. ❜
❛ well, hate the sin, love the sinner. ❜
❛ no one else was in the room where it happened. ❜
❛ and then we’ll teach them how to say goodbye. ❜
❛ we both know what we know. ❜
❛ i will choose her happiness over mine every time. ❜
❛ god, i hope you’re satisfied. ❜
❛ i saved every letter you wrote me. ❜
❛ you built me palaces out of paragraphs. ❜
❛ be careful with that one, love, he will do what it takes to survive. ❜
❛ when you were mine, the world seemed to burn. ❜
❛ the world has no right to my heart. ❜
❛ i hope that you burn. ❜
❛ everything is legal in new jersey… ❜
❛ i’m so sorry for forgetting what you taught me. ❜
❛ it’s quiet uptown. ❜
❛ they are trying to do the unimaginable. ❜
❛ there are moments that the words don’t reach. ❜
❛ forgiveness. can you imagine? ❜
❛ i had only one thought before the slaughter. ❜
❛ i imagine death so much, it feels more like a memory. ❜
❛ what is a legacy? it’s planting seeds in a garden you will never see. ❜
❛ death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints. ❜
❛ i survived, but i paid for it. ❜
❛ have i done enough? will they tell my story? ❜

small but important Asha things:
her opposition of the Evanuris should not be taken to mean that she was any less terrible than any of them. she believed wholeheartedly in her own divinity by the end, and let her (once-justified) hatred of them become utter apathy for elves living under their rule
to make the above more clear: she considered everything they touched to be corrupt, and would have utterly destroyed it all. temples, homes, shops, and most of all, people.
so, uh. be really really glad she’s not physically around anymore. I still haven’t decided if she survived the creation of the Veil or not. We’ll see.

In the interest of making my canon flexible, I’m leaving the event(s) that led to Asha…for lack of a better phrase, lose it with the Evanuris undetermined. I have ideas, sure, but that’s all they are.
any of her three children (whose fates are unknown, but she believes them dead) could have been harmed
similarly, something may have been done to Geldauran, which I suspect did, considering this infamous codex. Declarations like that aren’t just made without some catalyst.
also a possibility is that Asha herself felt wronged. Whether this is true (and the extent of it) or the result of centuries of growing paranoia remains to be seen.

ashavise:
Ashavise was known to take in those fleeing Elvhenan for whatever reason (likely losing favor with their patron), so long as she was accepted as sovereign
For the above reason (among others), one of her epithets was ‘Mother of outlaws’’
I don’t see her as being completely cut off from the empire - she would likely still appear at times, unannounced and seemingly at random to put herself in a position of strength. This would happen frequently enough to remind the Evanuris of her existence, but not so often as to cause them to become overly irritated, or her disgust for them to grow why did I write that,
random headcanons while I’m still awake
