Sunrise Through The Fog - Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles California
Sunrise is always so peaceful. While most are still are asleep, nature is brought to life as the light spreads over the horizon. This here is one of the most memorable sunrises I’ve ever witnessed. A family of deer greeted us when we arrived, no other souls in sight, and the light fog laid so softly over the layers of mountains diffusing the light and creating almost edible color!

6th Street Bridge Farewell - Set 1
A celebration was called before the closing of Los Angeles landmark, the 6th Street Bridge. The night started out with old fashion cars and motorcycles posing for the community gathered under the arches. The night took a turn when the cops showed up. See some additional images in set 2.

Rolling Hills Wind Farm, Massena Iowa
The next stop on #ourwindyroadtrip with AWEA is the beautiful Rolling Hills Wind Farm housing 193 turbines across 3 counties. I was fascinated to learn that nearly half of Iowa will be powered by wind by 2020. Businesses such as Google, Facebook, and Microsoft are expanding their data centers to Iowa for reliable, low-cost electricity powered by wind. They’re partnering with utilities leaders, such as MidAmerica Energy, to increase renewable wind power infrastructure. Local businesses are seeing a significant increase in sales as these workers arrive.

Blue Creek Wind Farm, Van Wert, Ohio
The third stop on #ourwindyroadtrip with AWEA took us to a stormy Blue Creek Wind Farm in Van Wert Ohio. On our tour of the 152-turbine farm, one employee told us that he got a degree from Wind School to become a mechanic. I was totally unaware of the education offered in this industry. From what we hear, more states are moving toward this form of renewable energy to power their communities. It’s great to see the contribution to the job industry with the introduction of these facilities!

Patton Wind Farm, Cambria County, PA
The second stop on #ourwindyroadtrip with AWEA (American Wind Energy Association) is Patton Wind Farm, operating 15 30MW Gamesa turbines since 2012. Many of the parts that construct these turbines are manufactured in Pennsylvania itself. Each turbine is tracked through a central management system recording detailed information such as wind speed, weather conditions, and potential technical issues.
What’s really impressive is that each year, Patton Wind Farm’s renewable energy offsets approximately 50,000 tons of CO2 all while generating enough energy to power 7,000 households.
In addition to the environmental benefits, what many don’t realize is that the local townships receive significant financial benefits from facilities like Patton. Over the life of the project, they’ve given back over $2 million to the state, local townships, and school districts. Another $2.3 million in local goods and services for operation and maintenance.
Patton is sure to have a great future with it’s well trained, dedicated and safety-oriented staff, as well as contributions to the local community, and environmental improvements.
