I’m...not sure how this is supposed to get to you. I'm not even sure why I'm writing this. You died. You've been dead for months.

I’m probably the only person in the world who would write a letter to a dead man. And yet, I’m still doing it. Here’s to hoping some spirit-magic-or-whatever-the-eff somehow sends this your way.

Matt and I are okay- mostly. We stayed together, and we got out (along with Berwald and Tiina, long story), but we’re still stuck in the Earth Kingdom for the time being. We’re trying to make the most of it, but it’s not always easy, for obvious reasons. We’re headed North- can’t say where, just in case this ends up in the wrong hands, but you know me. You could probably guess. I still need to get a bit fixed up, and since you and Dad are gone...yeah.

I think I know why you left home. You were looking for Matt, weren’t you? For us. Why'd you have to go and do that? Why didn't you stay home- stay safe?

I know you couldn't. I know it's not like you. I know you'd never be able to stay home if you thought we were in danger. I get it. I probably would have done the same thing but… I wish you hadn't. Maybe you'd still be around, that way. But you did. It killed you.

And, you missed, by the way- by half the continent. What, like- five times? Good job. 

You probably helped a lot of people. People like us. I know. But it doesn’t make the fact that you’re dead hurt any less.

We miss you. A lot. Everyday. I think you kind of broke Matt. He’s pushing through, but he hasn’t really been the same. Then again, neither have I.

I miss you, Lukas.

Hope the afterlife is treating you well. Maybe it's kind of lonely, so I made you Owl to keep you company.

What are you gonna do now that you're in... the Earth Kingdom?

“I still have some family up there- we can get fixed up and lie low, at least for a while. Only problem is it means traveling through the entire Earth Kingdom just to get there.”

It feels like Matthias wasn't really suited for the rank of captain- how the hell did he pull /that/ off?

The same way anyone else gets a Rank in the military. He earned it.

There WAS a time people didn’t like him in his new rank. Didn’t last long though.

Who all are you with?

Allan: “Matt’s a close friend. I’ve known him about as long as I’ve known his brother, Lukas, so it’s been a pretty long road. We were in the Fire Nation military together- he’s my Captain. We fought side by side when the war started.”

Allan: “Ber’s one of Matt’s best friends, since military school, so he’s in the military, too. He’s a pretty quiet guy. He might look kind of scary, sometimes, but he’s not, really…I think. It can be hard to tell. 

And that’s Tiina- she was a Dai Li guard on the prison ship we broke out of. Somehow, she and Berwald fell in love. I don’t pretend to understand how that happened- but I’m glad it did. She…gave up everything to help us. I don’t think we’d be here without her help.”

Allan: “Okay, but I did also fight some of the guards. And the riot worked.”

Allan: “To answer your other question- we’re all mostly okay! A little banged up, but you can’t exactly break out of a prison ship without getting a little hurt.”

Allan: “We spent a few days on Kyoshi Island after our…landing. The Kyoshi Warriors were not particularly happy to find us, but they patched us up and gave us supplies before sending us on our way.”

Allan: “We just hit the Earth Kingdom mainland. Now we’re headed up north.”
