It’s my special day, once again! Everyone will spend the day celebrating me, the magical cupid of ice! Being on a quest in Avalon wasn’t what i was expecting for my birthday this year, but my friends made me feel like royalty~ I was able to wear a special princess dress today and I've never felt so beautiful! Avalon sure is a whimsical place... it must have been fate that brought the magical cupid of ice here on her birthday! I sure am lucky to be able to celebrate with my friends in a world I've never dreamed i would be in~

The harsh smell of alcohol andunkempt vagrants flooded Maria’s senses as she crept through the pub door. Shegrimaced as a drunken man attempted to grab at her and watched as he stumbledlike a newborn deer around the tables of patrons. She hastily made her way tothe back, catching one of her partner’s eyes. A sly smile spread across theyoung crook’s face as she silently took her place at the table, surrounded byher supposed friends. I may work withthese people, but I trust them as much as I trust the police. Maria thought.The man who’d raised her, the head of the gang, taught her as a child that noteven her closest friends can be trusted. She sat silently and observed everyoneat the table, some drinking and some smoking. The acrid smell of tobacco urged Mariato pull out her pack and light a cigarette. She puffed out and was pulled intoa conversation. “Maria!”

The name caught her off guard, shewas in her own small bubble of composure. “What, Vannie?” She directed herattention to the wiry man with the face like a rat with one eyebrow raised. Hegave her a toothy grin and she held back a grimace as she saw his yellowingteeth. “Frankie and Alice just stole some papers from the pigs.” He lookedaround the dingy pub, despite the raucous sounds making it practicallyimpossible to hear him. “We’re breakin’ our buddy out tonight.” Maria’s eyeswidened in disbelief. “Are you crazy? Walter’s in the high security. There’s noway in hell we can bust him out without getting caught ourselves.” She sneered,lighting a fresh cigarette. “Consider this yourproblem.” Vannie softened up, giving her doe eyes. “Maria, baby, come on. Youknow how much of a sneak I can be and with your brains we’d never get caught.”She glared at him, puffing smoke into his face as the word “baby” rolled offhis sly tongue. “Don’t call me your baby,asshole. I’m not up for this.”

Maria started to get up when he grabbed herwrist. All of the games were done being played and there was an intimidatinglook in his dirty eyes. “Listen to me, Maria. You aren’t the only rat in thissewer of a pub who’s shot me down. You’re my last hope to bustin’ Walter out.”Frustration fizzled in her chest and she plastered on a fake smile. Mariarested her hand on his, making the daft man’s grip loosen. She ripped Vannie’sdirty, calloused hand and scraped it against the table. He grunted in pain andMaria leaned into his face with her still lit cigarette. “Listen, you filthyscrounger. Do you know what they’ll do to me in prison? I’ll be a vixen caughtin a fox trap. I’m too pretty to head there yet.” She blew a final puff ofsmoke into his face, making him cough. “Catch me in hell before prison, baby.” Maria snapped one of his fingersback before stalking out of the pub, into the moonlit street.

 Dear Mom and Dad,

Hey, it’s Donna! I don’t really know how to put this, this isn’t how I was expecting to spend my first week of school. Well, I’m sure you’ve seen the wanted posters already. Look, I’m not even sure if this will reach you, but if it does, I’m alright.

Well no, I’m not going to lie. Honestly, I’m terrified, I don’t know what's next. I can’t say where I am for obvious reasons, but I’m safe for the time being. I don’t expect a letter back, but, I just want you to know that I’m not part of this. I’m not a criminal! I swear. I just got dragged into my ‘associate’s’ game. I think you know of her as well, she’s the diviner that came into the shop a few weeks ago. I’d explain it all now, but..well it’s complicated. I have to go now, apparently it’s urgent. Just know I miss you both dearly, I only hope I’ll get to see you again.

The thief’s eyes observed her friend’s faces with anindescribable longing. A longing for them to understand. “Please believe me, I didn’tmean to hurt anyone.” Brynn’s mind jumped about as it searched for a way toexplain her motives when she committed the most infamous crime in Marleybone. “Iwasn’t told who to be or how to grow up, I had to choose for myself like anadult. But I wasn’t.” Brynn gulped silently as Donna’s eyes narrowed, as if tojudge her harder than she already was. Brynn struggled to find her words as theexposed feeling ate at her instincts. “I wanted to belong. Feel like I was part of a group, a family.” The fairskinned girl looked at her fiddling fingers and let out a quiet sigh. “I’msorry for dragging you all into this, but I’d like some assistance from you allas well.” Brynn mumbled as she fidgeted. “I want all of you to help meexperience everything your lives alwayshad to offer. Donna.”

She looked the young blacksmith inthe eyes, tension crackling between them. “Please forgive me. I know currentlyI am not your favorite in this group, but I want to assist you all with…whatever you guys are doing.” Donna raised an eyebrow quizzically, not seemingto believe that Brynn of all peopleis apologizing to her. “You too Brecken. And Nora.” I’m not exactly sure what Nora’s doing right now, but I hope a part ofit is listening to me. Brynn thought as she watched the sorcerer point atthe ground with enthusiasm. “As strange as some of you are,” The divinercontinued without Nora’s attention, “I care for you all immensely.” Breckenpractically got stars in her eyes as she heard the word “care” from Brynn. “Aww,Brynn!” She squealed. “We care about you too! So much! Especially me!” Donnaglanced at Brecken as she giggled and replied with a stern, “I care about youas well, Brynn.” No matter how firm Donna could be with Brynn, everyone coulddetect the fondness under her tone. Brynn let out a relieved sigh and smiled. “Thanksfor hearing me out.”
