Day Twenty-Five: Bir- Fishstrike

“Tower, I think I just hit a fish?” “You hit a what?”

I wanted to take this opportunity to showcase one of my favorite aviation stories: The Alaska Airlines Fish Strike, in which an Alaska Airlines 737-200 flying from Juneau, Alaska to Seattle, Washington was hit by a fish shortly after takeoff and had to land in Yakutat, Alaska for inspection. 

A bald eagle having recently caught a fish, presumed to be trout by the scales found on the aircraft, was startled/frightened into dropping its recently caught meal. The fish impacted the aircraft just behind the cockpit. 

Aircraft, crew, passengers, and eagle were unharmed. Nothing further is known about the unfortunate fish involved in the incident.
