okay okay ford letting stan take off his glasses as a sign of trust.

ford keeps them on at all times. he will even fall asleep wearing them, as thats a relic of his past and his need to always be prepared and ready to fight for survival.

Stancest where Ford for the first couple of months thinks Stanley is perfectly straight (he mentioned his ex-wife once), only to be completely taken by surprise to see Stan flirting with a guy at the bar they decided to visit.

Now Ford just needs to figure out if Stan would be weirded out by dating him or nah, which takes a couple of months and many, many embarrassing situations (on Ford's side mostly, but a couple on Stan's too).

Okay but hear me out,

60!Stanley actively encouraging young Stan into just going for that fwb thing because 'hey, you're a fine, mostly healthy young man with libido, OF COURSE you wanna get some action, go for it tiger', because young Ford being insanely jealous over Stan is the best TV show ever since he watched The Duchess Approves, the yearning, the miscommunication, all the good stuff (and since this time it's not Stanley being stuck in a frustrating relationship that only ever seemed going one way and not both ways, he can certainly appreciate the 'plot' as the kids say these future days), and Stanley is just waiting for when Ford finally goes too far and Stan finally snaps at him for never considering Stan's feelings or always taking him for granted (which, fair's fair, Stanley's been there, done that, and all he got outta it is memory problems all because his Stanford couldn't get over himself until the last possible moment, and by then it was too late and the memory gun was loaded), and then and only then he's gonna sic Stanford into resolving the situation, or at least giving Ford a fucking hint.

Stanford: But—but why me? Surely you would—

Stanley: Nuhuh, nada, this mess started with you and it will end with you.

Stanford: But I was literally just standing here??? How is it my fault???

Stanley: Because you were once this oblivious kid living in a bubble of his own making and not me, so now get your ass in the gear and get Ford to figure it out, smartass.

And now Stanley is just basically sitting with the popcorn and cola and wonders just how Stanford will tackle the problem, will it be disastrous, or actually helpful for Ford? He's got no motherfucking idea, but in the meanwhile he's gonna flame the fires of Ford's jealousy by asking Stan about his 'new boyfriend' in detail within both Fords earshot, and telling Stan about his own wild 30s and the people he's banged (because he also was once that fine, mostly healthy young man with libido).

Consider for your 80s with the oldies au since you mentioned young stan feeling neglected: young stanley ends up charming someone at the biker bar (he does canonically have a thing for them) while he goes out to help restock/run errands/whatev. He splits his time btwn helping out w/ young Ford + getting back to their universe and spending time with whoever even tho he knows its not gonna last, but he wouldn’t mind a quick fwb thing just to get his mind off of how his brother would rather fuck an older alt vers of him than the one he grew up with.

young Ford, the hypocrite, when he realizes this gets pissed tf off. who does Stanley think he is, whoring himself out like that to some rando? (Older Ford is encouraging this hypocrisy if only to keep young Ford away from older Stanley. Older Stan thinks the entire thing is hilarious.)

Young Stan probably didn’t even mean to start something with a biker at the local bar, he probably went in for a sad drink by himself and someone came up to him. I mean who could resist a sad man with a mullet?

Young Ford starts to wonder why young Stan is out longer and longer. I’d think current Stan would be the one to find out and tell everyone. Because well, come on Stan thinks the whole thing is funny and he really wants the two to get together.

“Why isn’t Stanley back from the store?”

“haha the kids probably at the bar getting up with that biker he’s been seeing.”

“WHAT”

Young Ford is unreasonably mad, and young Stan doesn’t understand why. It’s not like it’s anything serious… Young Ford probably doesn’t even realize why he’s so upset.

Current Ford is exasperated by this whole ordeal but choose to let young Ford figure out his emotions. Even though current Ford still gets jealous, at least take it out on anyone like young Ford (well except during sex but that’s what makes it fun)
