“We think we must have got him mixed in with the produce and sold him off as a grapefruit”
I’ve been spending all week thinking about @writerkatsblog ‘s headcanon about Chase coming from a farming family and being sold to the Xiaolin Temple and the implications that has for ‘Omi Town’.
Do you think Hannibal knew about Chase’s past? Do you think he built Omi Town and Omi’s fake backstory around Chase’s own history? Do you think he was mocking Chase here too?
Anyway. I made myself sad this week with thoughts of baby Chase.

#he probably still steals it#still makes it seem like a joke or light teasing#but there is genuine resentment in his actions now
There are times when Guan dons some regular temple robes and puts on his hat and sits underneath the shade of Dashi's statue. He folds his arms behind his head, leans back, closes his eyes, and (pretends to) nap
The first time Chase came across this scene, a flash of anger negative emotion ran through him that he couldn't place. Anger? Resentment? Sadness?
It was exhausting to even think about
So he just closed his eyes and sat in the shade of Dashi's statue's hat as well, in that same lazy pose, even mimicking the way Dashi used to snore sometimes
The three of them sat there for about in silence for a while, pretending to be too asleep to notice each other's presence
Halfway through, Chase steals the hat off Guan's head and puts it on his own, tipped to hide his face. Guan's the first to leave the scene, but Chase leaves the hat behind when he actually does leave later

The dǒulì is a Guan-and-Dashi thing in my mind
Like, a habit Guan picked up because of Dashi, either consciously or subconsciously
Right down to Guan making sure that his statue of Dashi includes the hat, even though Dashi seemed like he only wore it when he was trying to be off duty as a monk

During the earlier parts of the 1500 years, Chase has a habit of flicking the hat or stealing it and playfully teasing that it's hard to get a proper look at Guan's face when he's hiding under there like Dashi used to
Guan replies that he has no interest in seeing the stolen face of his former best friend that the monster wore, and says that the mask he wore made it hard for anyone to get a look at any face of the monster's. Then again, the monster's true face was no easier to look at either

Which of the fallen warriors do you guys think is the most ready to pounce and the most annoyed when they get called off for honorable deals?
My first thought was the Úlfhéðinn, but considering certain legends, I might actually think the Black Knight. He was already a villain before Chase recruited him (in most of his legends, I think?). Despite being a knight I don't know if he fucks heavy with Chase's whole honor thing.

@grasshopperdoingdogpaddle do you think Chase’s fallen Warriors ever get annoyed with his whole ‘honor’ thing? Or do you think he is selective enough when choosing them that they all hold the same views of ‘honor’ as he does? Because they seemed pretty ready to go after the kids even knowing the deal Chase had made.
(Most of them: But it’s Guan. you said we were always allowed to give him hell after your fights!)

#I imagine Dashi taught Guan to make one after he started partially shaving his hair into his queue#because unlike Chase he no longer had that protection from the sun#best to wear a hat to prevent those sun burns!!#and to prevent villagers from recognizing you#I am not imagining the the hat on Dashi statue is also partially used in that fashion#placed just right so that unless you got close you wouldn’t realize it was Dashi
After Chase leaves, Guan shaves off his queue, saying that it's not worth the effort of taking care of his long hair on his own, and wanting to distance himself from the memory of himself and Chase helping each other with their hair. Guan's expression is downturned and bitter.
That shaky expression is suddenly hidden in the shadows when a hat is placed on Guan's head.
Dashi gives him a pained smile and apologizes for not really being much help with the hair stuff, but he says that since Guan's joining the cueball club, he's going to need one of these. Great defense against the weather. Keeps him from getting burned up in the sun! And relatively good in the rain too.
Guan tugs down the front of the hat to hide a tear falling down his cheek, and mumbles his agreement that yes, it is quite useful in the rain.
Dashi pats Guan's back and says that it's also great for laying low when you don't really feel like being yourself at the moment. Or, not, not-being-yourself, just not being... "you". You know, all... this, the you that they have to be sometimes... Blah. Dashi waves his arms and says that Guan gets what he means, Guan's the fancy schmancy one who's best with his words.
Guan thanks Dashi and says he'll make sure to get him a hat to replace the one Dashi is giving to him.
And when Guan erects that statue at his own temple, years later, he makes sure to angle the hat just right, and place the statue just innocuously enough. "Good for the sun and the rain, right, Dashi?"

Incorrect quote? Nah this is just a canon conversation
Chase: I made dinner. Dojo, suspicious: What did you do to it? Chase: Nothing. Unless you count whispering “die slowly” to each vegetable as I chopped them. Dojo: … Chase: Bon appetite.
