WMSU-SHS STORIES: SIGNIFICANCE OF MIL AS A SUBJECT
Communication has, somehow, become a need for every person. No one can live without talking, texting, and chatting someone for a long time. However, communication, since the past times, has evolved. The simple thing of talking to one another, for me, through the years has begun to change. However with the subject Media and Information Literacy, we are able to cope up with these changes. This subject gave us the knowledge on how to effectively communicate, which was not simple as how I thought before taking this subject, and taking into consideration a lot of things, most especially the communication barriers, such as the “noise”.

Currently, the world is in the digital age. The internet as we know it is a like a superhighway, where in once you venture within and go deeper and deeper, it also becomes more and more dangerous. However, MIL has contributed to the improvement of our critical thinking skills, in order to keep us safe. Being able to spot a fake from an authentic news is a vital skill, especially when you are one who uses the internet regularly. You do not get fooled easily and would not, in return, fool another person after sharing the fake news. Being able to be protected by your knowledge is really a great feeling, which emphasizes that knowledge truly is power.
In a way, MIL could also help people who are planning to take Business Ad in college, or even the ones planning to establish a business themselves. Here, we learned how to effectively advertise your product and at the same time be a public relation officer of it. The system of marketing itself was also taught which is really essential not only the aforementioned people, but even to everyone. We now have a little bit of knowledge that may raise the chances of our product or service become in-demand in the market.
Lastly, MIL has taught us that there are laws of this country that protect the people who were attacked verbally and those bullied in the internet. Learning about these various laws, Cybercrime and Defamation Law, becomes, as well, a shield for us. I never read the Philippine constitution, this is why without MIL I would never have crafted an armor and a sword against cyber bullying and defamatory acts.
Overall, for the past four months, MIL taught me a lot of things. Yes, it was one of the most stressful subjects, but nevertheless, the sleepless nights were worth it, as I have learned a lot of things and improved a lot of my skills.

WMSU SHS-STORIES: Who inspires you in life?

I mean, where should I even start, haha. Our parents, except God, are the very reason why we were born. Without them, we could have never hoped to enjoy the miserable and mischievous yet jovial and thrilling series of events called life.
From the moment I was a zygote, my Inah already started taking care of me, carrying me for 9 months, also, almost only consuming food and doing things beneficial to me. Then the moment I was born, she has continued to carry me til I could walk. Because of her, I have to say, housewives have the most tiring jobs, when speaking of quantity, especially with the line-up of me and my stubborn siblings. She wakes us up early, and prepares our breakfast even earlier and also stays up late to prepare our school uniforms for tomorrow’s class, asks how we are doing in school, if our grades are fine, if there is any problem we would like to be helped and many many more all the while training us to be independent. A one of a kind, versatile, all-around and hardworking mother is what my Inah is.
My Amah, on the other hand, was the one responsible for taking care of my Inah as she was busy taking care of the one in her womb. Working hard in order to sustain our everyday needs and not complaining despite our endless demands. Being a policeman especially in the protection group, a group of policemen whose main duty is to guard and escort VIPs such as politicians, even the president himself; visitors, especially international guests; and other important people, is very dangerous (although being a policeman is already quite dangerous). They are highly susceptible to various assassination attempts, yet my Amah continues this very risky work as it is for his family. Putting one’s life on the line for the sake of other people, wow, haha, honestly, he’s like a real-life superhero, or at least that’s how I see him.
They held me before I could walk, listened to me before I could even talk, taught me a lot of things no one could ever have. Of course we encounter some problems but after all this is what makes a family stronger, overcoming problems that is. My parents have just done a lot of great things for me and my siblings. Being able to repay them even just a little is one of my biggest dreams in life, a dream way bigger than having my own family. The idea of me being successful to, someday, repay them even a bit is what drives me and inspires me to do my best at all times and, therefore, fulfill my ambitions in the future.Â

WMSU-SHS STORIES: Why do we celebrate Buwan ng Wika?
The Philippines is an archipelago, a country made up of islands, separate islands. Yes we can say that we can connect these separate islands by building bridges. But the thing is, building bridges only connects the land areas, not the people, themselves, especially if the islands amount to more than 7000. This is where language plays its part. Language is considered to connect people of different culture, race, and etc. Having a common language makes its possible to communicate, being able to communicate results to being able to have a connection with each other. It is possible to have a connection with each other even in a country as culturally-diverse and as big an archipelago as the Philippines.
The national language of a country also serves as its people's identity. A culturally and racially-diverse country such as the Philippines is a good example. Even if there are different Filipinos who have different physical features such as the Aetas, Mestisos, Fil-Am, Filipino-Chinese and etc. we can still be identified through our language. That people from other country would definitely be able to say, "Oh this one's a Filipino."
Language, the Filipino language specifically, is so powerful that it was able to unify more than 7000 islands on multiple occasions. Â "Punitin ang cedula", a statement in our national language, was what started the katipunan to fight against the Spaniards. It always brings us together especially when we would need to fight for our freedom, such as against the Spaniards, as mentioned earlier, Americans, Japanese, and even the Martial Law when we sang "Bayan Ko".
Filipino speech choir or the Sabayang Pagbigkas, Filipino debates or the Balagtasan, slogan and poster making, essay writing, spoken word poetry, dancing of various folk dances and singing folk songs are just among the things students, like us, perform when celebrating Buwan ng Wika in our schools. Oh and, giving importance to the national language by speaking in Filipino, and Filipino only, at all times, as much as possible, is something everyone must do as we celebrate Buwan ng Wika. In order to be aware of the significance of communicating using our national language, also to preserve the Filipino culture. Especially, now that the English and East Asian languages are popular to most Filipinos, even creating a new language, the "Taglish". Due to the Filipino language helping us even in things we did not expect is, I think, the very reason as to why we celebrate Buwan ng Wika. It is to repay our "Wika" and thank it for all that it has done to us, I mean it's the least thing that we can do.

WMSU-SHS STORIES: The Life of a CSM-STEM Student A year ago, as I entered our classroom fully equipped with things a “diligent” student should have, I told myself, “I bet Senior High School is going to be lots of fun, so I should make many friends to turn this experience into a more enjoyable one”, or so I thought.
We got bombarded by crazy stuffs on all the sides a human being may have. First, there was a demon of numerals who taught us how to get the derivative of a mathematical expression and later teach us how to get its antiderivative to again change the derivative form of the mathematical expression back to its original form. I mean, seriously, why would she teach us how to find something, and then teach us how to change it back to its previous form? Â
Secondly, a “frustrated” dance instructor who tasked us to dance a specific dance without even teaching us how, then later complain, giving us low grades, because we executed the steps incorrectly.
Next was a disaster, saying that we should know everything, for we are “wiser millennials”.
Another one was the 64-slide PowerPoint presentation of a single topic, biomolecules.
There was also the do-it-your-own programming class that we had.
I, also, would not forget the accounting-related topics we had in one of our Mathematics class. I mean, we are enrolled in STEM not in ABM.
Lastly, our physics class of finding vectors and measuring angles in a heptagon-shaped building. I mean, who would even build a heptagon-shaped building in the first place? Or, finding the speed of a car that travels for a certain distance in a specific time. I have nothing against measuring the distance it travelled or the time it took for the car to travel that far, but the speed, with the existence of speedometers, seriously, what’s the use of solving for it?
Fuelling these bizarre stuffs is the temperature of our classroom that greatly exceeds the known average room temperature, and the noise, whether it is inside or outside.
Despite all of these, I still look on the brighter side of things, hoping that I can use these things when I become a doctor in the near future. Perhaps use my enhanced dancing skills to provide entertainment inside the hospital, if it is break time. Maybe get the derivative of my patient’s red blood cells count, or measure the speed at which an ambulance must go from the hospital to the place where a patient is, so that the ambulance would arrive in time and et cetera.
Being in the CSM STEM strand is not a joke, the mental capability needed to cope up with our Mathematics and Science subjects and the versatility that you need in order to keep up with the minors especially PE and Lit. I can say that CSM STEM students are multitalented or rather, they should be, as this is what is required of us, that is, if you want to have good grades.
Even though being a CSM STEM student is very tiring and stressful, as it is Mathematics plus Science -- the two most difficult subjects, as considered by many-- I am still very proud to be one. Not because I like challenges, although I don’t dislike them as well, but because of the friends I was able to make. They helped me and are continuing to help me better my grades, and be the reason for me to get up from my bed and go to school for another 7:00am-5:30pm class. It really is great to be in a class that is cooperating with each other, especially on examinations, rather competing.
