can’t stand to see travis slander on my dash. he’s a quiet sad boy with daddy issues who comes off like a dick until you realize he’s just terrified to speak to women. he cares about his little brother more than anything. he’s doomed by the narrative. he’s dead from the beginning & there is no story where it goes a different way. he’s in love with the scary bad girl who’s only soft for him. he’s a babygirl. he’s the wife that dies at the start of the movie. he is the subject of cannibalistic fantasies for a cult of girls. if you hate travis you hate me

me after watching the show and seeing the travis hate, when i saw him as an emo babygirl who's coping with the death of his dad, now coping the loss of his brother and probably feels even more of an outcast being the only guy in his peer group, never took advantage of that, and he's just generally awkward around girls and doesn't know how to act around them:

the second Coach Scott closes the door he chooses to die. so why does he do it? it could be that he still feels he is somewhat responsible for the lives of these girls, but I don't think that's the case because Laura Lee made it very clear to him and everybody else when she took the plane that he was no longer a coach. there was no hierarchy in the woods that gave him a modicum of authority and he was absolved of responsibility. i also don't believe that he has a superior moral compass, or that he is so much older and wiser that his age makes him see taboo where the others see survival. in some ways it might be a passive suicidality – i'm probably going to die out here anyway let me go on my own terms as a person I can still live with; i am alone with no peer out here – and who could fault him that? but mostly, mostly I think he's not a teenage fucking girl. and i think if Travis hadn't been fresh off the contrived grief over Javi, he would have fallen back too.
be so fucking for real, who knows better how to swallow shame–who knows better how to learn to enjoy the taste of it even–than the teenage girl for whom everything, all the time, is shamed? and you know just blah blah blah eve and the apple, original sin. who has learned to reach for the forbidden fruit, who has learned to savor the unsavory, who doesn't fear the blood, who understands that a woman's body is already hunted like an animal anyway, already made for consumption, already not her own. they don't remove the jacket. that was hers. that was jackie's. but her body? maybe coach scott can't see it from where he's standing ("how did you know?" "you never look at our boobs") and it makes me love him that he can't, but her body was never hers to begin with. but the girls know. they know how to starve first, and then how to be devoured. he doesn't have the stomach for either.

“They really were smitten with each other. You could tell by the looks. He always had his hand on her shoulder, and he called her Baby. They were always disappearing. That was when directors told the company, ‘O.K., take a break, be back in 15.’ But they would disappear into one or another of their dressing rooms, and sometimes 15 minutes ran a little longer. But they’d come out looking very happy! Bogie was more serious [than Bacall]. Betty was pretty giggly — and silly. But she was cute and funny. And Bogie got a little more giggly because of her.” - Joy Barlowe, a Warner’s dancer who appeated in To Have and Have Not
