Social media in race, gender and politics
Social media has created an open world for the consumer to see, hear and speak freely on what he or she thinks. Whether you disagree with something or have an idea on how to solve some complex issues. The internet and the social media platforms are available for people to opinionate, provide ideas and be part of something good. Social media has great influence in today’s topics such as politics, gender, race and equality among other important issues. Social Media and politics go hand in hand. Social media will report what the public inquires and wants to know. Politics will play its role and depict what they want social media to relay to the public. Even though it is supposed to work in a truthful and factual way, it is not always the case. Gender and race have always been issues affecting us, even though it has improved in a major way since let’s say 1950, there is still work to be done to improve in a matter that will work for everyone in order to create a better and equal society. Social media plays a big part in reporting just how much gender role plays in positions of power, for example. Social media can also provide statistics on how race relations have improved or gotten worse in today’s political climate. As a student wanting to become a journalist, there is nothing better than to provide truth and facts to all the information I write or report, no matter how hurtful it can be. It is better to know what is real than to live a world full fantasy or alternative facts.

Human rights, race relations, gender politics, health care, and foreign policy - it's a lot to keep track of, and yet all of these things affect us in our daily lives. Newsrooms are very, very, very white. Incredibly white. Anyone who disagrees with positive discrimination schemes, they just need to look inside the newsroom and see why they’re important. And the whiteness impacts on the coverage.
