rewatched the batman in cinemas on monday and it reminded me of how much i loved this film, so here’s some older works i still like!

There’s poetic justice here, too:

Luka, who only ever took from love, getting the Bad Ending.

Mizi, who both gave to and took from love, getting the Ambiguous Ending

Till, who always gave to and was given love, getting the Good Ending.

“The one who loves the most always loses.”

But is that really the case? Everyone who died for love got exactly what they wanted while everyone who lived had to watch their loved one die.

Love as sacrifice. Love as acceptance. Love as purpose. Love as salvation. Love as irrationality. Love as security.

Sua dying to save Mizi. Mizi letting her so Sua’s death wouldn’t be in vain. Ivan dedicating his entirety to Till. Till being saved by every form of love. Hyuna loving Luka because she can’t stop. Luka using Hyuna as a shelter.

Do you guys think Till even knows, a whole 7 years later, that Ivan loved him romantically? Kisses don’t mean the same thing in ALNST. While Ivan did die for him, Till always found his behavior incomprehensible. Maybe he suspects, but with Ivan dead, he probably just has to accept the fact that he’ll never know for sure.

In a weird way, ALNST had a happier ending than I expected. Their love DID matter. Half of each heart was saved. The rebellion continues on, still saving lives. The cycle never stops, history still repeats…and yet, humans persist.

Till, being the only one to live happily because he was saved by someone who loved him AND someone he loves still lives.
