john gaius’s proven inability to die kind of makes me hope that alecto the ninth has a running gag in which he is killed once a chapter every chapter in increasingly more lunatic and unlikely ways. like a looney tunes episode or a very good timeloop movie. damn fucker just keeps coming back. time to try the ol hanging anvil

Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, Knight Radiant, Order of Truthwatchers
(Pls pls pls click the image for the best resolution, lots of stained glass details)
Symbols + explanations below
This is a crossover between my two favorite archives!! The Magnus and stormlight archives respectively. Do we think Jonathan simms could actually become a knight radiant? Debatable. What’s not debatable is the fact that he would 100000% be a truthwatcher. I’ll die on this hill.
This piece took me like a full week to finish. I was thinking about making this a series (with Daisy as a dust bringer) but I if I use the Gaussian blur tool ever again I will involuntarily and immediately throw my stylus across the room. It’s also my first attempt at drawing armor. I have this vision of designing cool shardplate for various characters but wow armors complicated. I kinda started making this suit up as I went
Symbols from the Magnus Archives:
- The Lighter
-Tape recorder
- Spider Webs
- Eyes
Symbols from the Stormlight Archive:
- Stained glass window like Rlain and Renarin’s visions
- Shard blade and plate
- Glyph of the Truthwatchers along with their respective surge glyphs
- The double Eye of the Almighty
Fun fact about the double eye, it is not in fact an eye with two pupils like I drew. I drew that before actually looking it up, it’s actually this thing:

Which while super cool showing the different radiant orders and their surge connections, does not look anything like an eye. The truthwatcher and bondsmith glyphs are supposed to be the double pupil. Anyways I included two of these, below the recorder and lighters.
I’m super happy with this piece and I hope y’all like it too!!

Incredible video 📹 about discourse within the fandom around s3 dive into more taboo & disturbing sexual themes
As a show fan, I wasn't really aware of the full extent of the character's fixations/traumas/etc. They point out how Antoinette resembles Lestat and is dressed in men's clothes by the season finale, which is clearly an allusion to Lestat's relationship with his mother. I never made that specific connection. I think it'll be very interesting to see how s3 is received.

So much of the way academia has interpreted Dracula pisses me off obviously but one of the ones that gets me the most is the "Jonathan's hair turned white in the castle" one
Like Jack LITERALLY says in the house in Picadilly that Jonathan had dark brown hair yesterday
And when they're all in the Harkers' room after the Baptism of Blood Jack says that he sees Jonathan's hair whitening that very moment
It seems like a small thing to bother me but it actually says a lot I think. Because Jonathan's own troubles, his peril, his temporary madness, none of that scared or stressed him enough to turn his hair white. But when Mina is put in peril, that's what does it. He cares about her wellbeing and safety and happiness far more than his own

anyways i just love the way kpop demon hunters stayed true to its roots in korean/asian culture, especially around the core theme of community vs individualism
the fact that it's not a single chosen one but a group of three
the fact that the honmoon is not powered by the hunters themselves but by the energy and love of the fans
the fact that gwi-ma turns people into demons by promising that he is the only one who can help them when he is in fact reliant on his army of demons to collect souls for him
the fact that "your idol" is about surrendering yourself to a single higher power while "golden" is about soaring to new heights together
the fact that gwi-ma preys on people's individual insecurities and shame to get inside their heads while rumi, mira, and zoey set them free in the end by encouraging them to embrace their differences and reminding them that they're not alone
the fact that you can see the audience cheering individually and even pushing into each other to get closer to the stage during "your idol"
while they're linking arms and cheering together and hugging during "what it feels like"
i have not seen the live action lilo and stitch but it feels like that movie sits on the opposite end of the spectrum from kpop demon hunters as a case study for how to tell a story in way that is culturally authentic and still resonates with a broader audience
and i think given that the core theme of the movie is all about community over individualism, the ending, particularly as it relates to rumi and jinu's budding romance, is really the perfect culmination of that broader theme
rumi and jinu's connection has all the hallmarks of that all-encompassing, all-consuming, borderline co-dependent first love where you keep your relationship a secret and sneak out of the house to meet up and feel like the other person is the ONLY person who really gets you
i'm the only one who can understand you, i'm the only one who will love you is the kind of thing that sounds romantic when you're 16 until you get older and realize how toxic it actually is and i love that the movie counters that in "what it sounds like" with rumi realizing that she had that love and support all along from her girls, and later, from the fans who continue to cheer them on through their comeback
it's about connection and sisterhood and love and sharing your fears and lifting each other up and becoming stronger and better together
and as compelling as i found rumi/jinu and as much as i would like to see their relationship explored more in a sequel/series, i just really love that this movie, which is clearly targeted at young women, ends on the message that romantic love is not the end all be all, that friendship is just as important if not more so than a romantic partner, that single women can lead successful, fulfilling lives, that true happiness and freedom start from within
it's crazy that this message still seems revolutionary in 2025 but given the current state of the world, it feels more necessary than ever

I can't believe this video managed to perfectly articulate my thoughts on protocol at the moment. I haven't exactly been able to put my finger on all of what I think of MAGP, but this really nailed what I've been feeling.

Let me talk to you about "Evocation" by St. Gibson.
Let me tell you about picking up a book and thinking oh we can't possibly be getting polyamory and then not Only getting polyamory but it's Thoughtful and Considerate and Consensual.
Let me tell you about how it feels to have a bisexual main who loves and is fully dedicated to his partner and that does not make him straight nor gay. What it means as a bisexual to have a bisexual main character who feels love and attraction to both genders and is not gay and is not straight and not an open door. To tell you what it feels like that coming out is still a thing... That we don't have it 'easy' just because maybe we happen to end up with someone of an 'acceptable' gender.
Because if half of you isn't acceptable, none of it is.
Let me tell you what it means to have two characters in love in a way that is not sexual in the least. Can I tell you how good it is to see two people indulging in each other's comfort and love in a way that has nothing to do with sex, and being fulfilled?
Can I begin to describe my utter kink for a man who (rightfully) worships the ground his goddess of a wife walks upon?
Let me tell you about how I would take this woman out and treat her RIGHT if some other people didn't wise up because she is everything and I would be so fortunate and graced to sit and sip tea and shop vintage fashion with her.
And how she is flawed because she is human and beautiful, not in spite of it, but as a whole. She is not perfect nor saccharine and she has ambitions and maybe some are for the best and maybe not but she deserves to find that out for herself, and I damn will be supporting her all the way.
To have a relationship that is not perfect but that is real and evolving and that love can exist in so many ways and forms and be just as legitimate and viable.
And there are so many other things in Evocation, and hopefully I didn't spoil anything but God, this book meant so much and I'm so glad @ottersmallpaws and I chose it for the Back Alley Bookclub.

It is fascinating to me that Gideon Nav and Rand al'Thor have exactly opposite reactions to exactly the same core character conflict.
It is hilarious to me that the motif that represents this conflict for both of them is 'being a ginger'.
