  ♘||         “Eye it however you like, It’s just a simple coin.” He said as he flashed both sides to her quickly, spinning it in between his fingers. It was, or seemed to be, a regular coin just as Joshua had stated. Though who’s to say he wouldn’t cheat, even on something so trivial like this.  “Call it in the air:”

          Once the wagers are set, and the coin examined Joshua takes a breath. This is his favorite part. The coin rests gently on top of his thumb, and he flicks it into the air as he had a million times before. It glimmers as it flips once, twice, three times before falling with a ‘tink’ back into the mercenary’s palm. He covered it quickly, as to not reveal the results just yet.

On a few special occasions Joshua had the pleasure of meeting the Princess on the battlefield, she wasn’t someone to be trifled with, at least magically speaking. Perhaps he should use his words wisely. 

          “I’m just surprised they let someone as young as you in the army of all places. You should be playing with your friends in the fields not running an army, or being in one for that matter.”

       She stood up to her full height–which, granted, wasn’t very high at all–and glared at him. “Are you certain it was a dream? I seem to remember it as a nightmare.” She eyed him carefully, taking in every inch of his appearance before continuing. “Aside from that, are you sure you ought to be talking to me in that manner? You seem to be a bit… out of my age group.”

       “Oh, you wound me!” He cried, the back of his hand brushing gently across his forehead. Crimson eyes scanned the room for anything he could grab. How lucky that there was a small pot of flowers on a hallway table just where they had happened to meet. Quickly, like a dancer, he twirled to grab one lily out of the vase and with another graceful motion he presented it to the lady in front of him. 

            “I’m Joshua. What may I call you?”

Coming up behind the mercenary and sliding an arm around his shoulders, Niles pulled him in closer, mouth inches from the other mans ear. "Free today?" He drawled quietly, as if he didn't want any passerby's overhearing their 'secret.' "How about a sparring session, hm? I think you'd look great with more holes to pierce."

          Thinking nothing of the other’s advance –though feeling slightly embarrassed that he would do such a thing in public– Joshua turned quickly to look at Niles’ face. He thought it silly how everything Niles said always seemed so promiscuous and gave a small chuckle. 

          “With you? Of course! Though I highly doubt you’ll make someone as skilled as I into a pincushion. Perhaps I would be lucky enough that if i stood still, the wind would take your arrows for me.”  Hands on his hips, Joshua gave a confident smirk. “Just hope you can keep up with me.”
