Leather loafers gently echo down the street as Robin takes quiet steps down the sidewalk, his nose buried deep in his umpteenth reading of The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood. He knows itâs not good to walk distracted, but heâs done it so many times itâs essentially second nature at this pointâand when he has a chance to read his favorite book, he absolutely must take it.
Thatâs why his eyes were cast downward just in time to spot a pen rolling swiftly down the hill, and also why they were still distracted when a stranger bumped into his shoulder and nearly knocked the book from his hand.

âNo worries.â Robin turns towards the utensil, and begins to walk alongside the other. âI assume thatâs your errant pen? Iâll help.â
Walking with a book in hand was a sight that Alphonse was, at the very least familiar with - if not guilty of, actually. âThanks,â he spared a quick glance towards the man and flashed a smile before practically diving down to grab the pen.
In all honesty it probably would have been easier just to let it go and then find a new pen from the hotel or something, but people often didnât give Alphonse credit for just how stubborn he was.
Now his papers were practically crumpled in one hand and he had kicked dirt up onto his pants, but he was victorious. âOh, thatâs such a good story!â He didnât seem to pay mind to anything else except for the book cover, no matter how strange he might have come across. âAre you enjoying it?â

Hakuno took a look at the piece of paper and the number written on it. It wasnât a room number she intimately familiar with, her own homeroom was elsewhere, but sheâd been around the school enough to recognize passing the sign every day.
âItâs on the other hallway this floor. Same number of doors down as the library, justâŠthe opposite direction you turned.â She smiled. âAn honest mistake really. Donât worry.â
âWhile Iâm here, is there anywhere else you need to know the location of? I have some free time I suppose.â
It was a shame that she didnât appear to have the same homeroom as him - it would have been nice to have at least one familiar face in the classroom, but then again it wasnât like they really knew each other so thatâd be a little weird, huh?
âThank you,â the gratitude was genuine in Alâs voice. âActually, if you donât mind... You mentioned a library, right? What kind of books do they have?â
Something lit up in his eyes at the mention of a new wealth of knowledge to learn from. âIâm Alphonse, by the way. I donât think I caught your name.â

Cloud had taken to taking walks around the city when he wasnât working. Not only did it help him learn his way around, but it gave him quiet moments to think while not worrying about work or something else. He was checking out another short cut when he came across the boy.
He couldnât blame the kid for falling asleep. The day was rather warm but comfortably so. Naps werenât something he took very often. But he could have this particular day. StillâŠ
âNo. Youâre not. Probably shouldnât be takinâ a nap outside, though.â
That was a relief, but with a warning like that he couldnât help but feel as though the stranger genuinely wanted to say âyes youâre in the way now please move,â hence why Alphonse stretched his arms far above his head and clambered to his feet.
âItâs such a nice day I guess I couldnât help myself,â he fidgeted with the ends of his sleeves for a moment. âAlthough I guess youâre right, someone could easily step on me.â

âSay!â An idea popped into his head. âHave you been in the city for long?â

@ofchrysopoeia
There were a few moments that made Alphonse doubt the science of the real world for just a second. Sometimes it felt like fate was too tangible of a thing to deny - paths he felt he had no choice but to walk with a predetermined outcome every time.
This was one of those times. A flash of golden hair and a turned back made his breath catch in his throat. Had Ed been in this same hotel the entire time? âBrother!â He shouted, darting forward as quickly as his feet would take him.
He reached out with a hand and tightly gripped the back of Edâs jacket. There was not a chance he had mistaken his identity.
#ohohoho time to harrass my big bro#>:)#ofchrysopoeia#i hope it's alright that i went ahead and wrote a starter! i can re-do anything!

Hakuno was making her way from the school library after some research for a paper when a boy approached her. From the confused look on his face and the lack of uniform, he probably just arrived here and was touring the school before he was supposed to properly show up for the first time.
She had arrived in Stella City in her own uniform though, but she wore her old uniform almost universally anyway. Almost. Either way her case wasnât the same as everyones.
âAh, of course. What do you need? Are you lost?â She was still getting a feel for things even after a few weeks, but she knew the school well enough that she felt she could at least assist him.
He was thankful to run into someone both helpful and willing in such a short time. Perhaps being stuck in this city for a little while wouldnât be so bad if everyone else was like this - either way it left him not doubting his optimism.

âI am,â Alâs eyes closed as he smiled brightly. âI guess thatâs pretty obvious, huh?â Remembering his proper destination he dug through his pocket, his lower lip caught between his teeth.
âThis is supposed to be my homeroom,â there was a room number printed neatly in black pen. âAnd I thought it was down this hallway, but itâs not. Do you know where it is?â

âH-hey!â If nobody had been looking, it would have been safe to say that Al had yelled for absolutely no reason. The streets werenât very crowded to begin with, but moments before he appeared to be struggling with...something in his coat.
Then a small ball of fur became a blur as it leapt away from his body, back paws firmly kicking his stomach. âWait a second!â Not that the cat would listen, of course.
Fortunately it was darting towards a large boy. âGrab him!â He was waving his arms, desperately trying to catch his attention before it became too late.

There wasnât a greater invention than that of paper and a pen. (Yes, okay, alchemy was pretty incredible too but that didnât count in a world where alchemy didnât exist and the steam engine propelled humanity towards its future.)
Al knew he had a tendency to get tunnel vision when it came to being focused. There were too many times he could recall that he would fall asleep over novels and textbooks and wake up drooling on the pages in his childhood.
Hence why he was so upset when the pen flew out of his hand and rolled down the sidewalk - it ruined the concentration he had built up. He let out a little huff as he chased it down, clipping shoulders with another person. âOops, sorry!â

@complexedstigma liked for a starter!
Alphonse hadnât meant to fall asleep but with the sun shining down so warmly on his face it was hard to keep his eyes open. It was the sort of sensation he vowed never to take for granted again - it wasnât all that long ago when he didnât have a body capable of feeling anything, after all.
He wasnât sure how much time passed when he heard the rustling of the grass and footsteps beside him and he shot up practically like a rocket, almost embarrassed he didnât wake up sooner.
âIâm sorry, am I in your way?â He craned his neck backwards to stare at newcomer (with fabulous hair.)

As weird as the whole situation was there was at least some sort of familiarity found within the academy and its books of knowledge. The whole thing was nerve-wracking even to him, a boy who had jumped in between parallel worlds.
It was at the very least beneficial to try and figure out where everything in the academy was before he would have to attend. Such an odd letter (and an odd language to match) ascribing him to what he was going to spend his unforeseeable days in this cozy city doing.
âI thought for sure this was the right way,â he scratched the back of his head sheepishly before quickly glancing the empty hallways. Oh, there was a girl! âExcuse me,â Al called out. âWould you mind helping me?â
