The mass proliferation of AI generated 'music’ across YouTube, and more broadly, the internet, must be stopped. I’m the staunchest defender of freedom of both expression and speech you’re likely to encounter, but I draw the line at generated content, which isn’t an expression at all. It is algorithmic slop. A couple of vague inputs and then a regurgitory response, with no emotion or feeling, no abstraction, no expression, and no genuine creativity. These large language models rip from human creation, chew it up, digest it, and then spit out a half-formed, homunculised regeneration of everything it’s absorbed. This type of technology is nothing but the bane of humanity as it robs us of everything we have used to distinguish—the very essence of—what makes us human.
