Male grooming is on the up. The stats on male waxing show an increase of 130% in male waxing over the last year alone – in fact it even has it’s own name: Manscaping. Taking care of your body is in and stray ear hairs are out. We’ve been delving into the figures and can now reveal the top male treatments and how you can get you guy looking groomed.

A hairy chest is often seen as a sign of masculinity and some men and women find it very attractive however we are yet to meet anyone who is a fan of a hairy back. We usually use strip wax for this treatment, it takes about 25 mins, is relatively pain free and many of clients notice that the hair grows back thinner and finer.

One of the main benefits of intimate waxing is that you don’t get the itchy re-growth associated with shaving and you’ll also notice less ingrown hairs. As with back waxing you’ll often notice that after just a few waxes, much less hair grows back and where it does, it’s thinner and softer (and easier to pull out on the next wax). As this area of the body tends to be quite warm and dare we say it, a bit sweaty, it can often feel cleaner to remove the hair from these intimate areas. Eyebrows/ears/nose

These treatments take about 10 minutes and you will barely notice a twinge. Our therapists use hot wax on these fiddly areas which means they coat the area in a thick, warm wax, wait a minute or so for it to cool down (and attach the hair) and then whip it off, pulling the hair out in one go. Let us re-assure that not one of our front desk staff or therapists will bat an eyelid if you book in for these treatments. We pride ourselves on specializing in male waxing – or should we say ‘Manscaping’ – we even have a specific wax dedicated and designed for male brazilians.  There is a real difference in male skin and hair – with male hair generally being quite a bit thicker and more resilient. The first wax will always be the most uncomfortable but if you keep coming regularly you will really notice that the hair gets thinner and there will be less of it so each appointment should get quicker and easier. If you have been used to shaving you will notice a massive difference in the re-growth; it will be a lot softer, less itchy and less noticeable. We will also recommend products to moisturize and soothe the area, as well as  minimize ingrown hairs, bumps and blemishes so your overall skin quality in the area should be visible improved.

For any sensitive area we use ‘hot wax’ – this dries on the skin and is removed with a quick flick of the hand, pulling in the opposite direction to hair growth. For larger areas such as the chest or back we use Strip wax – this is a thinner wax that is applied to the skin and then removed with a thin fabric that the wax clings to. We use the most up to date techniques to minimize pain and protect the skin.

After analyzing our booking diary and checking with many a wife or partner we have put together our top 5 male treatments – some of them may surprise you!

   Nose and ears: With Valentine’s Day coming up you may well be staring into your loved ones eyes….. or will they be obsessing over those stray hairs protruding from your nose or ears? We use a different disposable applicator (we never double dip!)  to apply the wax to each area and once dry the wax and spatula are whipped away taking the hair with it. It will be over in minutes and nose waxing in particular can be really cleansing and even make it feel easier to breathe. Adriana, our waxing queen admits that she loves nose waxing – apparently pulling the spatula off is great for anger management… gentlemen you have been warned!

   Neck: All is well and good for the first week or so post haircut and then you notice the neck stubble taking on a life of its own. This unruly area can be tamed very quickly and easily at any Strip salon. And once you start waxing regularly you’ll really notice a difference in the hair thickness and quantity so the treatments will become less painful and take less time

   Male Brazilian: Ok so this one isn’t for everyone but it is one of our top male treatments. Our therapists undergo intensive training before they are let loose in this area. We’re not promising it will be a walk in the park but we use a post wax oil to protect the skin and your therapist will advise you to stretch the skin to minimize the pain. It is also a great treatment from a hygiene point of view especially if you have a lot of hair in the area. Plus, the shorter the grass the taller the tree. Just saying

   Back: The last few years have seen embracing men embracing their testosterone fueled hairy chests and you know – we get that. A hairy back however is a bit too ape like for most of us. This treatment uses strip wax which is good for covering a large area and generally takes about 20 minutes.

   Eyebrows: No we will not make you look like Joey from Friends in that episode. In fact most people won’t even notice you have had your eyebrows done – the subtle change will make you look more awake, can open up your face to make you appear younger and it won’t hurt (again we use hot wax, specially designed for sensitive areas).

Brazilian or bikini wax, which on should you choose? Are you thinking of getting your first Brazilian or bikini wax but not sure what to expect or what kind of wax you may want? In a nutshell, waxing hurts, but it’s never as bad as we think it's going to be. The first time you wax you want to be free from shaving for a minimum of 2 weeks, ensuring the hair is long enough. If you have gone past this point and want to trim make sure the hair is at least as long as a grain of rice, our waxing therapists don't mind trimming you before the service if you're not too sure. Before the waxing service you want to arrive to your appointment 10 minutes early in case you have questions for you waxing therapist and to fill out a client intake form if you are new to our spa. During the Brazilian or bikini waxing service your waxing therapist will ask you if you want to remove all of the hair or talk about the different ladyscaping options if you aren't sure. The wax typically takes just 15minutes. You are prepped with our Lycon pre waxing oil and finished with the Lycon finishing oil. So, what are the differences between the shapes and different types of bikini and Brazilian waxes? The extended bikini goes in about 2 fingers extra giving you more security at the beach and is recommended if you want to be fully carefree of the sight of hair in teeny bikinis. Brazilian waxing services includes the front and back side as well as the bikini line but in some cases you may want to leave some hair behind by choosing a martini shape, Mohawk or something else you may have in mind, just consult with your waxing therapist during the service. We don't mind adjusting something to fit your waxing preferences.
