What they don't tell you about writing is that as you write, you discover scenes and entire plots that you hadn't accounted for that need to be written. So you can spend two hours writing and editing only to realise you're further away from the finish line than you thought you were when you started

Could I ask for a session analysis with a Witch of Life, Thief of Hope, Mage of Rage, Sylph of Mind, Muse of Light, Seer of Void, Rogue of Blood, Knight of Breath, Heir of Doom, Lord of Rage, Prince of Heart, Bard of Light, Page of Space, and Maid of Time? Thank you!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zounds, this is a packed session, with the Lord and Muse joining in! Better jump right into it! Speaking as a (supposed) Page of Space, I can tell you that their job of making the Genesis frog will not be easy, so they'll need all the help they can get. The Knight of Breath, thankfully, will be Johnny-on-the-spot to help them, though they might be the only one for a while, as their presence will indicate an overall lack of movement throughout the session, so not a lot of direct interaction is likely to happen. Keeping lines of communication open will be vital, and the Sylph of Mind will be perfect for that. Even if things go wrong, we all know how effectively a Maid of Time can keep things on track, and the Seer of Doom may be instrumental in letting the team know ahead of time about any hidden dangers in the session.
Tumblr media
This session has some possible hitches, though. If the Page's work continues too slowly, hopefully the Witch of Life will be able to reach them. Her ability to alter the course of growth and life will certainly help. That said, the Thief of Hope will need to be watched out for, as we can't be having them putting down others' notions and beliefs to propagate their own good time...unless they're working directly against the Dersite forces, of course. Having an Heir of Doom is a double-edged sword, as he'll be tied into the very unseen gears of fate, able to rework the natural order of things...though he might not be able to escape his own fate, if the time should come. The Prince of Heart must be kept on an even keel. Remember that a Prince achieves their potential most readily after their aspect is destroyed within themselves, and heartbreak followed by god tier powers can be...messy. Then, the Rogue of Blood will have a rough time stitching relationships back together without detracting from elsewhere. Remember, you all need to work at this together!
Tumblr media
Finally, we come to the master classes and their associates. The Muse of Light will quite possibly win MVP, tweaking things here and there to make sure everyone's always in-the-know about important goings-on in the game. The Bard of Light will be more prone to letting all that hard work go to waste, unless the Muse can gently direct his shenanigans, making him seem like the luckiest guy in the session! The Mage of Rage will be fully in-tune with how everyone's feeling, understanding implicitly the build-up of stress on each player, including themself. It is the Lord of Rage, however, who will most likely be orchestrating where the Mage goes and how they contribute, playing upon the Mage's (and every other player's) most potent feelings to make the session turn out how he wants it!
Tumblr media
Whoo, that was a big one! Overall, it's got a lot of ups and downs, but as long as nobody goes rogue (or just goes AWOL), and they all remember to stick to teamwork (and most importantly just TALK TO EACH OTHER), I think they have a decent shot! Good luck!

Webcomic Recommendations
Since I figure there’s people out there always looking for new webcomics (like myself), I decided to make a list of the ones I’m reading/have read! They’re all free to access, and I’ll include the comic’s official “description” under its title, if it has one (also, the comics’ titles are links to the website hosting them). The list is below the cut, and separated into “Ongoing” (as of 3/15/2019) and “Complete/Never to be Continued" (for the latter, I’ll indicate which in the description). Note: These are not necessarily intended for young audiences!

Last week I dropped the Ultimate Homestuck Recap that summarized the webcomic that once dominated the internet, particularly Tumblr.
Today I bring you what it was all for, a video essay called Homestuck Is Good, Actually.
If you were wondering, "Homestuck, really? In 2025?" The answer is yes. This isn't ironic. It's 100% sincere. I love Homestuck. And I think you should, too. Let me tell you why. Let me tell you about… Homestuck.
It's not perfect by any means though, and brace yourself for some hot takes. But if you'd check it out or show any friends that might be interested, I'd be very grateful.

on the whole it has always bugged me how femme ppl in the fandom tend to characterize vriska as? the only time in the entire series that she hasn't dressed androgynously she was literally imitating a boy's fantasy for attention, her speech patterns are consistently kinda bro-y when she's not playing her mindfang persona, i would say on the whole her performance of overt femininity tends to be an attempt to soften her edges and make herself more acceptable to people bc she's lonely, whereas when she's comfortable and feeling herself she consistently presents as like a dyke-y know-it-all gamer girl with a bit of cringe theater kid energy (very common type of girl in TTRPG spaces)
idk, seems kinda sexist to look at that and say "she needs to get in touch with her femininity and put on a cute dress," with the added subtext of "this trans woman's deliberately performed masculine affectations and discomfort with hegemonic womanhood must be because of her male socialization, she just doesn't know how to woman right yet"

I'm sorry, I don't understand the "Inverse/Grimdark" thing. Could you explain it?
Sure anon! Since I’m on a roll talking about inverses and Grimdark already, this should be interesting!
Grimdark is what happens to a player who does one of three things:
Over-embrace their class or aspect.
Reject their class or aspect.
Is Unrealized in their class or aspect.
In the comic, going grimdark is described as ‘going completely off the deep end in every way’. Now, I’m sure that alone doesn’t help much, so let’s talk about it a little more.
Grimdark, is, in a way, a state of depression. Of course it is different for everyone, but every example we’ve seen has been extremely traumatic for those involved. It happens because you yourself are turning into someone you are not meant to be. Sburb is a game meant for self-development, and going down the wrong path could mean certain disaster. This is, in a way, the game’s twisted way of telling you ‘you took a very wrong turn’.
For example, anon. Let’s say you have my title, Maid of Space. The Maid of Space is supposed to be someone who cares for creation, and creates matter itself. We are supposed to be able to deal with working in the background, while realizing that it is important even when other people might not notice how hard we work to keep everything the way it needs to be. It’s a hard thing to come to terms to for a lot of people, working hard with no thanks involved.
If I were to go grimdark, lets say, by over-embracing my aspect. I would needlessly create everything and anything. I would become so overprotective and caring of the Space in the universe, I would be like one of those crazy over-sheltering mothers you see on TV, never letting paradox Space do anything on it’s own, and not taking my role in the background.
If I were to reject my aspect, I would do something a little closer to how Porrim Maryam feels about being a Maid of Space. Porrim hates the title ‘maid’ because of the supposedly sexist connotations it has. She is not actually grimdark, but could have gone down that path if things had happened a little differently. A Maid who rejects their aspect would refuse to care for their aspect, and would try to destroy it instead of creating it. This is where inverts come in, as I talked about in a previous post. If I were only rejecting my class, I would be acting like a Bard of Space. But, should I reject both my class and my aspect, I would end up acting a bit like a Bard of Time. This is why you’ll see my posts about classes/aspects having inverses.
Now, one final example. Let’s say I am unrealized in my class. Maid’s create and care for, as I mentioned. But, what if I thought doing so was pointless, stupid, silly? I wouldn’t reject my aspect, simply because I wouldn’t be doing the opposite, but I wouldn’t embrace it either. This is being unrealized.
That is how you go grimdark. You must learn to accept and grow in your role, and learn that there are some big lessons to learn within that role. Doing any of the above three things is one theory about what causes grimdarkness. Going grimdark doesn’t necessarily mean you’re evil, of course. A canon example of a grimdark player is Rose Lalonde, who was rejecting her aspect. She was becoming oddly close to the horrorterrors, a part of sburb very closely tied to the inverse of her own aspect, Void. Her own aspect, Light was being rejected as she became closer to dark magic, and the secrets of the horrorterrors. Does this make her evil? Of course not. She simply took an unhealthy turn. Grimdark, in an essence, is an unhealthy way of growing for a player. It’s a sickness that is caused by the unhealthy growth. Or, at least that’s how I describe it.
I hope my ramble on grimdark was helpful to you! I will be making a more organized blurb on it in the future, but this should help cover it in the meantime. My apologies if I rambled a bit.
~The Maid of Space.
