Sorry for my absence. I’ve had a back injury and have been pretty much surfing on pain meds for a the last few days. I am going on a semi-hiatus until the pain is manageable at least. This is extended to all my accounts.

“ At least you can’t cheer for the wrong damn team while you’re here.”
She knows the coffee is awful before she drinks it. But she drinks it anyway. And then she reaches for his to help him drink that too. It won’t taste any better, but she likes to think other people’s food is inherently better than her own.
“ You think those Atlantians have something like that? Sports and shit? Think you’ll find a goal or hoop or ball? Or better coffee maybe, cause this is shit.”
He mourned the short life of his instant coffee, and rested his now freed hand on his hip. Sheppard looked back at the ocean, and thought this woman wouldn’t handle it when they started to ration the supplies. He looked back at her, and leaned against the railing.
“Don’t know. I got a briefing about them from Dr. Jackson. But, I stopped listening five minutes into it when he started to talk about archeology. I got the basics of it that thought. We’re the dumbed down descendants of them. So, they had to have some kind of sports, right?”

“ That’s the technical name for it, is it?”
Sheppard simply pushed her into the event horizon of the Stargate and then stepped in after her.

“ or an excellent opportunity for a bet. ”
she grinned, eyes seemingly flashing for a moment. tongue flicked out to lick her lips in anticipation. now, this could be interesting.
“ i like your jacket and i’ve got some cash in my pocket. seems like a fair deal. you guess my age – or one above or below to make it easier – you win. otherwise, that jacket’s mine. ”

‘ i knew a girl in her thousandths. but, if you want to take bets . . .
elizabeth would give him a lecture. there wasn’t anything in the pockets except for his last piece of spearmint gum from earth. he took the jacket off, and placed it on a surface near them.
‘ i get three chances, deal? don’t make it, it’s yours.

ifthemoneysgood:

She appreciates the coffee. She’d appreciate food more, but coffee will do because it’s hot. She certainly appreciates it a lot ore than the alien ocean she’s been looking out at. It’s less the fact that it’s an alien ocean that bothers her, but that it’s an alien ocean.
“ Why’s it have to be an ocean? Why can it be a desert? Or a… fuckin’ drive-through or something. Why are there no alien McDonalds?”
‘ Hey, preachin’ to the choir here. Give me a Big Mac with fries, please. ‘
Sheppard smiled. He drank his coffee and rested his spare hand in his pocket. Only ten minutes, and he’d get changed for his routine run through the once legendary city while hoping the power didn’t go out and start to sink the city again. The Major glanced at her, and shrugged his shoulders.
‘ Doctor Jackson tried to explain it. But, I don’t speak science. I just go with that the legend was Atlantis sank. And here we are. Ocean. Just not back on Earth. Where I can be watching the game and tossing back a beer. ‘

Sheppard stepped out onto the terrace, off the side of the make-shift mess hall. The instant coffee bitter on his tongue as he stepped beside her and looked out over the alien ocean. He doesn’t say anything at first, just lets the ocean air fill his lungs before he sits the spare coffee he had down on the railing in front of her.
‘ hell of a view isn’t it? ‘
