It was a peaceful night.

Daisy was out having a relaxing evening with Peach, and Luigi was on bedtime duty with Laura (7, clever and calm) and Luca (5, sensitive and a little dramatic).

Surprisingly, things went smoothly. Dinner: success. Baths: no injuries. Stories: one and a half, because Luca fell asleep mid-dragon fight and Laura corrected Luigi’s pacing twice.

Lights off. Kids tucked in. Luigi tiptoed to the door with a proud little grin.

Then...

CREEEEAK.

THUMP.

Luigi froze.

Luca jolted upright. “...Papa… what was that…?”

Laura sat up too, eyebrows furrowed. “That came from downstairs.”

“Proooobably the fridge,” Luigi said, voice cracking. “Maybe... maybe some leftover pasta shifting around.”

Luca whimpered. “...Spaghetti doesn’t thump.”

Luigi tried to keep cool. “Stay in bed. I’ll check.”

He slipped into the hallway.

Two seconds later—VRRMMM. He was back, now fully geared up with his Poltergust G-00 strapped to his back.

Luca whispered, “He brought the ghost vacuum…”

Laura narrowed her eyes. “We’re following him.”

“But—what if there’s a real ghost?!”

“You don’t not follow Papa when he’s acting like he’s in a movie.”

They tiptoed after Luigi, Laura in front, Luca holding the back of her shirt and clutching his plushie like it was a shield.

Meanwhile, Luigi crept downstairs like a ninja with asthma. His heart thudded. The sounds were louder now—someone moving around. Soft footsteps. A bag rustling. Something sliding on the floor.

“Okay... okay, Luigi,” he muttered. “You’ve faced worse... haunted mansions... The king Boo… one time Mario let you do the plumbing. You’ve got this.”

Then—a shadow moved.

Luigi shouted, “BOO?!?” and powered up the Poltergust with a battle cry.

“VRRROOOOM!”

“AAAAH!!” a voice shrieked back—and Daisy dropped a bag of pastries and flailed into the hallway light.

Everyone froze.

Luigi stopped mid-blast. Laura and Luca stood wide-eyed on the stairs. Daisy, panting and tangled in her scarf, stared at her vacuum-wielding husband.

“LUIGI!”

“DAISY?!”

Laura blinked. “...We followed him to keep him from vacuuming a plant. This is worse.”

“I—I thought you were a ghost!” Luigi stammered, lowering the nozzle.

Daisy picked up a squashed croissant. “I didn’t want to wake the kids. No lights, no doors slamming. Just me, your ghost of pastries past.”

Luca peeked from behind Laura. “...So there’s no Boo?”

“No Boo,” Daisy said. “Only a very scared dad and two sneaky kids.”

Luigi sighed, rubbing his forehead. “I swear I heard—”

“Probably the bag,” Laura said. “Plastic crinkles can sound like ghost wings.”

Luca nodded slowly. “...That makes sense.”

Daisy grinned. “Next time, maybe I’ll text before I walk in.”

Luigi chuckled nervously. “And maybe I won’t prep the vacuum like I’m hunting King Boo.”

They all stood there a moment, still slightly jittery.

Then Daisy handed over the pastry bag.

“Anyone want a midnight muffin?”

Three hands shot up. "MEEEE!!"

It's been a while, but I've finally got something to post. My family bought a Nintendo switch and a few games, including Mario Cart 8. Playing the game and rewatching the Mario Bros movie brought back my obsession with Luigi, so I couldn't help but make a drawing of him and his other forms.
