I know some of KJC’s books and series don’t have a specific reading order. However, I read the LilyWhite Boys before Sins of the Cities, and the Will Darling Adventures before the other England World books. Has this happened to anybody else, where you feel like you need to reread the other books now?
On the other hand, it’s so nice to see glimpses of characters 15, 20 years into the future- Archie and Daniel stronger than ever in their love, playing scary uncles to Will and Kim. And Sukey with her guvnors. There are so many happy endings in the worlds she creates.

One of my favorite parts of Copper Script is that Aaron’s love language is showing Joel new restaurants. And just the quiet little moments of recognition and care. Like when Joel orders Macaroni Cheese because he can eat it one-handed, and one of Aaron’s first thoughts is, well I know this great place that has lots of food you can eat with one hand.
This book is FULL of special moments.
Oh, KJC. Well done, you.

Shoutout to Copper Script for… well, everything, really.
Give me more toe-curling flirty dinner dates in the midst of murderous chaos.
Joel makes my heart beat like a hummingbird.
Every gentle detail related to Joel’s prosthetic and especially the end and the hopeful promise of Germany is just- ✨
Had a couple great side characters too!
Dolce Torino forever 🍰🥹

More on Gilded Cage:
Sukey is an absolute POWERHOUSE. KJC wrote a fantastic complex female protagonist which is rare in KJC books, as a majority of the protagonists are male. And I could feel James rooting for her and loving her how she wanted to be loved. If you’ve read the book, hopefully you’ll remember the scene in which there is a ~dangerous situation~ but James doesn’t swoop in to save her. He merely stands by her for support, because she had the situation pretty handled. I’ve kept it pretty spoiler-free, but this next part has a spoiler!
Spoiler warning ‼️
There is a separation between the characters at the end, not because they broke up, but because of circumstance, and this is followed by the SWOONIEST, most epically romantic proposal. James and Sukey invented love. I don’t know what existed before they came along. But. Yeah. Maybe this is your sign to move up a KJC book in your TBR. That’s what I do sometimes when I’m in a reading slump, and I have yet to regret it!

I could write a hundred posts about how great Gilded Cage is. But one of the most satisfying elements was the communication. James and Sukey have a complicated past that is largely defined by a misunderstanding, and they talk about it probably 1/3 into the book. I’m glad KJC didn’t wait until further in the novel to write this exchange. What I also loved is that this one conversation doesn’t solve everything. James is still a criminal and Sukey a detective. I feel like the pacing of the romance was well done, where there isn’t this instant fix and forgiveness, but the characters still have these beautifully tender and intimate moments which speaks to their past relationship.
I highly highly recommend this book! It has great cameos from our lovely protagonists of the series.

KJ Charles writes pairings with absolute craft. I mean they’re all just perfect for each other 😭
SPOILERS BELOW:
Archie: I’m just learning this about myself but you’re worth the leap of faith.
Daniel: I’m used to being used. I will survive like I always have. Show me that I’m wrong, and I’ll let you in on the joke.
-
Will: Taking it day by day is how I survived. What does it mean to look ahead, and build a future with somebody?
Kim: You saw through me. I promised not to lie to you, and I’ll confess my love so as not to lie by omission.
-
Maisie: You took me out and showed me the world.
Phoebe: The world is nothing. You are everything.
-
Joss- I see my home in a new light because of you.
Gareth- You filled my soulless life with childlike wonder and understanding.
-
Luke- You helped me reckon with my past, and let my father go.
Rufus- You changed your handwriting for me.
-
Christiana- You see me as I am- Christiana, always.
Stan- My beautiful girl. We saved each other.
-
Nicky- I loved you then. I lived in exile, repentance, and regret, after. You don’t have to believe me, but I did it for you.
Jem- I watched you love him. You destroyed me then, but we all deserve the truth. Don’t we?
-
Pat: I see you through the bubbles and the sandbagging. You take my breath away.
Fen: Quiet competence 🤤

Will’s love changed Kim. An obvious statement, but let me explain!
He gifts Will “White Stains”- the most incriminating book with the most incriminating inscription (which is also a promise of truth and commitment😭). Book 1 Kim would NEVER. It could mean that love made the always-prudent Kim reckless, but I think it’s as good as an engagement ring.

Clarifying question about season 2 of Hannibal:
Obviously Hannibal is trying to exonerate Will now. Cuz his little plan is falling into place. But why isn’t he killing the way the copycat killer killed? He’s being sloppy imo, but it’s Hannibal so there’s obviously a reason. He’s making it seem like it could be two different killers, but why?

Hannibal must’ve laughed to himself at every opportunity. I mean, Jack, Alana, and Will made it so fucking easy for him to get away with his crimes.
Now that Will’s in jail for crimes he didn’t commit, I bet they’re STILL not gonna treat his fucking encephalitis 😭
