Shipping and Handling!

Saw posts about shipping and wanted to chime in (never met a bandwagon I didn't like!). I'm still firmly writing and muse chemistry first, I love writing romance but don't want to rush thing that don't make sense.

I've got a few headcanons/ideas and some ships I've come to like and enjoy. However, I'm open to crossover ships and Haru x OC's, again it comes down to how things play out over all.

Behind the cut are the headcanons/ideas and some ships I've come to enjoy.

Headcanons:

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Romantic Orientation: Heterosexual

MC/Joker was her 'first love'. Haru took notice of him around school, but kept her distance due to the rumors + her own issues with family and love life. As she saw him around more often though, started to form an attachment from a distance.

Found that he looked cute, didn't seem as bad as people said he was: to Haru he looked kind of quiet, with Ann and Ryuji easily being the more vocal and lively. Also, as Haru was forced to spend more and more time with her fiancé Sugimura, started to idealize a guy she wasn't even speaking to.

Her crush reached critical mass when she was properly introduced to him and the other Phantom Thieves. However, she didn't confess or make a move on such feelings until late in the year.

I've mentioned it before, but I see the gentle rejection of her confession as 'canon', in that Haru latched onto her feelings for him, shallow as they were; because he was the first person she had an interest in. Such a sharp contrast to her fiancé and seemed to care about her, even if it was only as a friend.

After Haru graduates high school, she goes on dates with other men in society for her mother's sake. Becomes a tabloid darling by accident since she keeps 'leading men on': politicians, heirs to fortunes + successful companies, etc. Her fickleness and off-handed manner of dating is causing her image conscious mother to go prematurely gray at this point.

Ideas:

Fake dating trope is my catnip. I could see it as Haru picking someone she's close to and simply bring him to her mother like: this is my boyfriend, please don't set me up on any more dates or matchmaking services, thank you.

Of course it'd be planned and consented to by the other party, they'd go to a few society functions to keep up the ruse and a few 'normal' dates so the tabloids will view it as the real deal and stop bothering her.

As they spend more time together pretending to be a couple, it starts becoming the real deal.

Battle Couple: Haru misses fighting monsters, so she sharpens her skills, agrees to be trained by another person. Through sparring and honing her instincts, starts to view the other person in a new light.

Ships

Haru x MC/Joker: Mentioned it on another blog, but I love unrequited and doomed love. Haru views Ren/Akira as her first love. Now as to how much of that was love or a distraction from her being locked into an unwanted marriage, who's to say.

I view the rejection of her confession as 'canon', now if anything can develop beyond that point in time is up for debate.

Haru x Ryuji Sakamoto: I simply think they'd be cute and wholesome together, plus if Mementos conversation is anything to go on, Ryuji is a bit scared of Haru.

What's a little healthy fear between friends??

Haru x Yusuke Kitagawa: I view them as two dramatic and eccentric individuals. How that'd work as a couple, no idea but I'm intrigued!

"It's not your reaction that bothered me" rather, the fact someone was concerned in the first place. Her parents and the adults around Haru kept making out like it was not a big deal. Like they weren't deciding her fate, all for her father to rise in popularity.

What was he even thinking, working on a campaign this late in the year? She hardly had a head for politics, but Haru could already tell her father had a late start. Would be laughable if all of this was for nothing, if he were disgraced and lost.

No. Couldn't allow that. As angry as she was at her father. Haru couldn't bring herself to wish him grief.

Coming back to the present, looking Makoto in the eye, the brunette nodded in answer. Equally determined. Only to look at Makoto's extended hand.

Lips formed a small 'oh', pressed quickly closed as Haru questioned the blush along her own cheeks. Not wanting to make things awkward, she rushed to take Makoto's hand in hers.

"Thank you, that means so much to me" even as she embraced gratitude, Haru set up limitations for herself.

Yes, Makoto was being kind to listen to her, wanting to help, but couldn't take advantage of that sort of patience.

Held onto Makoto's hand, uncertainty replaced with a beaming smile.

"Well, I suppose for a little while I'm in your care, Madame President. The same goes for you, so you know. I want you to be able to trust me too, with anything at all."

"It's not fair. You should be able to choose who you marry," Makoto muttered, her brows furrowed in frustration. "I know if we capture your father's treasure, he'll change his mind and you'll be okay..."

Makoto let out a small sigh, noticing Haru's hesitation. She must have overreacted again, which she was finding these days was not as looked-down-upon as she thought. It wasn't until she'd joined the Thieves that Makoto had realized she didn't need to act as the robotic, submissive teacher's pet to get through life. She could be her own person and still make a name for herself.

Haru was still pretty new to the concept, though.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have reacted so strongly. I just... care about your well-being. I want you to be free of that contract but only if you want to, too," Makoto explained. "You just seem so... upset about it so I want to be here for you."

She offered her hand to hold for comfort. "You can always come to me if something bothers you. If you just want to vent or if you need advice. I'm trying my best to be a better student council president as well as a better friend. So I'm gonna be here for everyone, including you."
