❗TROLLING Analysis warning ❗
(Please do not take this one seriously😭🙏)
What If the Matsu Brothers aren’t actually ?
1. Osomatsu Matsuno
_Shows creativity in scams, such as exploiting the brothers’ identical appearance to split work shifts into just five minutes each.
_ Recognizes Iyami’s teeth could produce abundantly and quickly schemes to profit from them via Hatabou’s factory.
_Carefully slices the watermelon into small pieces so Ichi and Jyushi believed it was leftover of the watermelon they brought (Or else they might get suspicious like Choro)
2. Karamatsu Matsuno
_Detects subtle shifts in mood, e.g., noticing Osomatsu’s bad temper and attempting to steer Jyushi away to prevent conflict. Also be alone with Oso shortly after to avoid rising tension.
_Tries to de-escalate tensions when Osomatsu falsely accuses the others of theft, quietly pointing out the wallet was still in Oso’s pocket rather than humiliating him publicly.
_Generally avoids unnecessary conflicts or inserting himself into pointless debates.
3. Choromatsu Matsuno
_Anticipates Osomatsu’s impulsive behavior and empties the money envelope beforehand to protect it, trolling Oso in the process.
_Analyzes situations logically: Deduces his mother must be using electronic equipment to attack from above (since she could targeted them perfectly from afar) and counters it safely by spitting water (water damages the electronics) from a distance.
_Pays attention and recognizes suspicious circumstances, such as the sudden abundance of watermelons, and warns his brothers against falling for too-good-to-be-true scenarios.
4. Ichimatsu Matsuno
_Shows practical knowledge in daily life, offering shopping and household tips.
_Reads fluently and quickly even in inconvenient settings (The sweet shop factory episode), becoming the natural choice for handling letters and instructions. (Notice how Choro gave the letter for him to read and asked what to do when they turned into shits)
_Desires order within the group, e.g., insisting on cleanliness and shared responsibility in a six-person household.
5. Jyushimatsu Matsuno
_Picks up on subtle emotional undercurrents, e.g., interpreting Ichi’s “bad haircut in the rain” as a hidden attempt to cheer up the group.
_Understands how second-hand experiences (like overhearing love stories) can shape feelings.
_Recognizes how peer influence can push Choromatsu to desire success and recognition.
6. Todomatsu Matsuno
_Most successful with women, as he understands how to dress, act, and speak appropriately in social contexts.
_Skilled in building and maintaining relationships: uses lies (e.g., pretending to be a salaryman, lying about writing a report as he was in university) to enhance his image.
_Actively engages with society, attending mixers, going to the gym, and interacting with people outside the family circle.
So, I am thinking:
What if none of the Matsu brothers are a completely dumbass, they are just too wild and don't want to follow the norm's logic? What if they just want to refuse harsh reality and live in their delulu own world to cope?
Osomatsu → Smart when it comes to tricking others.
Karamatsu → Acts upon to de-escalating conflict.
Choromatsu → Rational once given enough context.
Ichimatsu → Possesses practical skills and knowledge.
Jyushimatsu → Surprisingly good at reading people’s psychology.
Todomatsu → Knows and exploits social rules.
Like, they would use their brains selectively according situations?
(IMAO DO NOT TAKE THIS ONE SERIOUSLY I WAS JUST TOO BORED)

[🍉Would Choromatsu eat the watermelon alone?🍉]
1. Osomatsu: Ate it alone. Classic gag showing his laid-back, shameless attitude where he just does whatever he wants.

2. Ichimatsu & Jyushimatsu: Waited for everyone, just like they promised. They’re the ones actually keeping the rule of sharing equally.

3. Karamatsu & Todomatsu: Ate them immediately, but in their defense, they were exhausted from wandering around looking for watermelons in the heat. (Unlike Osomatsu, who just lazed at home and still gobbled them down.)

4. Choromatsu: …We never got to see, since the plot got interrupted by watermelon aliens.
So the question remains: Would he keep the promise? 🤔🧐
Here’s my take:
Osomatsu eats whenever he wants because he’s straightforward and doesn’t care about appearances. Choromatsu, though, is the opposite- his selfish or silly behavior usually shows when he’s alone, or when girls are involved. Around the brothers' group, he really wants to keep his “responsible” image.
In the “Four” skit, he finds it ridiculous to fight over food and comes up with more balance solution. Ichimatsu tells him better to divide them equally and he happily does.

In the “Pizza” skit, he tries hard to prove he cares about the budget and about what everyone will eat; again, protecting his “responsible brother” image.

2. Now, compare that to Kara & Todo eating the suspicious watermelons out of sheer exhaustion. Choromatsu was the one still alert enough to stop them, showing he was still in his usual “on guard” mindset. And let’s not forget he was the one who suggested the “no eating alone” rule in the first place. He would likely think twice about so causually breaking it.

So… would he break it? There’s no solid proof either way. But I lean toward no. Maybe not because he’s a genuinely good boy like Ichi or Jyushi, but because he wants to maintain fairness and; more importantly; his image at least.
What do you think? Would Choromatsu actually resist?🍉
If people put so much effort to carefully analyis his flaws then this question shouldn't be such a mistery to them right

I know Osomatsu Matsuno has his own warm-hearted moments: for example, when their dad was hospitalized or when he protected Jyushimatsu’s feelings by hiding the truth. But I don’t think it’s shallow at all when people say
“Osomatsu can be selfish/has selfish moments.”
Sure, if someone only ever views him as purely selfish, that’s overlooking his character. But let’s be real: He’s definitely not “selfless” either.
Honestly, the same applies to all six brothers. They all have idiotic, selfish moments for the sake of their “shitty NEET comedy” as well as surprisingly decent moments. Even the “nicest” brothers, Jyushimatsu and Karamatsu, aren’t flawless and innocent the way some fanon versions paint them.
So why does this bother me so much? Because for some reason, it feels like every time someone points out Osomatsu’s hidden good qualities, it somtimes comes with a side of: "See? Choromatsu is actually the dumbest/most selfish one all along." That’s just not fair. Osomatsu has selfish traits too- he stole all the money when his brothers were sick, and tried to do the same while their parents were away. And yet, if his wallet went missing, he’d be the first to blame everyone else and make a fuss. He even shoved Choromatsu and Jyushi to the front as a “shield.”
And you know what? I don’t even mind those moments- they’re part of the gag, part of why I like him as a “shitty NEET” character. But erasing that side of him while pushing all the flaws onto Choromatsu (or anyone else) just makes the whole discussion unfair. At the end of the day, while all the brothers are actually deeper than they seem, their flaws are still there and none of them could be viewed as selfless.

Regardless, I do love Osomatsu's nice moments and still love them both a lot.

True.
And I don't like how people saying how immature you can be for wanting purely 5 minutes laugh of a comedy genre instead of offering a long analyis of character growth and meaningful stories. Like, I would have just, you know, find some kid shows to watch then? (I know the show could be deeper than it seemed from S1, but they saved it for the most important part and it did not kill the aldut humor theme)
We have a whole movie telling how Totoko does not want to be the typical nice female lead stereotype, and now she is....so soft.
And Jyushi become just another calm and cool guy like... (I know he is considerate, could read atmosphere and so on from the start but he doesn't feel like Jyushimatsu anymore.)

Early thoughts on season 4

JUST HOW I SEE CHOROMATSU
(At least until the writers mess with his character again. Though S4 seems more kid-friendly so far)
If you are wondering why would I bring old discussion up again, it is because Twitter/Tiktok still keep calling him out for it. (That is why, just let me rant to feel a bit better).
Everyone loves to call Choromatsu “creepy” because of his wild idol fantasies:
He wanted to slid Nyaa his Twitter.

He dreamed of becoming an idol manager just to get closer to date them.

He openly thirsted after young Totoko and Nyaa.
[I can't find the movie to screenshot, only a part of Tiktok with terrible quality]
But honestly, here’s how I see him:
1. He’s satire, not serious.
Choro is the writers poking fun at idol otaku culture. Each brother represents a real-life NEET archetype: Ichimatsu is the social-phobic hikikomori, Todomatsu is the fake Instagram lifestyle poster, etc. Choromatsu’s exaggerated confessions are deliberately ridiculous, not threatening. They’re parody. He, as an anime lover, is the perfect choice to make fun of audiences/fan. The show loves doing this, another example is the cringe yaoi of F6.
2. Fantasy ≠ reality.
Yes, Choro sometimes admits to disturbing fantasies, but they stay in his head (Or just a confession between his brothers at least). It’s no different from real-life fans who write fanfiction or make wild comments online.
Totoko wants attention from all six brothers, so I don’t even count her moments.
And Nyaa is an idol- not just a singer. I think one of many things Western fan do not know is that becoming an idol means consenting to play the “mental girlfriend” role for fans. That’s why she had to retire once she got married. She is self-aware that she's not selling her music talent, but also selling her avaible purity girlfriend image, given the fact she only comeback when divorced and has to hide the fact she is a singer mother. Choro spent money (merch, meeting, concert) means he bought the image she sells. Choro’s daydreams about dating her (like imagining she cooked for him or took him places) were his way of living inside that idol-fan illusion they gave him.
3. He has boundaries.
The point of the joke is that Choro, like many anime fan, sounds unhinged/wild/horny in fantasy/ their fictional fanwork or online, but in real life they're painfully awkward and cautious.
Put in real situations, Choro:
Can’t handle strangers hugging him.

Can’t actually hit on girls.

Punches Osomatsu when he gets pervy.

Refuses to wash clothes near women bathing in the river.

Can’t even suck Totoko’s blood when he becomes a mosquito.

This shows he collapses the second fantasy becomes reality.
4. He’s the realist.
He knows that some fan might cross boundaries and demanding. That's why he's aware he has to act cool and distant to Nyaa. Let say he just wants to stand out and does not want to be associate with creepy fan with hope that she views him differently and his plan would be smoother, but at least he knows what is acceptable and considers her feelings.

When Nyaa retired, Choro packed away her merch and immediately tried to get an office job. He knew that once she stopped being an idol, he couldn’t keep living in a fantasy, and he had to move on.
[Thanks for pointing out]
And when Nyaa wanted to date Osomatsu, of course he was shocked. Even though all six brothers are NEETs, they all admit Oso is the lowest of the low. When Choro barged into her place, he still told her she could date whoever she wanted. He only completely broke down because she couldn’t even acknowledge him.

So yeah, his fantasies sound bad, but that’s the joke.
Choro is the walking embodiment of embarrassing fan fantasies colliding with awkward real life. And every single time, reality wins. He freezes, blushes, and goes back to being the “responsible” brother.
[Stay strong on Twitter and Tiktok, Choro stans]
