Hello hello! 2 questions, first, is the starbound au yours and second, could you explain it? Always love to find a lovely new Varigo au

Hihi!! I loveee when people ask about starbound ☺️

1. Yes it is my au!! 😋

2. Starbound started out as a Moonstone Varian au that turned into a little more!

Each of the kids (team radical + rapunzel) was born on or sometime around a celestial event:

Rapunzel: During an eclipse, she hadn’t directly gained the sundrop’s powers until it started draining from Corona leading to the queen’s sickness and hence the quest for the sundrop

Varian: During a lunar eclipse that had enhanced the moonstone’s powers and sent it haywire, his mom slipped him a bracelet she had been experimenting magic on. It protected Varian and he only inherited some of his full powers, but Ulla ended up passing in the process.

Now this is where things change up more, because there were more magic objects/beings than just the sundrop and moonstone, 3 others to be exact, that Ulla and Donella had put their research into using Demanitus’s studies:

Hugo: He was born during a “star shower”, his fragment is of the stars and his “powers” have to do with enhancing the moonstone; but before then he was the reason his kingdom had been developing so rapidly which sparked up the war between Ingvarr and Galcrest (earth kingdom) again.

Nuru: Her event was Koto’s very first meteor storm, she is attuned to gravitational shifts and is the keeper of the person who holds the star fragment

Koto and Ingvarr became allies during this time after the royal families discovery of this, Nuru and Hugo were raised around each other (Koto is the kingdom next to Ingvarr). Hugo is also Ingvarr’s adopted prince but more on that will come later on 🤫

Yong: He was born during a supernova, his powers promote new life and explosive outbursts (as supernova’s themselves promote new star formation and explosive outbursts)

Once all fragments combine in Corona it unlocks the eternal library in the end!!

Kingdom of Fire

Keep in mind these are only base ideas of what I want the cultures of each kingdom to be based off of 🙂‍↕️

Ok I wanna talk about something I don't think is nearly talked about enough in the tts fandom. And that is how impactful, though unintentionally, Ulla's death is to Varian's life.

Firstly, Varian's arc throughout the show is defined by the fact that he is alone. Before he meets Rapunzel, he doesn't have any friends, and he is shown to be hated by his town because of the chaos his experiments cause. Then his dad dies, and he's even more alone. He loses his only support system. He is then put in prison for his treasonous crimes, where he meets Andrew and doesn't feel so alone. But then he betrays him in order to become a better person. And even after he betrays his friend for his kingdom, he is still seen as a traitor by everyone in Corona.

So, what does his mom have to do with that? Well, put simply, if his mom had never died/left, he wouldn't have been so alone.

The biggest reason his father was encased in amber was because Varian was forced to hide his experiments from him. And the reason his father is so distrusting of his alchemical studies and experiments is because his mom died because of hers, and he doesn't want the same thing happening to Varian.

Along with that, if his father (and supposedly his mother) was encased in amber, he would have a support system in Ulla's family. While Quirin does not contact his family (the Brotherhood) because he doesn't want to go back to that life, and they all split up years ago, Ulla doesn't have those same reservations about her family. She most likely would have wanted them in Varian's life, giving Varian people to reach out to in the event of his parents getting encased.

There is also the fact that Ulla would have been able to support and nurture his genius mind in a way that would make him even smarter and talented at alchemy than he already is in the show. And outside of Ulla, he would also grow up around Donella, since she and Ulla often worked on alchemy and engineering projects together. His connection to Don, along with his father's connection to King Frederick, would most likely get him a wonderful job in alchemy once he is old enough, much similarly to how he becomes Royal Engineer of Corona, but without the tension and backstory he has in the series.

So, yea. Ulla is super important to Varian's character and arc in tts despite never even being mentioned by name.

I’ll go first:

Varigo would take the time to slow down and read. Probably next to a window, switching books after they’re done with their own. Varian playing with Hugo’s hair and them both probably falling asleep.

Steddie is a very different story because Eddie would convince Steve go out and dance in the rain with him. Starting out fun and exciting but then turning into a slow dance. The music coming from a banged up old speaker. Something soft and very them. They get sick the next day but it was worth it.
