some of you really aren’t gonna like this, but a creator’s wishes should never dictate what fan content is produced for a piece of media.
in the past, authors like anne rice have tried to limit the production of fanfiction. but at least rice was honest - she thought this infringed on her copywrite. back in the day, this was considered a valid argument to not create any fanfiction at all for her works.
do you understand what i’m saying? while you may sound valiant for placing a creator’s “discomfort” above the fan’s natural proclivities in fandom, really you’re just continuing to advocate for censorship in fan spaces.
and for anyone who is a creator, or who wants to become one - get comfortable with the rules of the internet. there will be erotic content made of your characters, there will be weird AUs made with your characters. there will be strange pairings and headcanons, no matter if you interact religiously with the fans or not. you cannot stop people from connecting with and wanting to be creative with your characters.

Someone asked me in good faith if I believe in a land for both Palestinians and Israelis then why do I seem to speak more to the benefit and defense of all Jewish people than I do for Palestinians and I think it's worth a bigger discussion.
Y'all the hate and misinformation in the pro-palestine movement is off the CHARTS.
A large portion of the stuff I see claiming to support Palestinians on this website that I could reblog is either:
Completely untrue and not based on anything factual
Potentially even intentional misinformation or propaganda by malicious parties
Calls for increased violence or hatred
Zealous, fanatical, fascist, or pro-terror rhetoric
Wildly unproductive and beneficial to absolutely no one. Such as things that are not in the interests of Palestinians while also managing to harm the most Jews as possible
Logical fallacies, false dichotomies, useless or offensive comparisons
Conflating Israeli government with Israeli peoples and Jews on the whole
Absolutely raging blatant antisemitism
Using the term "Zionist" as the justification for their violence, hatred, racism, and antisemitism while still feeling like they can masquerade as pro-peace love and justice without actually being critical of the systems that led to where we are now
It's a major major problem. The things we balked against in the far right in 2016 are becoming main-stays for this movement more and more and it's distressing.
I never defend Israel because...well... I don't personally support its actions. But I also cant sit silent while people seem to blindly and passionately fall for all of the traps above and feel like they're doing the progressive compassionate thing. So I try do what I can- speak out as much as possible against the flaws I see popping up in the pro palestine movement with the hope it doesn't snowball into something monstrous and far warped from its original intention. I want Palestinians to thrive but it can't and won't be through antisemitism.
We MUST find a way forward that is better than the sort of thinking that got us here.

Puritanism is getting worse around the globe and conservatives and fascists will absolutely be first going harder against porn, then use that against queer people. You HAVE to realise this and oppose anti porn measures and laws, be in solidarity with sex workers, and listen to them when they call this shit out. It's going to be vitally important.

Hi. I'm really sorry to bother you with this but I just need to scream about this.
I'm a mixed Asian Jew. After October 7th, just like everyone else, I've had to ignore the rampant antisemitism everywhere, especially in fandoms. Recently, I've noticed something that has really been scaring me and making me a million times more anxious.
I used to be very active in Kpop fandoms. Yes, I am aware Kpop fans are crazy but I used to have my circle of friends that were pretty chill. Obviously I had to unfriend all of them lol.
There's a huge trend in Kpop fandoms right now where Kpop fans do not want Kpop documentaries/movies to air in Israel. Evidence: https://x.com/CARAT4PALESTINE/status/1815400792678895980
This is not unique to Kpop fans. Beyoncé fans were angry when her movie aired in Israel. Taylor Swift fans were angry when her movie aired in Israel and so forth. However this is very scary. We can't just brush this off as "well they're crazy stans" or "yk how people on the internet are". This is going to harm us. This CURRENTLY harms us. I'm just so disturbed and angry.
It gets worse: when a Kpop boyband worked with an Israeli producer on a recent album, people were furious and wanted to boycott it. Obviously and thankfully they failed because they stan these people so hard but still. It's so fucking insane. None of this is normal.
Hi, no you are not bothering me at all.
Yeah it is not normal and very much jew hate. Whilst I'm not into kpop anymore, I used to be a fan back in 2015 - 2019 and I still get videos reccomended on my fyp on tik tok related to kpop. I have seen a lot of just vile antisemitic stuff on top of a fan cam. Which whilst sucks, is a tiny bit funny.
My favourite video i've seen from kpop stans (sarcastic) is when they will be a BTS stan, then spit some shit like "Israelis aren't civilians because they serve in the military" cause like, cool bestie your bts boys aren't civilians either by the same logic, yet you still support them.
I looked at that tweet and yeesh. "aparthied state" like idk how to tell these people, but their faves work for companies which are more focused on overworking their idols and bringing in money rather than supporting Palestine.
Like you said, these people stan so hard they forget, and after the war is over, they will still support Hybe and other companies.
And you are so right, we cannot just brush people off as crazy stans. Whilst obviously not every single kpop stan is like that, at least from my exposure to the scene, people are not really calling it out. When deranged behaviour is not kept in check by the wider community, more and more people do said deranged behaviour.

After binging THAT pirate show in one go my main takeaway is that
You know how many times I’ve seen women writing mlm being criticized because ‘women don’t know how to write men’ ‘men simply don’t think/talk/behave like that’ ‘y’all just projecting your boring romantic fantasy’?
You know how that’s 200% gonna be the main criticism for this show if the creator is not a straight guy?
So yeah it’s probably a myth that women need to consult some kind of expertise on how to write ‘authentic men’ because you can write male characters dealing with emotions like they do in this show and still make them convincing. Write whatever you like and however you want and put up your middle fingers to essentialist criticisms like that I guess.

Getting really really REALLY REALLY tired of explaining to sinophilic left-leaning western twitter users who watched like 3 subtitled c-dramas on YT and learned a handful of words why it is racist and wrong to say things like Chinese queer people are fine with encoding queer relationship as sworn siblings because of cULtuRAl DifFerENce.
Imagine how insulting and infuriating it is to see westerners who don’t even fucking read Chinese and who consider themselves to be progressive declaring to an Internet crowd that the erasure of your experience and identity by a conservative misogynistic dictatorship is completely acceptable because they somehow know Chinese culture better than you do and think they have the right to declare to the world on your behalf that this is the best rights you deserve. That’s not just ignorance or arrogance, that’s actively doing harm by normalizing the oppression of queer people in China and that plays right into the hands of a regime that knowingly allowed a carefully curated set of Chinese content to be seen on the wider Internet while access to such platforms is getting increasingly hard to average Chinese citizens.
Like yeah it’s right that queer content is heavily censored but how the fuck did they jump to the conclusion that we’re somehow all fine with censorship simply because it exists (it didn’t even exist 5 years ago but I guess it doesn’t matter because nothing existed in China before Untamed and Guardian were released to US viewers am I right) and that calling out queerbaiting and queer erasure is ‘colonizing’ Chinese queer discourse??? What kind of mental gymnastics is this???
It’s great that more people get to appreciate these gems of modern Chinese pop culture and maybe want to learn more about it but hey before logging onto the Internet and making blatant generalizations maybe some people really need to familiarize themselves first with the fact that in real life we don’t go to work wearing Hanfu or commute on flying swords or address each other as 師兄 師弟, most importantly nor are we 300 years away from comprehending that queer people are normal people and deserve equal rights including the right to be seen.

One thing I’ve been wanting to say for a whole fucking year but held back because that would quite literally mean that I’d lose most of the friends I have and I don’t have that many to begin with:
People who hate on that artist for the ao3 scandal don’t deserve the slightest sympathy. They lost access to ao3 because they are idiotic cowards who dared not question the government for the slightest bit; because they are also the ones who shower HK protestors with ruthless mockery and are fervent nationalists who support a genocidal dictatorship; because they are also so starved of a feeling of moral superiority (and all the cruelty justified under that) that they jumped at a ‘safe’ target without a second thought and would eat anyone who suggests otherwise; because they believed that doing anything - even reporting - was justified if directed at a target they consider to be evil.
For fuck’s sake the day after ao3 was banned the mouthpiece of the FUCKING GOVERNMENT WHO BANNED THE SITE THEMSELVES released an article criticizing Mr. Xiao for ‘misguiding’ his fans and those 227 idiots really rejoiced because ‘Our beloved nation gets our back’ so yeah they’re a bunch of hopeless idiot to begin with. You choose to support a genocidal dictatorship that would lock up artists for writing m/m novels and encourage people to report on each other and ultimately banned ao3. Then at least be fucking consistent and suck it up.

Tankies be like:
‘The Uyghur genocide is a lie it’s literally propaganda from the US government and comparing it to the Holocaust is anti-Semitic so anyone who refers to the voLiTionAL TraiNiNG sChOOLs as concentration camp is a Nazi!!’
‘But how can you tell it’s a lie when there are witnesses who were literally raped by Han Chinese men?’
‘The US government just said it isn’t a genocide!’

The olive tree of Vouves, on Crete. This tree, which has a trunk 15 feet in diameter, is at least 2,000 years old, and likely 2,900 years old, based on the graveyard found nearby. This tree likely lived through the writing of the Iliad, the golden age of Athens, the rise of the Roman Empire, and the birth of Christ – and then lived for 2,000 years after that. It still produces olives, as well!

The disturbing thing nowadays is that resistance as spectacle has cut loose from its origins in genuine civil disobedience and is becoming more symbolic than real. Colorful demonstrations and weekend marches are fun and vital, but alone they are not powerful enough to stop wars. Wars will be stopped only when soldiers refuse to fight, when workers refuse to load weapons onto ships and aircraft, when people boycott the economic outposts of Empire that are strung across the globe.
