Return of the Jedi
Return of the Jedi
Long time has past since my last post. So long in fact that I have bought myself a Surface Pro device and on the other hand totally abandoned my Lumia 950XL. I’m going to tell you a bit more about my Surface Pro little later, and my dreadfull wait of Surface Book which never landed to the Nordics. However this post is dedicated to my beloved Lumia which ended up turning into a brick. Last summer…

New iPhone is here - and then what?
Here's iPhone 7 - and then the hippie turned in his grave.
I started to watch Apple Keynote Event this evening, since I didn’t have anything better to do. I actually only learned today that there was going to be an Apple Event. Something that just would not have been possible only few years ago. (more…)

HAM gear review: Hytera MD785
HAM gear review: Hytera MD785. Next to perfect base radio for DMR. #HAMradio #Hytera
This time I’m writing a small review of my Hytera MD785 mobile radio – the latest newcomer in my collection. MD785 is my second Hytera radio and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. I can corfirm Hytera’s build-in quality is superb – this unit is robust and well build. All the knobs are sturdy and you can actually feel the quality. Hytera MD785 is IP54 certified which makes it dust and splash…

HAM gear review: Hytera PD365
HAM gear review: Hytera PD365 - a great little radio for starters. #Hytera #HAMradio
I bought myself an used DMR radio, not to replace my Tytera MD-390 but to explore the differences between the brands. Programming the radio I got my Hytera fully programmed for digital amateur radio channels, but I couldn’t resist trying the programming software myself. As it turned out, Hytera’s software is much more sophisticated than Tytera’s. It’s similar to Motorola’s CPS software and has…

Radio Amateur station: the desk
Radio amateur station: The desk is the most important investment.

As I’m writing this post on my balcony, the temperature outside is between 28-30 degrees celsius. And the best news is that my five week vacation starts on next monday! During the past two months…

When will this ordeal end? Probably sooner than I expected. #SurfaceBook #satyanadella

This is how a proper consumer camera should look like - would you consider buiyng one?

It has been ages since my last post, sorry about that. To be honest I haven’t had time to follow the latest tech news either, but I’ve tried to fill myself in within the past two days.
And boy have there been lots of developments since I last posted. However I’d like to shew these latest news for a while before I start to analyze them any further.
In a mean time I’d like to share few thoughts about Toronto and Canada. As I mentioned before I had a two week vacation at the largest city of Canada.
Cute little building surrounded by skyscrapers.
I didn’t want to spend my entire holiday in a 30 ft2 hotel room and I ended up leasing a two bedroom condo from the downtown. It was a good decision since I had my privacy and the location was perfect for every activity one could think of.
Let’s face it. Toronto isn’t the most beautiful city in the world. Some could say it has a face only a mother could love. They are most likely correct. But the fourth largest city in North America still has plenty of more exciting things to offer.
First of all the people are simply fantastic. Friendly, polite and helpfull – even though the city was large and life around me was hectic. The culture is different to what I’m used to. Some totally strange people started chatting with me while I was having a dinner and after a day or two I found it to be quite pleasent.
I managed to meet some wonderful people and had some really nice discussions with them. I loved the greasy and deep fried food and (let’s be honest) the drinks. There’s nothing like Old Tomorrow pale ale.
In Finland you don’t even try to approach strangers and if you dare to speak to them, you’d better have some really good question. The canadian way is better, since you don’t get too feel lonely. And it’s nice to chit-chat with some random characters every now and then.
For an ordinary tourist there’s plenty of attractions to see and experience, like CN Tower, the museums, Zoo and the Ontario Science Center. I visited some of them, but mostly I concentrated on sensing the atmosphere. I tried to visit locations outside the most obvious tourist regions to see how ordinary canadians live their lives.
I loved their efficient public transit system, altough I found the payment system to be outdated. One could literally hop on a streetcar (tram) from every corner and get to the destination quite fast. If one liked to go a bit further there was a comprehensive metro service.
Cute little building surrounded by skyscrapers.
Since canadians love their ice hockey I also felt compelled to buy tickets for a NHL game. I loved the Air Canada Center venue and the game was actually good one too. Some local guy said to me it was their best game of the season.
I also had a trip to Niagara Falls, which was a bit of a letdown. The thing that bothered me most was the fact how  artificial the place was. It was like replica of Las Vegas in nano size.
After two weeks I felt relaxed even though I managed to do more things in Toronto than I usually get to do while abroad.
I was also able to visit both Apple and Microsoft stores. I saw for the first time the Surface Book and was also able to play with it for a while. This is a story I’ll save for later.
So thanks to all the people I met, I love Canada and canadians.
Long time no see - greetings from #Toronto. This time no tech, only few observations of Canada It has been ages since my last post, sorry about that. To be honest I haven't had time to follow the latest tech news either, but I've tried to fill myself in within the past two days.
