online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.
and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.
there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.
i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

I struggle a lot with...I guess justifying(?) KimGrim. With how the Japanese fandom views Kimblee and the stage play (and the director's interview and what Arakawa allegedly had to say about it), it just seems...futile.
Sometimes, I think about giving it all up. Wondering if I'm so attached because of the sunk-cost fallacy or because I genuinely love it (which I do).
Like, if Kimblee canonically wouldn't be attracted to Ingrim, what's the point?
I know canon shouldn't matter, but I've always been a stickler for staying canon-compliant. I genuinely cannot fathom throwing canon away.
And I obsess over it all with Kimblee because there's nothing definitively canon. Just comments here and there that don't confirm anything 100%. Not to mention, I've gotten different translations from said comments that imply different things. So I don't even know what the truth is.
I hate this. I really do. I obsess over this to the point of real distress. I don't WANT to. I don't want to be like this. I don't want to start overthinking when I see anything to do with the stage play. I don't want to feel resentment for anything or anyone that conflicts with what I like. I HATE being like this.
I'm getting off topic.
I just want the security of knowing Arakawa would approve of KimGrim. And I know that's never going to happen.

Annie Ingrim's Backstory
Content/trigger warnings include:
Parentification, parental neglect, generational trauma, suicidal thoughts, loss of virginity
Annie Ingrim was born September 16, 1889, in Lotte, a small farming/ranching settlement in the southwest of Amestris.
Her parents were both only 18-years-old. They didn't have her out of love, but obligation. Because that's what you do in Lotte. You get married young to your childhood sweetheart and start popping out babies. The men either start their own farm/ranch or work on one, and the women focus on rearing the children (and helping on the farm/ranch if the family owns one). There's little to no higher education. And going to the city for it is looked down upon.
Needless to say, Ingrim wasn't wanted. She wasn't really seen as their child due to her parents' young age. Her mother, in particular, resented her incredibly.
She never liked the ranch they lived on. Her father, to his credit, recognized this. He didn't force her to work on it. The most she'd do is assist him in his work or accompany him to the market. But that just worsened her mother's resentment. She thought Ingrim should be pulling her weight despite being a literal child.
1899: So, when her parents decided they actually wanted children and had Ellen, their mother forced her onto Ingrim. Saying it's her way of contributing. Forcing the 10-year-old to care for the baby round the clock. Putting all the responsibilities on her little shoulders. Ingrim was rarely seen without the baby because their mother said she needed to keep an eye on her at all times.
Ingrim was already miserable. She couldn't express herself how she liked. She couldn't talk back. She couldn't even dress how she wanted. She had to fit the perfect mold her mother made for her. But it was never good enough. There was always something she was doing wrong.
And she was never well-liked. She hated Lotte, and that made everyone wary of her. She was the outcast of her little generation.
So putting the responsibility of a baby on Ingrim made her wilt entirely, and gave her the deep-rooted fear of being tied down. Unable to escape.
1900: It lasted over a year. Maybe even a year and a half. Ingrim wasn't allowed to tell anyone what was happening. Appearances are everything to her mother. Poor Ingrim was even kept from her grandmother, Clara, on purpose. But the old woman eventually figured out what was happening and raised absolute hell on her son and loathed daughter-in-law. She scolded them for what felt like hours, calling them every name in the book.
Clara Ingrim would've loved to take Ingrim and Ellen in, but she couldn't afford it. So she moved in with them, taking the responsibility of Ellen off of Ingrim. And she was the one who talked back to her mother, standing up for her. They never got along. Clara could see her terrible influence on her son.
Clara absolutely doted on Ingrim. She was the one who told Ingrim she wasn't a freak for hating their environment. Who fostered her love of music and fine things. Who talked her through her complicated feelings of resentment and love for Ellen. That relationship would've been unsalvageable if it weren't for her. And Clara is the one whom Ingrim later opened up to about her thoughts of suicide. Ingrim was desperate for escape. She felt suffocated with nowhere to go, so she had thoughts of suicide to make it all end. Clara was the only one Ingrim felt comfortable opening up to about that.
1902: When Ingrim was 13, Clara took her to the city for the first time. They went to see a symphony. They dolled themselves up and wore their nicest dresses. Clara let Ingrim wear her hair in this pearl hairnet she always adored.
During the symphony, something awoke in Ingrim. She finally found something that broke through the emotionless shell her mother created around her. Her life was forever changed. Their photograph together that day is her most cherished possession.
1904: Then, when Ingrim was 15, Laura was born. Ingrim immediately bonded to her due to the different circumstances surrounding their relationship. When Laura was a toddler, Ingrim was the one she'd run to when she was scared. Laura absolutely hates loud noises, so she'd run to Ingrim's room and hide under her covers during thunderstorms, and Ingrim would hold her. Ingrim was the one who suggested Laura wears earmuffs to dampen noise. Their mother hated the idea. She'd rather her child be miserable than happy existing outside the mold. But Clara stood up for Ingrim and Laura, so Ingrim bought Laura a special pair with the money she saved up, and Clara fixed them up so the pattern resembled cow spots (cows, specifically the ones on the Ingrim ranch, are her hyperfixation).
1906: At 17, Ingrim had her first and only boyfriend. A boy her age, who worked on her parents’ ranch. He was the only person among their peers who liked her, and he was always soft on her. But Ingrim wouldn't call them friends. And she never had any feelings for him. She just wanted to see what she was missing out on. But she wasn't impressed. Then, after they gave their virginities to each other in a field, she decided to break up with him. Their first time together was abysmal, and she was completely turned off staying with him. All in all, it only lasted a month.
1907: When Ingrim was 18, a military recruiter came to Lotte. She recognized it as her first chance of escape. Her mother pitched a fit. She said she should get back with her ex-boyfriend and get married like she and Ingrim's father did. It led to a massive fight between Ingrim's parents and Ingrim, with Clara backing her up. Ingrim spent the next few days silently packing. Then, when the day finally came, Ingrim said goodbye to her sisters and left Lotte with Clara's help. Even just on the train ride out, she felt free.
Ingrim wasn't out to make friends at the academy. She was so used to being isolated by her peers that she didn't even try. She kept to herself. But she always made sure to show off her aim at the gun range and things like that. Her father would take her hunting. It was the only thing he did that she was interested in. So she's a natural with firearms, and she made it known at the academy.
1909: Ingrim graduated at 20. As a graduation present, Clara gave Ingrim her pearl hairnet as a gift to show her how proud she was for leaving Lotte and doing something with her life that she wanted to do.
After graduation, Ingrim was hand picked by Lieutenant Colonel Frank Archer to work under him in the Investigations department in Central. He picks up useful tools, and chose her for her excellent marksmanship.
1910: After Ingrim was established in her career a little, she started going out at night, a habit she kept until she met Kimblee. She would go out to nice lounges to pick up men for a one-night-stand. Any attempts at anything more were quickly rebuffed.
She took professional dancing lessons at some point in this time frame.
At some point before 1914, she made 1st Lieutenant.
Late 1914/Very early 1915: Archer, being in the Court Martial office of Investigations, hears Kimblee (an old acquaintance from Ishval) is released from prison. He sends Ingrim to work with him, as they've had experience trying to track down Scar.
The story picks up when Kimblee and Ingrim meet ♡

Imagine:
Ingrim comes home from work. She gives Kimblee a kiss on the cheek.
"Oh, Ingrim. It seems our daughter is an aspiring doctor."
"Hm? Is that so? What makes you say that?" She asks teasingly.
Kimblee rolls up his arm. There's nothing on his skin.
"She's given me a 'cootie shot.'"
Ingrim can't help but laugh. They wonder amongst themselves where Clara J learned that.

Imagine:
Ingrim excitedly inviting Kimblee to her apartment to listen to the new record she bought. (She would visit him; however, she wouldn't want to interrupt his research)
He comes over, and she plays it on her record player. They admire the music together 🩷
Side note:
Modern KimGrim AU, they both absolutely collect vinyls. When they move in together, they store/display them side-by-side. But they don't mix them. Their collections are their own collections.

Laura Ingrim, age 10
She wears cow-patterned earmuffs due to her sensitivity to noise from her autism. Cows, particularly the ones on the Ingrim family ranch, are her special interest.
Ingrim was the one to give her her earmuffs (despite their cruel mother's hatred for the idea of her child standing out because of them) and their grandmother, Clara, customized them to give them cow spots.
Of course, that was shortly before Ingrim left home, so Laura was about three years old. She's outgrown that specific pair, but she keeps it in her bedroom out of love for her (mostly estranged) oldest sister.

I don't talk about Clara J much here, which is wild because I love her SO MUCH
She's so silly!!!!! She loves books and she LOOOOOOOVES her family!
This is the go-to picrew for her
https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/2306681
And this one is legit almost a 1:1 of her clothes
https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/610761
While also helping me formulate her adult design!
She grows up to be a ballerina! With a passing ability in alchemy. It's not that she isn't interested in it. She just had her own dream she followed! Her own artistic expression of herself 🩷
