going insane because cas doesn't experience time like humans do except for he touches dean's soul in hell and his whole reality goes BOING and it like does a weird record scratch moment and suddenly everything slows down around him like jello. suddenly he's not experiencing things like an angel anymore, he's experiencing time the way humanity does. "you have fallen, in every way imaginable." this is the first fall, he is suddenly embedded in time in a way he never was before and it's because dean is not a blip, he's everything.

if i am evil. i create character A, who indulges often. always eating, always fucking. but time and time again reveal that he is not hungry. he is not lustful. he performs hunger and doesnt truly feel it. he performs sexuality and doesnt truly feel it. and for fifteen years he performs indulgence into desire he doesnt feel. i create character B, who does not indulge. never eating, never fucking. but time and time again reveal that he IS hungry. he is lustful. he denies hunger but feels it deeply. he denies sexuality but feels it deeply. and for fifteen years he refuses to indulge in the desire he feels. and then. in the final season. allow character A to finally desire something. allow character B to confess his desire. and then kill them both before either is able to really indulge in something they truly desire. if i am evil. i do this.

honestly the “supernatural fandom has a gif for every situation” phenomenon becomes slightly less mystifying when you actually watch the show and witness the fact that dean says literally every combination of words known to man

nice pair of characters who trust each other more than anyone else in the whole entire world it would sure be a shame if one of them betrayed that trust for the sake of trying to keep the other alive. it would sure be a shame to love someone so much you destroy them

like in lazarus rising when dean asks “who are you?” cas could’ve should’ve answered “i’m castiel, i’m an angel of the lord” but no he needed to lead with “i’m the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition.” i love how cas saw this as the most important answer, that from his first line we know he takes pride in saving dean, that the first thing he wants dean to understand is not i’m an angel it’s you’ve been wondering who saved you and it was me it was me it was me
