Family matters are complicated, as universally accepted. Who would Iseul be to go against the universe and have a complete, healthy relationship with her blood ties?

|| ☓ 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥, 𝗢𝗛, 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥

Kim Bonhwa is alive and well, however divorced from Iseul's father. She is the head nurse at a psychiatric facility in Seongnam, Korea. The reason for their divorce was their differing visions for their future. Bonhwa had reluctantly moved to Japan with her prior husband (Dongwon) before she knew she was pregnant with Iseul, so starting a family in an unfamiliar country was not what she had in mind for herself, so after trying to suppress her feelings for a long time, she decided to escape from her life as a housewife and mother and continue working (in Korea) when Iseul was 5 years old, remarrying a man who also did not plan to have any children.

Iseul still carries resentment for her mother’s abandonment, though she has never expressed this verbally and refuses to acknowledge her mother’s existence despite living in a nearby city now. They don’t have any contact.

|| ☓ 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗙𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥

Bae Dongwon used to own a restaurant in Kobe, but moved to Seoul, Korea after Haeil’s (see: the moon, the sun, and the star) death to support his daughter through her devastating loss. He used to only be able to visit a handful times of the year, so moving closer to his daughter finally gave him the peace of mind he had wanted.

He is not very physically affectionate, however he is fiercely protective of his children and shows his love through his cooking, which Inho and Iseul are well-aware of. When Iseul had left home, she’d get teary eyed remembering her father cooking up breakfast and dinner for her and her brother. 

|| ☓ 𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥, 𝗔𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗘

Bae Eunhee was her guardian during her time as a trainee while her family was in Japan. She is her father's older sister who has never married and is an architect. Eunhee was often busy working, so they never really spent much time together with Iseul’s also hectic life as a trainee, but she always made sure to take care of her health.

The older woman would often enter Iseul’s room and kiss her forehead and tuck her in. Iseul would sometimes be awake to feel her aunt’s loving words of encouragement. She is honestly like a mother to her. During holidays and when Iseul was allowed to have a break from training, Eunhee would sometimes take her back to Kobe, Japan. 

Iseul always admired her aunt’s diligence with her work and aspires to be just as dedicated to her craft as she is. Eunhee was a good role model for her. Since she owned her firm, Eunhee had a comfortable life without the added stress of having a family, so she was able to dote on Iseul like her own daughter. She's the reason why Iseul had a financially stable couple of years despite being away from her family. She could always rely on her aunt to have her back.

|| ☓ 𝗕𝗔𝗕𝗬 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧

(Face claim as Moon Woojin) Bae Inho was born on February 8th, 2008 in Seongnam, Korea. Inho was adopted after his birth from a family friend in Korea at the time who could not take care of him. He was made aware of this fact pretty early on, however the Bae family made sure to drill into him that he is just as real of a son as Iseul is a daughter. He loves his dad and sister very much and feels no shame in being adopted at all. He is still in contact with his biological parents as they send him birthday cards and on a couple rare occasions meet up and talk with them with Dongwon present, however has no intention of returning to them, which they respect. 

Together with his father, he moved to Korea in 2017 after finding out about the loss of her sister’s closest friend and protector during her time there without her immediate family. They decided to pack up their fairly successful restaurant in Kobe, Japan and move to Seoul, where their father is now operating a restaurant called Kobe Kitchen (fictional!).

He spent the first six years of his life with his sister, then three years with only barely seeing her face to face and not just video calls. He was 9 years old at the time of Iseul moving to BigHit, 13 years old during his sister's participation in I-Land.

Currently, he is 17 years old (2025) and has a bunch of friends who fawn over his sister all the time, so he is kind of sick of it (jokingly, of course! His friends are great and like spending time with him as his own person, too! Having Bae Iseul as their friend’s sister is just a bonus!) He used to get made fun of during primary school after they’d found out he was adopted (not that it was something to hide), but he was always a no-nonsense kid, so it never really bothered him. Comically enough, it would be his bullies that would feel frustrated by their failed attempts.

He signed up for taekwondo classes as soon as they moved to Korea and now is a taekwondo athlete and Iseul sometimes comes to his competitions in disguise! He is a very bizarre person in general in a very good way! He once felt so inspired after watching Haikyuu that he decided to get a buzz cut like one of the characters. Also, Iseul and Inho often meet up for a meal in between her breaks in schedule :(

The company wouldn’t allow it at first, but after Enhypen came out of their rookie phase, Inho is now allowed to crash at their dorms from time to time and the boys love having him over. They have a blast with him even without Iseul. They love him for his unique personality and outlook on life.

He made his debut as an actor in 2024 with a Netflix drama called The Atypical family, which was a hit and made him known in the public eye. Some were against his success, blaming it on his famous sister, however this wasn’t something anyone knew about during the audition and casting process. The boys tease him for his on-screen young love.

Chaein of Purple Kiss has a voice similar to how I imagine her to have. It's very melodic, slightly nasal and especially recognizable in Enhypen's music because of her tone. Here is a sample where she (Iseul) sings the demo for T4KE, a song she gave to a good friend in the group Purple Kiss! (Hello, wall break moment in-universe) As for her rapping, she is known for having unique flows and deliveries. A similar rapper would be Yeeun of CLC/Elz7up, but not quite. I (Yaren, yours truly) will show her skills in a further post.

Jang Yeeun, best known as the rapper of CLC and now a member of the Mnet girl group Elz7up is Iseul's face claim as of 2024!

Iseul has a strong background in commercial dancing and she has always been a massive fan of K-pop dances (especially the more robust and energetic boygroup choreographies), so she has very well integrated herself into Enhypen, a group predominantly filled with male members. Her dancing is most similar to Kyujin of NMIXX and Seulgi of Red Velvet. Sharp, energetic, and filled with power! Here is a sample clip of her during a live session dancing to Baggy Jeans by NCT U:

Park Jay is the memories of a home with a loving father making her favourite foods. To Iseul, he is a glimpse into the past before the biggest decision she has had to make in life, one that drew the course of her life for the next decade. In him she finds solace, able to escape into times less complicated.

Overall, I think they are pretty neatly balanced. If Jay were to be described as fire, Iseul is the ice to his wounds, burns, aches, and rage. Jay is pretty patient (that is the understatement of the century, because I wonder what sorcery keeps him sane through all of the group’s shenanigans), but he is easily fired up. 

Jay is quick to burn with passion and is easily frayed at injustice, though he pushes through wonderfully and quite admirably, he doesn’t give up once he meets a seemingly impossible climb. However this raging fire burning within him needs to be gently put out for his own sake and Iseul does just that. The Fire and Ice analogy doesn’t quite fit them, now that I think. That would be quite a volatile combination, so we’ll take a turn and call them Fire and Sand. 

She can gently bring him down to the ground 

Unlike Jay’s very visible fire, the heat of Iseul’s passion and ambition is, like aforementioned, how sand behaves. It doesn’t seem to be burning hot at first, but there are those of you who would know very clearly how dangerous sand can become under the blazing sun. 

Once Iseul reaches that point, it’s very difficult to calm her down and it’s not like a fire that can be put down. The heat lingers dangerously for a long while.

Anyway! Jay and Iseul can be quite domestic at times. Both of them fulfill the much needed mother and father position in all groups. 

Even further, they both claim the title as the ones who’ve raised Riki for the past years (yes, all of the members had a great hand in taking care of their youngest, but Riki’s Japanese heritage was a gap they couldn’t cross much) because they are much closer in terms of knowing the culture he grew up in with Jay being curious since young, thus learning a great deal, and Iseul literally being raised in Japan until the same age as Riki (See: Iseul moving to Korea to train at 13-14)

hello everyone!! (yaren here) it might be a little early to be asking this (or maybe the perfect time to do so since we're still very new and there are a very small, but very precious, bunch of you guys hehe so!! what would you like to see from BICU (Bae Iseul Cinematic Universe)? I obviously have a bunch of things planned and prepped, but in addition to those, i would love to give you something you'd like, too!!

Bae Iseul is the only person who can ever scare Nishimura Riki (with love!). As the proclaimed mother of the group, Iseul is always attuned to Riki's needs and emotions, since he is/was so young. She knows the importance of a solid support and guidance system, so she has been exactly that for him and he could not be more grateful.

|| ☓ 𝗗𝗬𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗖𝗦

Iseul’s cool little man! 

She used to see eye to eye with him before, but after his growth spurt, she has to strain her neck. To prevent this from happening, Riki is always leaning/crouching down whenever he has something to say to her. 

During group appearances, she stands next to him a lot and often is a step in front of him, which he appreciates a lot as he sees her as a protector figure and is more comfortable having her before him. There are a lot of fan-captured pictures of him whispering stuff in her ear and her nodding along either cracking up and agreeing or frowning and turning to reply. The tea is real, everyone. 

Since she also grew up in Japan, she obviously has a very close bond with him and having her in the group was a huge relief to Riki. Even if she hadn’t been raised in Japan and could share his sentiments and culture, he would’ve still been relieved. He knows that if he is ever in need of help, she will be there. Often she’d stepped in between him and the staff berating him when he was young. 

Riki went through his teen years in Enhypen and very naturally went through many difficulties throughout puberty. Sometimes he would act up and sometimes he’d make off-remarks without fully thinking about the effect it has on the people around him, so she would step up into an older figure role and scold him and lead him to become a better person. He sees her as family. 

Following that up, Iseul has actually met all of his family and is practically part of the Nishimura family. Riki’s older sister is still three years younger than her, so she became quasi the oldest sibling of the family. Iseul’s brother was born in 2008, so Riki made sure to pay Iseul’s kindness forward and take care of him like his own. It feels very special to be a boy’s older brother, since he is the youngest in Enhypen and his younger sibling is also a girl.

Riki is mischief personified, so it's no surprise whenever havoc is wreaked and he's at the core of it, but every once in a while he'd become too unmanageable for the other members and Iseul would have to step in

Step in, as in stand with her hands on her hips and clearing her throat with a pointed stare at him and he would instantly pipe down and apologize

Her authority only goes so far, as sometimes she'd be the butt of his jokes and teasing as well!! Always a fun day whenever he gets to pull a fast one on her and the amusement is so very clear on his face whenever he does haha

He will always be her little man, though :(

Yang Jungwon loves Bae Iseul, that is undoubted. In public and in private, he shows his admiration without hiding. He doesn't feel the need to display his respect and adoration in secret, because he believes that everyone in the world should know how lucky he is!

|| ☓ 𝗗𝗬𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗖𝗦

Jungwon adores Iseul period. I don’t think you get how serious this is for him. Heart eyes every time she appears. You would see him frowning while assessing their group performance, but let out a smize whenever she takes front and center. A large chunk of the Jungwon screenshots online are of his profile because he is always turned to her. Being this obvious with his affections does not concern him. He is an honest person and being in the same team as his Iseul noona is an honor and delight. Honestly, it has been obvious since their first appearance on I-land together that he would follow her to the ends of the earth.

Iseul is aware of Jungwon’s adoration and finds it so heartwarming and never takes his love for granted. Though she doesn’t feel any sort of romantic feelings for him, she does love him to bits and is very comfortable around him. She was one of the leading voices in putting him up as the leader. She trusts his judgment completely and whenever he is in doubt, she listens and gives advice with great care.

His eyes shine whenever she interacts with him and it is comically funny seeing literal hearts come out of his eyes. Rest assured that there are hours long compilations of this phenomenon. 

Fans are divided into two: those who ship them as romantic partners (not to fret, they make up a very small minority of Engenes) and those who are entertained to no end by their bond, whatever it is.

It’s very ambiguous. No one can tell if Jungwon is actually in love with his older member or if he’s just a very big fan of her. Don’t tell this to anyone, but even Jungwon doesn’t really know where his feelings lie. It’s all very innocent and pure. He is just happy to spend a lot of time with her.

Jungwon is her late-night diary, in which she entrusts her deepest secret with him first before anyone else and he keeps them hidden, locked safely away until she feels ready to open up to the other members as well. It's easy to see the extent of their trust in each other from the way they speak so highly of each other and are able to wordlessly communicate.

Seeing Jungwon’s side profile more often than his full face because he keeps looking around for Iseul. Stay still, damn it.

You can hear a lot of adlibs from Jungwon in her self-made music. He is also credited in a few, since he often has great input. He is always very proud of those.

Jungwon was the first person who found out about her past and about Haeil (see: Chapter : Sun, Moon, Star). For a while she asked him to keep it under wraps as she didn’t want everyone to pity her, so he kept it from the other members until the day came where she fully opened up to her new family.

She always films his dance videos and Engenes constantly thank Iseul for blessing them with more Jungwon content.

Just like how his every two sentences has the word Jay in them, he talks about Iseul quite often as well.

She often messes with his hair because it’s somehow always so soft and fluffy (cat!Jungwon, anyone?)

|| ☓ 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗜𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗞

Jungwon is, as said above, often caught smiling to no ends whenever Iseul is involved in whatever is happening around him and quite a lot of the times, the smile he gives is identical to each other!!

The members would be talking amongst themselves and Iseul would chime in with a couple of her own comments and his dimples appear instantly :(

Or in another instance, Iseul had been trying to have the members guess an emoji in a miming game for some youtube content and he'd laughed the whole way through without ever trying to guess :')

Iseul would be off camera and enter the room to quickly get something she needed and Jungwon would be on a live and the moment he starts smiling his signature iseul-is-here-smile, engenes would spam the comments asking for her to appear!!

Bae Iseul (Hangul: 배 이슬), born October 1st of 2001, making her the oldest in the group by two weeks. The singer-songwriter was born and raised in Kobe, Japan until she was thirteen years old, later on moving to Korea alone in order to train under JYP Entertainment (2014 — 2015), Cube Entertainment (2015 — 2017), and finally settling at HYBE Label's BigHit Entertainment (2017 — ongoing) and later on moving to their subsidiary, Belift Lab.

Iseul is fully Korean despite growing up in Japan, consequently being fluent in Japanese and Korean, which gives the group a considerable advantage over their foreign activities with her fellow member Ni-ki. This is not to say that her English skills are lacking, as she most definitely is on her way to becoming fluent in the language thanks to the constant help from her English-speaking members.

The performer has a father, Bae Dongwon, who owns and runs a restaurant in Seoul, previously in Kobe before relocating in 2017, called Kobe Kitchen, specialising in Japanese cuisine specific to the city of Kobe and its surroundings. Many of Iseul's acquaintances and friends have been spotted frequenting the restaurant and thanks to them, the restaurant has had a steadily growing number of loyal customers and excited tourists alike who are curious about their favourite celebrities' most visited hotspots!

Along with a well-known father in the culinary world, Iseul has a younger brother, Bae Inho, who has entered the entertainment scene and stolen our hearts with his role as Han Joonwoo in the hit Netflix show The Atypical Family! Only sixteen years old as of 2024, we are curious to see on what his next steps will be as an actor. There have been a few captured moments that have gone viral among fans of Enhypen of Inho being spotted with the members, so it's clear that he is well-loved by Iseul's group members, not to mention the singer herself posting countless pictures of their time spent together during her off days!

Iseul had been known to the public before her debut as Enhypen and her Instagram account (@ dewbaedrop) had a decent following as well, so she hasn't deleted her account post-debut. As of 2024, she boasts an impressive amount of followers on her personal account, which stands at almost 12M. Her impact as a K-Pop group member and as a solo artist herself is quite noteworthy. Good examples would be her accolades as being a global ambassador for Prada with her fellow Enhypen members, as well as being the first global ambassador for Buccellati in the Korean music world. She was offered to take on the highly revered position in early 2023 and has been working with them ever since. Along with Buccellati, Iseul is the Korean ambassador for another luxury jewelry brand, Chopard.

Iseul has consistently shown her skills and undeniable presence as a performer, but a lesser known fact, perhaps, would be the amount of writing credits she has gathered for herself throughout the years! She officially has 27 registered credits on both Enhypen songs and her own solos, however the number should triple when her label gives her the green light to release her other finished songs. As she was originally a rapper, Iseul finds great pride in having written her own music and is always expressing her desire to contribute more to Enhypen's music as well.

Hello, everyone. I would like to introduce myself as the brain behind the BICU (Bae Iseul Cinematic Universe). You can refer to me as Yaren! I am twenty years old and a full-time university student and hustler. I've been a fan of Enhypen since their ye ol' I-land days (nightmares, more appropriately) and have decided on sharing my creativity through Iseul.

I would like to encourage you to interact with this blog freely using the ask button, as it would make this whole place more engaging and fun! Be it questions about Iseul herself or directed towards me or my writings, feel free.

However, before deciding to follow her journey, please be aware of the following content: mental health discussions, very raw moments between people, darker themes such as suicide and suicidal ideations and all of the trauma that comes with it, stalking, specific eating behaviours and messy familial relationships. All very real things in this life and idols aren't excluded from living through them.

I have absolutely no intentions of ever harming anyone through my work and mean no disrespect at all towards victims who live through these. During her time in Cube, she’d honed herself into a menace of a rapper. Originally, she’d entered as a dancer with previous experience under JYP Entertainment and another lesser known dance studio where she'd gotten to find her own style, however, her sense of rhythm and flow had taken the instructors by surprise, leading Iseul into training on it extensively. Natural talent combined with endless hours of practice is a success bound to come true. Iseul has a rather soft, low voice when left naturally, however she modulates her voice to have more impact when rapping.

She only ever got as good at singing as she is through coaching. When she’d entered, some fellow trainees had told her to stick to rapping, insinuating how she wouldn’t ever be a good vocalist. Now she stands as one of the pillar voices in Enhypen, since she doesn’t often get the opportunity to rap. Iseul is known for her consistency during live performances. Her stability is top notch, given how as a rapper she had learned how to conserve energy and put time into learning the proper breathing techniques for her longevity as an artist. She’s often at the adlibs and takes on the final chorus most of the time, serving as the song’s climax.

Being a good dancer in a performance-heavy group is a must. Especially in Enhypen, constantly praised for their impeccable dances. Her dancing is probably what made her a good fit into the group, able to blend in with the boys without any issues. Before their debut, fans of the boys were skeptical about her inclusion in the group despite being the only girl to survive in I-Land, which was more than enough to prove her strength and skills. To this day, there are still those waiting for her to leave the group. Riki sings praises about her skills all the time, so if that’s not enough proof, I don’t know what else to tell you.

|| ☓ 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔 𝗕𝗔𝗘 𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗨𝗟

Bae Iseul, the Vampire Queen. Quite a dramatic title, to be fair. In part due to her ice-cold complexion and piercing gaze, but mostly because of her role within the group storyline as this powerful vampire entitiy, quite often depicted wearing a crown and/or on a throne. Enhypen’s choreographies often have the boys revolving around her or her controlling the movements of her “subjects” at times.

As cold as she may come across upon first glance (no thanks to Hybe’s insistence on keeping up a certain facade), she is very loveable once you get to know her. She is the oldest Enhypen member, and yet she is often seen loved by the members as though she were the youngest. Other idols who are unfamiliar with the group can misunderstand Iseul's demeanor and might be put off by how intimidating her presence is with the seven boys lining up and following behind her whenever they walk towards the stage, but they have a massive respect for the idol.

Being the only female member in a male dominated group, Iseul has always been an easy target for critics, however HYBE has always stood strong behind their decision. Seeing her confidence and abilities in I-land, it was clear how she would fit into the group just fine, regardless whether or not she'd have other female contestants survive and debut with her. Together with Heeseung as the oldest members, they serve well in holding everyone together and with a leader like Jungwon, Engenes can rest assured that their favourite group will live a long and bountiful career.

Enhypen showing Iseul utmost respect under all conditions is what has made winning over the rest of the world's respect more accomplishable as well. Seeing the boys' unconditional trust and their willingness to comply because of said (mutual) trust is heartwarming to see. It isn't hard to see that the boys hold Iseul to a higher degree than most and how she always strives to be the pillar they deserve. Her resolve is unshakeable and once she sets her mind on doing something, she will get it done no matter the stakes and cost.

|| ☓ 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗕𝗔𝗘 𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗨𝗟

The pride she has as a rapper shines through in Enhypen’s songwriting credits. Most often, she is credited as a co-writer on their B-sides. HYBE hasn’t let her write a full song for Enhypen yet, but her solos are well loved. She talks about her writing process and shares the exact lines she’s written on her weverse lives. Fans have a running gag where they greet Iseul and only Iseul with a good morning and good night, since most of their favorite parts and album intros were written by her.

She has been credited on Enhypen's albums since their first comeback for their song Fever, having contributed massively to the song's lyrics. Afterwards, it has been an Enhypen tradition to always have her name on one of their songs each time they release a new album. Her Japanese prowess has also proven to be a big advantage while writing their Japanese versions of existing songs!

Iseul has released many songs of her own since the beginning of 2023! Though she hasn't officially debuted on stage yet, she has many music videos and a Spotify page of her own. As of 2024, Iseul has nine songs released, which are all successes in their own rights. Even with less than ten songs officially released, netizens praise the singer for already having a wide range of genres she has dabbled in— from pop, to ballad, to rap, and everything in between. Engenes can't wait for her solo album set to release some time next year!

Iseul has expressed many times how (in the future) she sees herself as an artist who gets to create freely without any boundaries put between her and her art.

|| ☓ 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗘 𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗨𝗟

Bae Iseul (Hangul: 배 이슬), born October 1st of 2001, making her the oldest in the group by two weeks. The singer-songwriter was born and raised in Kobe, Japan until she was thirteen years old, later on moving to Korea alone in order to train under JYP Entertainment (2014 — 2015), Cube Entertainment (2015 — 2017), and finally settling at HYBE Label's BigHit Entertainment (2017 — ongoing) and later on moving to their subsidiary, Belift Lab.

Iseul is fully Korean despite growing up in Japan, consequently being fluent in Japanese and Korean, which gives the group a considerable advantage over their foreign activities with her fellow member Ni-ki. This is not to say that her English skills are lacking, as she most definitely is on her way to becoming fluent in the language thanks to the constant help from her English-speaking members.

The performer has a father, Bae Dongwon, who owns and runs a restaurant in Seoul, previously in Kobe before relocating in 2017, called Kobe Kitchen, specialising in Japanese cuisine specific to the city of Kobe and its surroundings. Many of Iseul's acquaintances and friends have been spotted frequenting the restaurant and thanks to them, the restaurant has had a steadily growing number of loyal customers and excited tourists alike who are curious about their favourite celebrities' most visited hotspots!

Along with a well-known father in the culinary world, Iseul has a younger brother, Bae Inho, who has entered the entertainment scene and stolen our hearts with his role as Han Joonwoo in the hit Netflix show The Atypical Family! Only sixteen years old as of 2024, we are curious to see on what his next steps will be as an actor. There have been a few captured moments that have gone viral among fans of Enhypen of Inho being spotted with the members, so it's clear that he is well-loved by Iseul's group members, not to mention the singer herself posting countless pictures of their time spent together during her off days!

Iseul had been known to the public before her debut as Enhypen and her Instagram account (@ dewbaedrop) had a decent following as well, so she hasn't deleted her account post-debut. As of 2024, she boasts an impressive amount of followers on her personal account, which stands at almost 12M. Her impact as a K-Pop group member and as a solo artist herself is quite noteworthy. Good examples would be her accolades as being a global ambassador for Prada with her fellow Enhypen members, as well as being the first global ambassador for Buccellati in the Korean music world. She was offered to take on the highly revered position in early 2023 and has been working with them ever since. Along with Buccellati, Iseul is the Korean ambassador for another luxury jewelry brand, Chopard.

Iseul has consistently shown her skills and undeniable presence as a performer, but a lesser known fact, perhaps, would be the amount of writing credits she has gathered for herself throughout the years! She officially has 27 registered credits on both Enhypen songs and her own solos, however the number should triple when her label gives her the green light to release her other finished songs. As she was originally a rapper, Iseul finds great pride in having written her own music and is always expressing her desire to contribute more to Enhypen's music as well.
