Lawrence himself had never sought VALIDATION       from others. Everything he did, he owned up to, the good and the bad.       He never understood James’ pressing NEED for his attention, for his       approval. The boy had grown up, had risen through the ranks of the       Navy, had become the youngest to achieve the rank of Commodore       —- yet, still, he was never QUITE satisfied, was he? No matter. The       world was harsh. Surely, James knew that by now. If he didn’t learn       – on his own – to know the worth of what he had, the world would       TAKE it from him just as easily.

Lawrence set down his pen and folded his hands on his desk, staring at James. He’d noticed the boy dancing around a certain something these past few days, but he certainly hadn’t expected this to be what he was avoiding. Of course, Lawrence had always hoped that one of his sons would carry on his legacy of excellence in His Majesty’s service, and James had indeed seemed to be best suited to the task, but that didn’t stop the man from worrying that his experience with that damned pirate had deterred him from that. “ You consider yourself to be ready for the Navy? Tell me -- what is it you hope to accomplish? ”

James nodded solemnly at his father’s reprimand, smoothing down the collar of his shirt and straightening his waistcoat for good measure. “I’m sorry, sir.” he responded contritely, closing the door behind him as he tried to refrain from fidgeting over the question he was about to ask. He had graduated from Eton merely a week before, and already, some of his classmates were preparing for university. Although his schoolmasters had praised him on his intellect, especially impressive as he was merely twelve, and encouraged him to consider Oxford or Cambridge, there was no question in his mind that he wanted a life on the high seas, and he knew—or at least, thought he knew—that his father expected him to go into the Navy as well. “I…I was wondering if you could help me in obtaining a commission?”

THEME INCLUDES : one header 750x165px, hovers/snaps to another one of the same size. hover over fleur de lis for more info, tabs for askbox and nav, six links, one-three 100x130px images, searchbar, centered background (the one in image is 2000x2000px).

CUSTOMIZATION : most titles and texts are customizable, posts only come in 400px, however. i 100% gave up on this but here’s the customizable version anywho.

BOOLEANS : boolean to include the hover desc is automatically disabled. if you wish to add the thing, it will need to be enabled & edited within the html. ctrl + f ‘hover content’ to find the coding easily. tabs are on automatically, and the navigation sections are optional.
