Challenge Traditional river mapping has relied on manual surveys in shallow areas using RTK equipment, or in kayaks and boats to the middle of the Lakes. Launching was dangerous for surveyors, and in turbulent waters, kayaks and boats were difficult to secure, resulting in inefficiencies that hampered the rapid progress of the project. To this end, the census team chose to use the unmanned ship integrated survey system to replace the traditional manual measurement. The surveyors only need to dispatch the unmanned surveying ship on the shore and read the data returned by it to complete the surveying work. The humid air conditions on the shore and the unbearable heat from the midday sun, as well as the variable weather outdoors, threaten the electronic equipment used to assist surveyors in reading and recording data. Most of the ordinary mobile electronic devices have not received special reinforcement treatment, and their durability and stability are difficult to adapt to the harsh on-site environment. Therefore, the frequent failures caused the on-site operation to be unable to proceed smoothly, and the project schedule was forced to extend. In addition, due to the long-term exposure to the outdoors, a sunlight-readable display, a small size that is easy to carry, and a sufficiently powerful battery have become necessary conditions to measure whether a device meets the needs of users. With these requirements in mind, the water census team set its sights on the market for rugged data-collection tablets, which can operate all day in wet conditions.

Solution While looking for the most reliable rugged tablet, the water conservancy census team found the EM-I22K. The I22K is a fully portable data acquisition tablet with an IP65 rating and ruggedness tested according to MIL-STD-810G US military standard to withstand dust, water, accidental drops and an operating temperature of up to 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit), its excellent extreme environmental resilience meets the expectations of the census team. How Telematics Can Help Protect Against Nuclear Verdicts - RuggTablets

Fatal accidents are a tragic occurrence for all parties involved. The transportation industry – including telematics providers – should make preventing these tragedies its highest priority. With the use of telematics, the latest in video technology, and connected vehicles, many of these incidents can be prevented through consistent – and proactive – vehicle maintenance and continuous driver monitoring, coaching and evidence-based accountability, saving countless dollars across the industry and, more importantly, many lives. For better or worse, the proliferation of civil cases with jury verdicts totaling more than $10 million, known as “nuclear verdicts,” has significantly altered the business of fleet management. For instance, insurance premiums have doubled every several years while general inflation marches at a much smaller pace, according to The Wall Street Journal. When a nuclear verdict hits a mid-sized trucking company, it often triggers a ripple effect throughout the industry. While the company that faces the judgment could be bankrupted, others that have nothing to do with it could see their insurance premiums spike as well. This economic fall-out comes from the financial needs insurance providers have to keep cash reserves available for massive verdict-induced payouts. With more nuclear verdicts in the industry, more cash is needed. With every verdict, each fleet client is seen as a riskier and riskier business - even if nothing has changed within a particular fleet. In our latest Going the Extra Mile episode, you can hear from the women themselves sharing their experiences working in a traditionally male-dominated industry.   Without further ado, meet our International Women’s Day hidden heroes:     Beth Jones, transport manager at T Alun Jones UK Beth Jones is a transport manager at T Alun Jones – a family-run haulage, storage and distribution company in Mid-Wales that operates a large fleet of vehicles from one of four sites on the Shropshire/ Powys border. Beth is responsible for managing the fleet, safeguarding driver wellbeing, and driving forward the business’ operational efficiencies. When asked what her advice is for women considering a career in transport, Beth commented: “Just go for it and show them how it’s done. Don’t take no for an answer. They’ll soon get to love you and appreciate how the variation of personalities works brilliantly.”   Courtney Sertdemir, talent acquisition manager at the Australia Post Group  Interviewed by Jennie Tran, marketing executive at Teletrac Navman, Courtney Sertdemir specializes in external recruitment for transport across the Australia Post Group and Startrack. Fiona is passionate about putting the focus back on those behind the wheels in the industry. She works alongside others to improve the wellbeing and workplace culture in the transport sector. In Fiona’s interview, she speaks on the benefits of more women being represented in the industry.
