I’m helping to dogsit for my older brother and I went to give the dog some water this morning and when I went to pick up the bowl, there was an ENORMOUS. SPIDER. RIGHT THERE. so I’m like well SHIT. if I try to squish it, it might jump on me and then we’re gonna have a Bad Time.
but my brother’s got this rolly ball in the dog dish to help her slow down and not inhale her food so bad, so i try rolling that around to see if it’ll squish it. nope. the ball doesn’t conform to the sides of the bowl. so i’m like. FINE. be a grown up. just put it outside.
...i nudge the bowl toward the front door with my foot and then finally pick it up and rush outside and flip the bowl upside down to get the spider out. i carefully lift it to look and.... well. when i flipped the bowl, i guess the ball landed right on the spider.
it got squished right when i was trying to NOT squish it. welp. i tried.

God, I can't tell you how much the "there's not enough enrichment in my enclosure" joke has helped my mental health. Because, for some reason I can't comprehend, pretending that I'm a zoo keeper caring for an animal (which is also me) just makes everything easier to comprehend. Like "Your head gets screwey when you're apartment is messy" just doesn't carry as much resonance as "The tiger becomes agitated when its enclosure is cluttered" because then I'll be like, no shit? The tiger? I've gotta keep things nice and clean for the tiger.
