Honestly I only invented the term because I wanted a Batman/Joker blog and the intention was that it was meant as bat jokes - as in jokes involving bats that Joker would tell. It wasn't until later that you folks stole it as a ship name. xD

Batjokes Discord Server

Want to chat to other batjokes people? See fanart and fanfiction before it gets posted? Talk about Batman theories? Well, we have just the thing for you; a batjokes discord server so you can live chat to all the shippers out there!

We’re currently accepting new members to our server by way of queue - how it works is fairly simply; you join the discord server listed below and your name goes onto a waiting list. In a few days, you get invited to the main batjokes server. We’re doing this to try limiting the overwhelming feeling; we have over 50 members at the moment and a lot more are interested!

First, I’d like to welcome all the new Batjokes shippers that came from watching the Lego Batman movie. :) If you’re into the fluffy cute side of this normally twisted ship and would like more cute content like you saw in the lego verison, I think the Batjokes in Batman: The Brave and the Bold might be appealing to you as well! :) They even team up in one episode, it’s fantastic. Here’s a clip of it on YT: x 

Now I’d like to move onto a topic I think is important to be discussed with all these new shippers arriving: if you only like the fluffy cute version of this ship, that’s fine! I understand that a lot of you are not a fan of Joker in most versions (mostly because of how awful he is to Harley) and I completely respect that. You ship what you want to ship!

But I would just like to politely ask you to treat us (a.k.a. people who ship Batjokes in all kinds of versions) with the same respect. I’ve been shipping Batjokes since 2011 and through the years I’ve gotten a lot of hate for shipping it because well … it’s a dark twisted ship (some user even talked shit about me & the ship on their blog after they found out I was shipping it). 

But the darkness of it is also appealing to me and part of the reason I ship it so much. I adore villains (not in a romanticised way – I fully acknowledge they’re awful people) and I loveee exploring complex, fucked up relationships in fiction.

And I’ve already seen people saying that anyone who ships Batjokes outside the Lego verse is problematic and bad. And that makes me really sad. Where do you think that the creators of the Lego movie got their inspiration for the Batjokes we got in it? Batman and Joker have a long history of homoerotic subtext. Some creators even flat out admitted that Joker is in love with Batman. You have to remember that there would be no amazingly adorable Lego Batjokes without its previous versions and their long history.

We’re not bad people for liking Batjokes outside of the Lego version. Everyone knows that a relationship like this is a big no in real life and shouldn’t be supported outside of fiction. Or Joker himself for that matter – he’s a fun entertaining villain but obviously no sane person supports someone like that in real life.

Anyway to conclude this little post, ship what you want to ship and respect each other. Older Batjokes fans: don’t try to force all other versions of the ship on the new shippers or call them “fake fans” (not that I’ve seen anyone do that btw - I’m saying it just in case because I’ve seen other fandoms do it with different stuff) if they only like the Lego version. And new shippers: please don’t post condescending hateful posts in the tag / send us hate for liking this ship in other versions. Let’s all share this tag with love and respect.

Introducing the Valentine’s Day Batjokes Event

Are you a creative person? Have you read too few comics? Do you like the idea of Batman and Joker putting their mouths together? If you’ve answered yes to these questions then we have the event for you!

Between now and February 13th, 11:59 pm EST, the Batjokes Discord Server is hosting a fanworks event! If you create a new batjokes fanworks piece and show us, we’ll throw your name in a virtual hat. On Valentine’s Day, we’ll draw a couple of names out of said hat and the random winners will get eGift Cards to Comixology.com, a digital comics distributor.

How does this work?

Every person who wants to enter has the option to submit new batjokes fanworks. Write a fanfiction, draw some fanart, make a fanvideo or fanmix. Everyone who enters gets the chance to win a prize. There is no judging, no skill level required, it’s all chance and for fun.

To submit, you can send us a link to this tumblr or in the discord server. You can also post your work to your own blog and tag it #BatjokesHolidayEvent or mention us. We’ll be collecting entries here for our followers to see.

Prizes will be sent in the form of an online gift card to an email address. No personal details needed! And then you can buy comics of your choice.

Batjokes Chatroom Schedule

Hello everyone! I’m @ashtosilver​ and I host a weekly chatroom for batjokes fans to come and talk to each other! This week I’m switching things up a little, so this post covers what you need to know if you’d like to join in.

How do I join?

We use an online service called Chatzy! It works in your browser, on a computer or a mobile device and you don’t need to download anything or register an account to use it. Totally free and anonymous.

The chatroom is protected by a universal password that everyone uses, so you’ll need to get this from either @ashtosilver​ or this blog. Send me an ask or a message letting me know you’d like to join; I’ll give you the password and then someone will send you reminders a bit before each event.

So what are you doing?

The schedule is more or less the same every week, but we’re making a few changes this week to when it starts. Here are the events;

Are there rules?

We don’t have a lot of hard and fast rules, but there’s a few things to know;

We strive to create a positive, friendly environment for people to feel safe in. This means that we emphasis positive involvement instead of negative. We talk about what we like, not what we dislike. We encourage. We enjoy. It’s not for everyone, but ultimately it makes the most people feel welcome.

We also have a conversational safeword; if you’re is uncomfortable, you can say “craisins” and the topic will be immediately changed. We ask you to respect this if you see it. As well, all users with stars before their names are moderators who help keep the chatroom running. You can ask them if you have questions.

hello everyone, glad to see you’re all still kicking - there are a LOT of new people recently, and I saw a lot of old faces (can’t believe you guys still have the same URLs and avatars).

A post is going to go up tomorrow about a batjokes chatroom and a couple of events we’ll be holding. It’s free and open for all batjokes fans to partipicate in and a ton of fun. Hopefully I’ll get to see some of you people there!

... it has been over two years since this blog has been active, but I may, in fact, be doing something about that now.

Hey everyone, I’m A, or Alex, or Ashes, depending upon what you want to call me. If you don’t know me, I was the original coiner of the name batjokes a few years back and I used to run a website called batjokes.com. My health took a turn for the worse and eventually I sort of abandoned the project when it was that or my health. I have gotten a lot better and I started to get back into writing fanfiction more seriously recently.

I am hoping to revive this blog to be an active batjokes blog, though I’m not yet sure the form this’ll take. At the moment, I hope you are all doing well and I should have more news available soon.
