hm yeah i think this is one of those theories that comes down to how much you believe in SJM as an author. reminds me of the whole thing about hofas being pretty anti-colonialist in its messaging and fandom discussing "did sjm intentionally write it as an allegory for israel/palestine from an anti-zionist perspective, or is she still a zionist who just used basic YA rebellion themes and Did Not clock the parallels?"

this is why i feel like a 'tamlin redemption' moment is coming sooner or later. like... you don't just *write* stuff like this unless it means something. sjm very consciously presenting tamlin as committed to justice and directly subverting the "evil ex-boyfriend trope" ("did you think [feyre was] enough to turn me from [being 'good']?" is interesting to me

i think in acotar-critical circles we can lose focus of how a lot of fey+sand's negative moments are sjm very intentionally writing it as them coming off poorly-- eg. lucien saying to feyre "you can be just as much of an asshole as that mate of yours" when she makes fun of the BoE's name. moments like those which aren't just sjm clearly not considering how certain actions come off a lot poorer than she intended makes me think we *are* supposed to examine if feyre and her Gang are gonna be an antagonistic force later down the line

i think it's Interesting that nesta has become the new 'protag' and she repeatedly and intentionally bucks against rhysand's authority, calls him out, and Does Not Like Him
