ArtistStatement

Billy Cadden is 28 years old. He is me and he was born in Woodstock, NY. In constant flux, I can never say for certain what he is trying to say. Each project is its own beast that he tames with whatever come to his mind the moment he is looking at it. I parody.

Animals appear in his works quite often. We and I both love animals. He often blends multiple realities. Digital realities. Film. Sound. Collage. We refer to pop culture with words and pictures. Sometimes I don’t refer to pop culture or reality at all. The world is unexpected, so why should I expect to know what should come on the canvas. Rules. It is personal for him. I concur. The possible seems true and the truth exists, but it has many hips— and they don’t lie.

By using puns, distortions and violence, he makes works that can be seen as works. Sometimes they can be seen as idiotic and quirky, but at other times, they cannot be seen at all.

My “works are saturated with obviousness, mental inertia, clichés and bad jokes” (alternative facts P. 52). Billy Cadden currently lives and works in New York.
