“As much as I love buttered toast, a toast does not a breakfast make,” Obo announced, frowning at a loose button on his shirt before his attention turned back to the rumble in his stomach. “Lets go look for sweets. And bread. The bread here is very good. And honey. I might as well bring a bag, right?”

𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 rowan’s features as she looks over at obo. “i suppose it is about time for second breakfast, is it not?” she hums in response. “i do not expect the elves to offer it to us, so i presume we will have to get it for ourselves, if we want it. where would we begin to look? do you know where the kitchens are, obo?” she asks, raising a brow curiously. “sweets, bread and honey do sound good right about now...” she adds, her hand moving to her stomach as it growls at the idea of the food items obo had mentioned.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 taste of home. in all other ways, rivendell was vastly different from the shire, but gardens were certainly something that helped rowan feel a bit more at ease. she didn’t want to think too hard on what lies ahead -- not yet -- and the gardens were a good escape from that. a book in hand, the hobbit looks around for a place to sit and read before she’s caught off guard by aranuir, not having noticed him before and jumping when he finally spoke up. “yes, funny you should find me at all -- i am awfully smaller than you.” she retorts, joking, as she smiles up at him. “i do not know how i did not notice you in the first place, with how tall you are. perhaps my head is just elsewhere these days... do you spend a lot of time here?” she asked, looking around the gardens and then back at aranuir.

OPEN STARTER — RIVENDELL GARDENS

aranuir had always enjoyed these gardens, had always enjoyed the way they smelled… the way they looked… the serenity that surrounded them. he always enjoyed a good walk through them. he was cleaned up…somewhat. the elves had managed to get him into a bath, albeit against his will. but it was done now, and aranuir’s hair fell down in soft curls to his jaw.

when he came upon another in the gardens, he ducked his head to hide his small smile.

“funny i should find you here.”

𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 with the nazgul, but rowan was certainly glad to be feeling better and back on her feet. curious as ever, she found herself wandering around the halls, wide blue eyes taking in every detail. when she comes upon ceredic, a smile forms across her features, happy to see a familiar face, and more importantly, a friend. glancing around, she laughs softly, nodding her head. “it really is quite beautiful -- just like in uncle bilbo’s stories. and... certainly quite different from the shire. not that it’s a bad thing!” she replied. “what are you up to, ceredic? do you mind some company?”

   he wasn’t snooping around, of course not ! ceredic was exploring and that was a totally different thing, even if his fingertips were running through something he really shouldn’t touch. probably shouldn’t. i mean, who would put something dangerous in the hall, yes ? it was alright, as long as he wouldn’t get caught ― and of course that was the moment he heard steps. turning around, the hobbit smiled cheerfully, snapping fingers back to his side and trying to keep the nervous twitch inside.       “    so. rivendell ! it’s pretty magnificent, isn’t it ? very… elvish, stylish, yes.     “

history.

rowan is the only child of her parents, drogo and primula baggins. for the majority of her childhood, she grew up in brandy hall in buckland. 

however, when she was 12 years old, her parents drowned in a boating accident on brandywine river, leaving her an orphan.

not long after this, rowan was adopted by her second cousin ( once removed? i think? it’s hard to keep track of this stuff lol ), though she would call him uncle bilbo. she moved to bag end to live with him after this.

because bilbo was raising her, she took after him a lot, growing up with his stories and becoming incredibly curious, longing for the chance to go out and adventure and see the world.

this behavior is, of course, unusual for hobbits -- but most attributed this to her took ancestry and her time spent around bilbo. 

though she always wanted to explore outside the shire, she never strayed far from home. 

she was curious of it all, sure, but not enough to actually leave her friends and family in the shire.

plus, it wasn’t like she was exactly well equipped to go out and do such a thing.

so while this quest has that sense of adventure she’s always longed for, she knows how serious this is, and she knows it’s not going to be some fun adventure. she’s worried about what’s to come, but she tries at the same time to not think too much on it.

she knows this is what she has to do, and she wants very badly to save the fate of everyone in the shire, and, of course middle-earth in general. she struggles with doubting herself but doesn’t want that side of her to show.
