One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.

The thing is, until you get past the mindset of "justice=punishment" you will never be able to create lasting change. We have actual proof that punitive justice creates more crime and makes criminals more violent. We have actual proof that rehabilitation reduces crime and recidivism. But some of y'all are so stuck on this idea that the wrongdoer must be punished for justice to be done that you will choose sating your need for revenge over actually moving toward a better world every time. And that's sad!

Owning the means of production in a big business and extracting surplus value from your workers = The Bourgeoisie, aristocrats, or Capitalists
Owning the means of production in a small entrepeneurship, partaking in labour, and extracting surplus value from your workers = The Petite Bourgeoisie, small business owners.
The only similarity between the two is that they are reactionaries. The shopkeeper, who own his small business, gains nothing from seizing the means of production, he already owns them, and he is his own employer so he will not benefit from socialist protection for workers.
Owning the means of production and producing commodities with no labour force besides yourself = An artisan. Falls under the concept of small entrepeneurship.
An independent artist or freelancer is still exploited, since they sell their labour to a company to produce commodities in exchange for a wage. While an independent artist may own their means of production (a tablet, computer and etc), these companies will still exploit you and extract (fees) surplus value from you. Ergo, Patreon, OF, Substar and other platforms. In a modern context, an artisan is not the same as an independent artist. Don't worry about it, you're not a bougie, lmao
