I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but I’m not sure if this makes any sense so please bare with me here lol.

Do you think some people don’t ship/see Byler because of how “Marvel-esque” the show has become?

Compared to seasons 1 + 2, seasons 3 + 4 of Stranger Things seem a lot more blockbuster-y and high production, sort of like a Marvel film.

Obviously this is because the show and budget has gotten a lot bigger since 2016, but I feel like people don’t see Byler happening because as the series goes on, it feels more like a high-budget Marvel movie than anything; superhero movies aren’t typically known for their gay relationships.

I think Stranger Things has built a reputation for being more of a superhero action packed show to the GA than the original thriller/drama it once was.

It’s definitely not the only reason people don’t see Byler, but it could be one of them.

i deadass dont understand the homophobic/bigoted part of the stranger things fandom.

This show is explicitly for freaks, weirdos, and nerds! It's made for outcasts and people who don't fit in and two of the main characters are gay having to face an environment where they're not inherently accepted.

This isn't even entirely about byler, but i've even seen some fans comment on how *because* will is gay they don't like him.

This is not the show for you!!!

All the main characters have been bullied their entire life, most of them still staying themselves because they dont care what others think. And, as much as i hate the guy, Eddie, who is a fan favorite, literally says that forced conformity is killing the kids.

(was that a run on sentence? i feel like those are too many commas)

"Will is going to die and never find love" "eleven and mike are gonna have a big family together" etc etc are CRAZY points. Nancy doesn't wanna recreate the nuclear family life style, Steve has an incredible rebound from being implied homophobic to having a lesbian best friend, Will Byers is canonically gay and in love with mike, Noah Schnapp is queer, there's so much in this show that says "We're different, and thats okay."

I think the conservatism in this fandom is also why so many characters like Billy and season one Steve are so liked. I never got the Billy love, sure he has depth and complexity and is a well written character, but he's still an abusive racist asshole.

I just dont understand why people who are so bigoted go to stranger things to spread their normalcy, go to some republican show idk man

ok this post is gonna be very ranty but I just need to say it.

I am so SICK of byler doubt I’m sickkkk. people are way too quick to come to conclusions based on the tiniest snippets of information that we don’t even have any clue the context of 😭 forget about the piles and piles of evidence, a melvin scene in the trailer? byler is bones! did y’all not think mike and el were gonna get scenes together or something?? it’s honestly not surprising at all. I know some people are reading the scene as romantic, but remember we just don’t know that! we just have to wait. of course people can have their doubts, but I’m just so tired of all the negativity. can we please just go one business day without the doubt? ONE. it’s the same cycle again and again. circling through all the evidence 80 million times and then something, sometimes even something so minuscule, comes to light and there’s an uproar. and then we constantly feel the need to defend byler. I get it I do but it’s becoming exhausting. like I’m tired I’m so tired. I’ve been confident in byler since season 3, and in six years this confidence has not waned 😭😭 season 4 just made it grow 1000 fold. I know not everyone feels the same, and I’m not here to explain exactly why you shouldn’t have byler doubt cus we do that every damn day. clearly it’s not working for some people and that’s fine if you wanna give up on this ship!! that’s your choice!! I guess I just wish for more positivity in this fandom sometimes, and not having to see the same cycles over and over.
