can't believe I'm giving in and posting about pixar's animation style discourse but I honestly don't think most people's problem is that an animation studio is branching out into different styles but that the style they have branched out into (that they've been weirdly loyal to for the past five-something years) is so reminiscent of the animation styles of largely hated studios like illumination or sony. for the longest time pixar had a very distinct, more grounded/realistic design style that still had a sense of whimsy to it so I just think people don't like seeing them assimilated into the widely hated playdoh-looking bean mouth style that's become synonymous with low-quality animation in recent times
