as a mystery writer, there's this old tumblr post that lives rent free in my brain. I don't remember it exactly, but I think OP was (or knew someone who was) a 911 dispatcher and was talking about how humans have NO sense of urgency in recounting stories

when asked "what's the emergency?" they'll always start ten steps back to tell the whole story, to the point where OP had to ask, "no, what's the emergency RIGHT NOW?"

I think it's such a fun thing to keep in mind when writing. every time my little consulting detective questions clients, witnesses, even suspects, they're going to ramble up and down and start at the wrong place and circle around their points. and this works for any genre! we all suck at Getting To The Point, especially in times of crisis, and that's SUCH a neat way to instantly ground a character and make them feel more real

Wildest thing to me about the online safety act is that parental controls already exist on every device. Like my mp3 player has a parental controls option. Like why should i have to give up my privacy and risk my data being leaked because some people cant be bothered to check that their kids are safe online
