Matt's EAPS Impromptu Discord Q&A!

In the wee hours of the night the EAPS finale released, Matt/EmperorValentine rolled up into the TSBS Discord EAPS thread and offered to answer questions. Here are the answers! Typed rather than screenshots because I got stopped by Tumblr image limit.

Remember: Matt's word is only canon for his characters (Foxy and pre-death Puppet). Otherwise, his interpretation of how the story would have gone if he'd stayed on the show longer/hadn't written in Puppet's death/events that were elaborated on further is just as much a headcanon/AU as anything we come up with! He also hasn't watched EAPS since he left, so his comments may contradict what's been said since. If Davis or Flora elaborated on a plot point or character in a different way that Matt originally intended, the published version is canon.

The Q&A is under the cut! But to summarize:

How did EAPS Jake get in the Stitchwraith suit in the junkyard?

[Matt] Oh if it wasn't established it's pretty much canonical. Stitchwraith was canonical in this universe but modified to fit our needs. I wanted to be close to the books and do an arc with that, Jake had cancer and died and all that entails for his story in the stitchwraith stingers. I never read them but did pretty extensive research (I also asked Ken a few questions unbeknownst to them)

[?] Huh! Okay. So he did just kinda get in the doll and walk away to the junkyard.

[Matt] but yes, sometimes there isn't a crazy explanation for everything. yeah idk what Davis said in the months since but we just had him die from the cancer and attach to the body. If there's more to it, ask him lol. where the body came from, I have absolutely no clue, maybe it was just an exo with a power source somewhere in the plex, who knows? Jake died that day after the tour

[insert Ken being sappy about Andrew getting a happy ending but having unresolved issues]

[Matt] Andrew would have had a MUCH longer arc, Jake too if I wasn't out on the 31st, I would have liked to explore him actually going through proper redemption arc, Eclipse was a natural fit and Davis picked up on that for sure, I'm happy where it went which seems to be Eclipse more or less being dad to everyone but Foxy would have had a larger role with Puppet for sure if we kept going. There is no shot that continues to go on with what Stitchwraith did to Foxy without a "come to god" moment between them. and with FC being that age it would have had to have layers

What was YOUR original plan for Vincent / Mimic's story arc?

[Matt] Original plan? Well the model got privated so I kinda LOST THAT and hoped no one would notice….. BUT, the setup if some of you caught on was that mimic could "change" the past.

[?] OMIGOSH BRO WERE YOU GUNNA GO FOR TIME TRAVEL MIMIC??

[Matt] yes. That was always the plan for mimic before I left. I think it changed becasuse honestly… no that's hard. I ran with the puppet theme being "stolen" and was like "what if I just do this." Mimic was going to have a HUGE part once SOTM came out - Davis and I planned to establish them early so we could just pull a "we have the mimic" card. but Vincent was going to be implicated in a LOT of problems but in reality he would have been innocent, like straight up he didn't kill anyone. [Matt] Hang on lemme paint you a picture. We found Vincent in the suit, spouting complete gibberish, my running working theory was that we already changed the past by that point, vincent was never supposed to kill anyone, he was just found in the suit, it was all the mimic, the mimic killed everyone in that suit and made them think it was vincent. Idk what the new lore is but that was what I ran with for him. It was never fleshed out by me before I left but my chocie would have been that vincent was 100% innocent, nothing concrete on full story. But yeah, that's the vincent beat that I was gonna finish off with the mimic arc, we pivoted to my departure instead.

What was the original plan for Roxanne?

[Matt] Roxy was supposed to be the Foxy of this dimension, and just be jealous of Foxy's role because she got replaced. the OG gang had Roxanne the Pirate instead of Foxy.

[?] Kinda like Foxy was about RWGS Roxanne for a time

[Matt] exactly. it was a role reversal for Foxy/Roxanne but that is obvoiusly non canon

What was the plan for Puppetmaster's crew (his Bonnie, Freddy, etc.)?

[Matt] We only just really established them, Freddy was clearly expendable, Bonnie was a possible stayer, (ruin) eclipse was meant to be a somewhat antithesis to other celestial lads, and I think that's it?

Would Sammy like anime?

[Matt] Sammy likes the idea of him not dying in the womb if I'm honest, I don't think he ever got to establish a like for anything besides liking to hate puppet/charlie. if he had to like something I'd pick something like an Abridged Series or Ghost Stories Dub because he's just unhinged

Did you ever have a name for Puppet's powers?

[Matt] LOL..no. we kinda did just say strings at some point. equated everything to strings. string theory (physics nerds get it )

Is there anything you would have done with the Stitchlets?

[Matt] i answered higher up but I wanted FC and them to have more of a connection, I think Davis took to them rather quickly so idk, but my choice would have been a "we like Ms. Puppet, Eclipse, and Foxy, they treat us well" style situation. I did want Eclipse to keep them after a bit though, I think it fit well. [proceeds to plug @kouwelm's Andrew design as one he wanted to do] Nah Stitchlets would have been given bodies for sure, just like they did get it seems

[Matt] surprise we actually sit here and listen to what you say and then go "haha that'd be cool" and then do it unironically. Sometimes that does backfire though, lmao

What was the plan with Charlie if Puppet hadn't had to die? / TreasureBox Kid

[Matt] I forget what our plan for Charlie was. I think at some point we were just going to have Puppet adopt her.

[?] Puppet DID say in the final GOL 2 episode she wanted another kid...

[Matt] that's just me voicing that I wanted more models and 100% would have dropped the joke of Puppet looking at foxy and going "let's make a baby" and foxy is like 'HUH, WHAT H-HBHAKADJFS" …and then she's like "WE HAVE ALL THE BLUEPRINTS ECLIPSE CAN HELP COME ON" Because what do animatronics/beings of immense power do when they want to make life? They just be like "BAM new life, welcome to the world small demi god"

[?] would the kid be called PC. /j

[Matt] remove the /j. this isn't a joke. yes it was going to be PC. ... this was in the stages of "dear god let this family have things so I can raise the stakes"

What happened to Henry in your version of Charlie's kidnapping?

[Matt] I think it was canonically that he thought Puppet took her for him and he was just a complete idiot, quite frankly that was rushed

Did Foxy and Puppet get married offscreen after all?

[?] DID FOXY PROPOSE WITH THR BREAD TIE

[Matt] I think he did because I know someone who's done that, and I also think rings aren't important it's the message, he probably did get her a ring at some point. I think all I couldn't show on screen was that they were closer than anyone really realized. Even if everyone knew they were a thing it's still weird to be lovey dovey to yourself.

Foxy Mourning

[Matt] Foxy 100% is never recovering. like that's a fact that was his world. FC is there so it helps but like, he wasn't supposed to outlive the immortal being. Foxy 100% knows it's what she wanted, he knows she's in [Charlie] somewhere, he's mad that through all of it; how the pizzaplex cast treated her in those final weeks (poorly), and wonders what if they didn't do all that, what if things were just a tiny bit different, maybe they wouldn't be made to resort to what they had to do, and he hates that he had to be the one to literally end her life so everyone else could live.

[Matt] He was, at the end of the day, just a guy really in all this, compared to everyone else. also he 100% has blame for not calling out and messing up that little rebellion the moment it happened. He should have caught on to it sooner, it was probably his effort in "fitting in, not standing out" that made it too late

[Matt] It is my own little headcanon that there is a version out there who knows what he's going through and can relate in some way. even if so I can give foxy a SINGULAR win.

[?] So there’s a widowed Puppet and widower Foxy and they’re both heartbroken but in compatible ways

[Matt] Would be my choice, but it's not lol. Yeah Foxy shuts down 100 years later because robots also die and Puppet 2 Electric Boogaloo gets fresh depression. and she's stuck with this now fully grown star powered fox child

Does Foxy resent Charlie?

[Matt] Resent is a good word, I wouldn't say it's the right one. I think he's INCREDIBLY angry. at the situation, not her.

Matt Writes Fanfic for His Own Show

[Matt] Ok hear me out, you all know how Foxy is like, super good at reading people and stuff, right?

He KNEW Puppet didn't want a relationship, she's OLD (don't tell her I said that)

He KNEW she didn't want to.

But they were good friends, and then he messed up and got too close, and then noticed that she let those walls down, and was like "she's okay with me staying here for a SPECK of time with her, like this. Despite it all, despite losing everyone to time and knowing if she let them in she'd lose them too, she's okay with this. And it was love. And it was great. And they didn't need to show the world everything, they could just exist, together, for however long that might be. And he'd be gone one day, and she'd outlive him. And FC would be sad, but he'd have Puppet. He might one day have his own creations, and they'd know Puppet, and she'd outlive them. But he wanted to make sure that no matter what, she didn't regret this, for even a second. That this speck of time would STAY with her.

And he knew this. Because it's Foxy. Of course he knows it. She didn't date anyone WHY? Because she'd outlast them all.

He was supposed to be that gravestone she sat next to. Not her. He WAS NOT supposed to be in this situation.

He wanted to be her rock, her gravestone, her memory, her period of time that she remembers most fondly.

He knows it's not what she initially wanted but she GAVE that to him, to FC, to whoever else.

You can't show that on a daily episodic vrchat rp channel, but that was always the intention. That is the tragedy of immortality and loving those who aren't, and exactly the reason I would never wish for immortality because there wouldn't be anyone to share it with.

Puppet and Ruin's Immortality

Would it be accurate to say that Puppet represents the powers of life, while Sammy represents the powers of death?

[Matt] Puppet isn't life so no probably not. in fact she didn't really create all that much, sammy created more than she did if you really think about it.

Did you ever consider what was different about Puppets backstory that led to her and her dad being alive by the Pizzaplex era?

[Matt] is this in regards to the fire?

[?] Is it?

[Matt] Puppet was "canonical." She just…pulled strings… in the background.

What were the plans for Fran, Frank and Francis' sister?

[Matt] fran was pure neutrality. frank negative, francis positive. she's just a being of pure…..ok.

[?] Apathy maybe?

[Matt] no, literally just neutral lol. kinda apathetic yes but literally doesn't take sides, nothing. just….neutral. ken showed y'all that one model but I had nothing yet. but imagine she just is the most monotone person ever, and only looks happy on the outside

What were your plans for EAPS Henry?

[Matt] Last I gave it any thought, Henry was imo a perfect opportunity to have Puppet lower her guard and get backstabbed. if anything I wanted Henry to be more evil than Afton ever was. Michael was legit going to be a good guy. Fazbear as a whole was shitty because of henry imo. that's not canon, OBVIOUSLY. Maybe it is idk I'm not gonna sit here and step on Davis' toes. all I'm saying is Henry was a piece of work from the start, and I think flipping the script was half the fun. the real answer is somewhere between my idea and what happened because davis and I split the work.

Why move dimensions?

[Matt] our intention for eaps was a fresh slate entirely. Which worked great! I was also VERY sick of the "power creep." Foxy had literally NO role in the world. people want their character to be shiny and great and it's like, "bro we're animatronics in fnaf. relax or I have to make shiny stuff so I can actually keep up in any appreciable way". I gave puppet something JUST SO I COULD DO STUFF, and then I also was like "haha use the powers and DIE"

(Misc comments)

"We for a long time had a character drought but by the end of my tenure we had the opposite problem in a weird way, where so many didn't get enough limelight"

"Also to clear up some stuff I saw a LONG while ago, Captain Foxy and our OG Foxy never merged, they swapped places and did the only thing Foxy's can do well, act and read people well"

"it is weird to think I dated myself more successfully than literally the entire rest of the TSBS cast"

"I always wanted to do a 50 years later AU like the simpsons did. I would have had to pair people up and get models for it tho. we did that 10 years later anniversary SOTW thing when i was here.... "Man none of this worked out at all." not a single one of you drew puppet as dead and that disappoints me, it shows you never knew me. NOT EVEN FOXY DIED"
