The 7th KAC announced...with no MUSECA or REFLEC BEAT?!
The 7th KONAMI Arcade Championships (KAC) was just announced on this week’s BEnama Live Stream, to everyone’s surprise:
Tumblr media
While the omission of MUSECA was _somewhat_ expected, REFLEC BEAT is also not listed.
The official KAC Twitter followed up with this tweet, further confirming that this is not a mistake:
アーケードゲームプレーヤーの頂点を決めるKONAMI公式大会「The 7th KONAMI Arcade Championship」が開催決定! 今年も熱い戦いが繰り広げられる!!#7thKAC #BE生 pic.twitter.com/JzT4LTOsH1
— KONAMI KACスタッフ (@konami_kac) October 18, 2017
Nostalgia, of course, is in the line-up for this year after killing the short-lived BeatStream series.
To see two series disappear from this event is quite a shock, regardless of how much you like or don’t like either game.
Now, the speculation begins. Will these games actually die? REFLEC BEAT’s touchscreen cabinet could be easily repurposed into another new game, should Konami decide to go that route. But MUSECA might be a bit of a challenge.

Harmonix Wants Your Best Rock Band Story for Their 10-Year Celebration Diary of Rock Band
As a franchise that has seen over 10 million players over the years, who have collectively earned more stars than there are in the milky way, Harmonix knows there are some great tales to be told, and as part of the 10-year celebration of Rock Band.
Whether you’ve been with Rock Band since the beginning or joined us with Rock Band 4, we know everyone has a Rock Band story worth sharing. Some are heartfelt, some are hilarious.
Met your now-significant other at a Rock Band party, and now you’re happily married with two kids and a dog that chewed up your guitar headstock? They want to hear about it. How about Rock Band teaching you the basics of drumming, which encouraged you to buy a full kit, which in turn led you to be the kickass drummer for a real band? They want to hear about that, too. What about that time you broke a lamp in the hotel that you brought Rock Band because you didn’t want to be without it over PAX weekend, and you told the front desk it was broken when you checked in? Yeah, that’s up our alley too.
It doesn’t matter if your story happened ten years ago or last week. Whether your instruments have been in the closet for a while or you still rock out every week: if it was important to you and it involved Rock Band, we want to hear about it. Send Harmonix videos, pictures, audio recordings, or huge walls of text about what Rock Band means to you, and they’ll feature some of our favorites over the coming months.
Email Harmonix below with your Rock Band story! They’ll be picking a few from each category to create some highlights that they’ll be sharing with the whole community as Harmonix fills out their diary over the next few months

Gal Metal Releases on Nintendo Switch in February 2018 from DMM Games [TGS 2017]
Yesterday for day 1 of business day at Tokyo Game Show 2017, the DMM GAMES booth showed off their new work properly titled “Gal Metal!” A stage event was held where DMM GAMES showed off their first rhythm game on Nintendo Switch and it has since received a good amount of praise.
The game features the band name is K.M.G (Kichijoji Metal Girls), and gameplay consists of a rhythmic drum performance and an adventure section where a story develops. In the rhythm section, players can play the drums by shaking the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-con according to the music. The right Joy-Con is set to a bass drum, the left is a snare drum, and when you shake it simultaneously, the cymbal sounds.
Various rhythm patterns are prepared, and scores are added by playing them in combination. No score is displayed on the screen, and the player plays their favorite rhythm pattern according to music with their own ear. In other words, you can combine your favorite rhythm at any time and play it.
However, in order to achieve a high score, it is necessary to generate not only the accuracy of the rhythm but also the combo by a combination of rhythms, and finding a combination of rhythm patterns that are good at yourself and rhythm patterns that can aim for high scores.
The game releases in February 2018 for Nintendo Switch and will be coming both physically and digitally.

NOISZ Now Available on Steam Early Access with 8 Playable Tracks
NOISZ, the new rhythm-based Shooter (SHMUP) is now available for Steam Early Access. This gives customers who have already purchased the game before it’s initial release an insight on what to expect, and NOISZ certainly crams a good amount in this Early Access build.
The core gameplay is comprised of two elements: avoiding enemy fire, and attacking the enemy. However, both of those require following along with the beat of the music. The enemy’s various attacks are also “charted” to the song, which means you’ll have to look out for surprises in songs you are unfamiliar with!
During a song, you’ll have two actions you can perform – attacking, and bringing up your shield. However, you can only choose ONE action per beat. Higher BPM? More chances to perform the actions. Slower BPM? Be careful and choose wisely.
Here’s the initial songlist:
Mitomoro / N – Tutorial
Dextre / Song of the Wolf – E1 / N3 / H5
Astra / Need It – E2 / N3 / H5
Televisor ft. Danyka Nadeau / Odyssey (Highway Superstar Remix) – E1 / N3 / H5
Allorium / Robot Rhinos – E2 / N6 / H8
/DJS\ / Destroy – E3 / N6 / H8
M-Project / Hardcore Maniac – E3 / N5 / H8.5
fractilx vs アイスベア / NIGHTWING STIMUL8R ’17 – E4 / N6 / H9
MonstDeath / Blood – E4 / N7 / H9
As the Steam page says, final version of the game will launch Q1 of 2018, so Early Access will run for about half a year. The game is fully playable in Arcade Mode (keyboard or controller) and Dance Pad Mode as well! Want to contribute? Early Access players will help shape and form the final game where discussion can be laid down in a private Discord channel with other players and the development team.
