Had a dream there was a new six hour long HBomberGuy video that starts with him tryingnto debunk Daniel Molloys novel "Interview With The Vampire" as a fun short video. After thirty minutes in and pulling a "so obviously vampires arent real" thing he launches into a three hour tangent bringing up all the weird historical details that are completely accurate when you accounted for stuff like Louis saying the wrong cemetary or church name

Four hours in he breaks down and says "okay so, this would all point to actual pop rock artist Lestat De Lioncourt being a real vampire, and Kate pointed out he was playing in my town a couple weeks from when we were covering all this. So I called and asked him for an interview to see if I couldnt get a better feel for what was going on"

He then proceeded to take out colored contact lenses and remove the gloves hed been wearing the whole video to reveal he was a vampire and the title card just popped up saying "GUESS WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED" and I woke up before the next two hours of video could play

if you make it to "she squeezed my lemon" without losing your mind I will be very impressed

thinking about led zeppelin again and how, despite all of the blatant plagiarism early in their career, the furthest an actual suit about this got was an obviously frivolous one. "stairway to heaven" and "taurus" (by spirit) are so clearly not the same song. like, go actually listen to them back to back. the only remote similarity is in the intro, and like, it's not that similar. it's not the same melody, it's not the same chords, it's not even the same progression. spirit were literally trying to claim ownership of doing arpeggios on a 12-string guitar.

Love the contrast between the Americans’ “Apollo” and the Soviets’ “Sputnik.” You got the Americans naming their rocket after a Greek god trying to communicate the grandness and importance of this rocket. I’ve been absolutely entranced by your use of Holly Holy in MM. No joke, I’ve been listening to the song on repeat and keep seeing the shots of people standing in the pews in my head. I learned the chord progressions so I could see how the modulations worked to keep raising the tension, and how the structure of the song supports the structure of the montage.

I know you’re always coming at projects from the perspective of the edit, so I gotta know: how much of the Holly Holy montage was baked into the script? Because it’s absolutely perfect and I feel like it was designed incredibly purposefully

"Holly Holy" was baked into Midnight Mass almost from the start. I started listening to the song on repeat and imagining the montage sometime back in 2015, and even before we had major plot points figured out for the show, or ever had a studio or a writers room, I had the "Holly Holy" sequence. As far as the script goes, I'd say it was very, very specific about how the song had to be used. Enjoy!

On some level, kind of, almost. But their job is to kill people. They kill innocent people every day. They abuse their own members, especially their members who aren't white cis het middle class Christian men. The US exists through perpetual violence against the global working class, including its own working class. The military is how it carries out a large portion of that violence. You deserve better.
