FINAL
Tumblr media
For my last piece, I created a drawing titled Golden Hour Dive. It depicts a figure diving into the water at the moment the sun is setting. I wanted to illustrate the very instant in the air before they will have touched the water, because it is serene but at the same time energetic. I utilized soft colors for the sky and water, similar to how I have done in previous drawings, to represent light and movement.
This artwork was influenced by two techniques we studied — Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. I enjoyed Impressionism's emphasis on light and freezing a moment, and Post-Impressionism allowed me to include firmer lines and more color. I have employed both techniques in prior projects, so it seemed intuitive to combine them again here. It just seemed like a very "me" piece. This class was really fun. I learned a lot about art and about myself. I wanted to add a THANK YOU FOR TEACHING US note. Have a great day!

My puppet is made from a beer can body with ear cleaners for arms. For the eyes, I stuck on some old, stale Reese’s chips using peanut butter as glue—which actually held up better than I thought. It’s definitely a Frankenstein-style build, but I love how scrappy and weird it looks. I had “Oun of Wun” by Gunna playing while I filmed it dancing, and honestly, it just worked—the vibe matched the puppet’s energy perfectly. I don’t know what to call him yet, but he gives off strong “doesn’t care what you think” energy. Just here to vibe and throw down some slick moves.

Surrealism
For this assignment, I took inspiration from my friend’s clever invention — a chips bag wallet. At first glance, it looks like a regular, crinkly bag of snacks you’d find at the bottom of a backpack or car seat. But inside? A fully functional wallet. It has slots for cards, folded bills, and even a zipper pouch for coins.
This idea feels very in line with Nicole McLaughlin’s upcycled fashion vibe and Meret Oppenheim’s surrealist approach — turning the everyday into something unexpected and playful. The brilliance of it is that it blends disguise with function: nobody would think to steal a bag of half-eaten chips, but a shiny leather wallet? Definitely.
It’s quirky, useful, and a little absurd — exactly the kind of surreal fashion statement that plays with perception and challenges traditional ideas of what fashion is "supposed" to look like. It also sends a message about sustainability, reusing trash in a creative way that makes people laugh and think.
If fashion is supposed to surprise and make you feel something, this definitely does that.

I enjoyed doing this assignment. I liked how we could just sit down and draw whatever for 30 minutes.

this post is way cool
For this Cubism assignment, I decided to sit down & draw different shapes with each color marker. With circles, squares, triangles, zig zags, and some random shapes I made my background. I then cut out some lace pieces from a magazine and centered them with some circles I drew to make an abstract type face.

VINCE
This drawing is of my friend Vince, and it really captures his vibe. Vince is someone who’s super chill yet has this fun, quirky energy about him. He’s a bit introspective but also loves diving into new experiences. Right now, he’s in his first year of knocking doors and learning sales, so the colors here are kind of symbolic of what he’s going through.
The green represents how Vince feels in his first year of sales—it’s his learning phase. He’s feeling "green" with all the new experiences, learning the ropes, figuring out the system, and working through the challenges. But there’s also a lot of red mixed in, which shows the frustration he feels with all the "no’s" he’s getting. Sales can be tough, and that red energy reflects those moments of feeling a bit worn down, but it’s part of the hustle, right?
The background is more neutral—kind of earthy and down to earth, much like Vince himself. He’s someone who stays grounded despite all the highs and lows of his first year in the game. The muted tones give off this calm aura, showing how he can take a step back, breathe, and just roll with it, knowing things will get better as he gets more experienced.
Overall, the colors really capture Vince’s energetic aura: the mix of learning, frustration, and grounding as he works through the ups and downs of his sales journey. It’s a real snapshot of his personality and where he’s at in this stage of life.

There’s this one moment that really sticks with me, and it’s the picture of me jumping off the diving board. It’s like one of those split-second adrenaline shots that you just want to capture forever. So, I’m standing on the edge, looking down at the water below, feeling this weird mix of nervousness and excitement. You know, that feeling where everything seems to slow down for a second? That’s when you can really feel the whole moment—the wind in your hair, the pressure in your legs as you push off, and the way your heart races as your body is flying in mid-air.
And then, boom, you're in the air, and that’s when it hits me: the world is moving, but I’m suspended in this weird blur. You can almost feel the energy in the motion, the way the air is pressing against you, and the water is so close, it feels like you can almost touch it before you even dive in. The whole thing is alive with movement, and that’s exactly what Impressionism is all about: catching the fleeting moment. It’s not about perfect details, but the energy—the splash, the movement, the light dancing on the water as you fall. It’s like the world keeps spinning, and you're just part of it for a second, frozen in time but full of life.
In an Impressionist sketch, it’s not about clean lines or perfect forms, it’s about capturing that raw, vibrant moment—just like how I felt in mid-air, right before hitting the water. The colors would be all loose and free, with a quick brushstroke to show how I felt more than exactly how I looked. You get what I mean? The moment’s the thing—not how still it is, but how fast it moves.

For the RIDD Gala 2024, I chose this moment because it represents not just a professional achievement but also the personal connections that come with working in such an intense, hands-on environment like door-to-door sales. It’s a tough job—you're out there on your own, facing rejection, and pushing yourself day in and day out. So, when we finally get to gather at the Gala, there’s a sense of relief and joy in seeing the people who went through that grind with you. The event is a chance to reconnect with colleagues you’ve only seen in passing throughout the year and celebrate not only the sales but the hustle that went into it. The awards given out at the Gala feel like a personal recognition of not just the work but the sacrifices we’ve made to get there. I love seeing my friends win because it’s a reminder of how far we’ve come together, despite the tough days out in the field.
This image resonates with me because it highlights the bond between teammates in a high-pressure, results-driven environment. Door-to-door sales is not for everyone—it requires resilience, a positive mindset, and the ability to push through adversity. Seeing the people I’ve shared this journey with get recognized is a reminder that it’s not just about hitting a quota; it’s about being part of a community that understands the challenges and celebrates each other’s successes. The image reveals a sense of camaraderie and the deep connections that form when people are working toward a common goal, even in such a solo-driven job like door-to-door sales.
When it comes to photo editing in today’s culture, I think it has even more impact in environments like ours, where personal branding is important. Sales often depend on how you present yourself, and with social media playing such a huge role in that, there’s a lot of pressure to look "perfect." With door-to-door sales, you meet people face-to-face, so there’s a real contrast between the digital world, where everything is polished, and the real world where imperfections show. It’s interesting to see how photo editing plays into this, creating unrealistic beauty standards that can mess with how people feel about themselves. With AI and photo manipulation getting more advanced, we’re definitely going to see more of it. But there’s also a movement toward more "authentic" content, where influencers and people in general are starting to show their real selves more. Personally, I think it’s great that people are starting to embrace being "real" and showing both the good and bad. Lately, I’ve noticed trends where people are editing their photos to look effortless—kind of like the "no-makeup" makeup look but using filters to make everything look even more perfect. It's almost like trying to blend the natural with the perfected, and I’m curious to see where it goes from here.

Aesthetic and Conceptual Connection: The two artworks I chose share a connection rooted in nature and its relationship to humanity and storytelling. The first piece incorporates wild animals and an outdoor background, symbolizing a return to the natural world and a connection to untamed elements. The second piece mixes natural patterns with a whimsical, human-like koala figure, creating a storybook-like fusion of nature and personality.
The aesthetic link between these two pieces lies in their earthy tones and textures, which ground the works in the environment. The conceptual connection revolves around the narrative of coexistence—whether through the animals reclaiming their space in the human world or the koala adopting human characteristics to bridge that gap.
My Inspired Piece: Using these themes, I created an artwork that builds on the fusion of natural and human worlds. I took the idea of animals as central figures from the first piece and paired it with the storybook vibe of the second. My work features a central character inspired by a fox, decked out in a patterned outfit (nod to the koala’s fit), with a background blending urban architecture and forest landscapes. This highlights the tension and harmony between nature and human development.

I will be taking inspiration from this. Your koala design is whimsical and inspiring! The mix of patterns and character vibes is pure storytelling genius.

For assignment 2 I used yellow and purple as my complimentary color pair. To make the background I just drew yellow lines at random as I listened to music I was listening to and filled in the blanks in between with purple. There wasn’t much rhyme or reason to it but it was fun to make. For my outfit I went with the theme of using cutouts from forest pictures to build the base along with a few pieces of fabric and feathers to add some highlights. I think a lot of this idea came from the fact that I miss seeing green trees forests amidst one of the roughest winters in a while. Spring cannot come any sooner. I added the koala because I thought it was cute and also it was the perfect size for the outfit I made. I gave the outfit hiking boots and drew in mittens because I felt those fit in with the outdoorsy part of the outfit.

I will be taking inspiration from this. I Love how your use of animals brings so much depth to the message of nature reclaiming its space.

The album is called “Abbey Road”. The inspiration that I took from this album is the road running through the middle with four people walking on a crosswalk. I made this artwork my own but adding different animals and having the road running through nature. My favorite song from this Beatles album is Come Together.

For my background, I chose the complementary color combination orange and blue. For the head I just used something random, I found in a magazine. For my upper body I used scrubs worn by a nurse. I decided to go with shorts and Luka Doncic's basktball shoes. To complete my outfit I finished it off with a cape.

Alright, so I went crazy with this one. I took Venom’s symbiote vibes and mashed ‘em up with those fire King in Black pants, straight-up looking like something out of a high-fashion nightmare. Then, I threw in a wild villain head just to make it extra unhinged. But I didn’t stop there—Ironman came through, and I hit him with Venom’s pants too. Bro, it turned out insane, like futuristic-meets-chaotic drippy.
For the background, I used an orange and blue complementary color scheme. They’re opposite on the color wheel, so they make each other pop HARD. It gives that contrast that makes the whole fit and concept stand out.
