Turned the rooftop lounge @skyloftoc into the @spoolerinc office yesterday and another awesome meeting with @taylerey. There is tons of data and scientific research that support the connection between work environment and job satisfaction (which is one of the reasons why I'm so big on work environment). At Spooler we're actually changing the underlying ideology of what working is and means. In fact, 9 out of 10 millennials consider work place culture/environment the most important consideration in joining a team. People want to work for companies that inspire them to do great things, and provide personal and professional development. What does a CEO look like in 2021? The traditional idea or framework for the role is a person who works 80 hour work weeks, has a list of advanced degrees and spends the majority of their time compiling data reports to please shareholders. Meanwhile, lower level employees enjoy work life balance and mock at the idea of leadership because of what they believe it entails. In sharp contrast, I argue that the profile of today's CEO is much different. Today's start-ups are lead by courageous women from diverse backgrounds, and young serial entrepreneurs with body tattoos. They're artists, entrepreneurs, engineers and scientists and absolutely love what they do. Building great products that can change the world is enjoyment and adventure all rolled into one. The key ingredient is passion, field experience, leadership, and the innate ability to capture opportunity - which does not always come easy. The exact skillset is hard to quantify but many opportunities are so unique that you only get one try. However, we always somehow find a way to make it work. This pic @suzybythesea was from several years back when I launched my first fashion retail entity, and lead a pretty large team on the ground. My teammates at that time can vouch for the fact that I proudly used to wear a shirt and tie to the office literally on most days of the week. The truth is, I had some business experience but was still in the process of learning and attaining success in fashion retail, and had a long way to go. I find it ironic because today I have much more accomplished in life, I'm financially established, and have traction in the field, but you will rarely see me show up to work in anything more formal than a polo shirt. The moral of the story is that the higher you reach the less and less effort it actually requires to impress people. It's okay to still be in the process of obtaining your goals; rushing the process will just leave gaps in your narrative.
